Your name seems a bit off. The term "Virgin Islands" were never in common use in Danish for the islands. The common term was "Danish West Indies" or just "The West Indies". Also the term "St. Croix and the Virgin Islands" makes no sense. St. Croix is just as much a part of the Virgin Islands as St. Thomas and St. John.
Furthermore there is no direct Danish translation for the British concept of a dominion. Before Grenland and the Faroe Islands gained autonomy they were legally organised as counties of Denmark and had official names as such. A "County of the West Indies" ("Vestindiens Amt" in Danish) would be a likely predecessor to a Virgin Islands autonomy within Denmark.
After the Faroe Islands and Greenland gained autonomy they have not used any official name other than "The Faroe Islands" and "Greenland". The 1948 law on Faroese home rule names the Faroe Islands as a "self-governing community" (selvstyrende folkefællesskab) and the 1978 law of Greenlandic home rule names Greenland as a "special community" (særligt folkefællesskab). The revised 2009 law on Greenlandic home rule makes no attempt to put a label on the nature of the relationship.

So in my opinion more suitable names for an autonomous Danish West Indies would be:
"The Self-governing Comunity of the West Indies" - "Det selvstyrende Vestindiske Folkefællesskab"
"The Self-governing community of St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John" - "Det Selvstyrende Folkefællesskab Skt. Croix, Skt. Thomas og Skt. Jan"
or most likely just:
"St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John" - "Skt. Croix, Skt. Thomas og Skt. Jan"
