Description Meaningless fluff to distract me from real life... Celia as some kind of angel. Don't know why I drew it, but I did. Actually, I do know why I drew it - it was going to be one of those flower portrait pics but I couldn't face doing another frame. This is a little bit of a strange guise as Celia's not a very angelic character at all. Sure, she has her good qualities, namely that she's a strong person who takes no nonsence and gives as good as she gets, but they're not qualities that angels traditionally have. And angels definitely aren't severly sarcastic with a sometimes dirty sense of humour and a hot temper.

I wish I could have made her dress a more inventive colour than purple... it's so easy to dress her in purple to match her eyes and I do it too much. But I didn't want the dress to be white or pink... Sparkly brushes and hearts by ~redheadstock

you haven't met my angels yet

I like the colour, its beautifull
your wings need a bit of practise, but the dress and the folds are very pretty!
I do need to say that I'm growing more and more sad with seeing brushes to do bg and side stuff... its fine to use brushes, but its a compleetly different style, I personnaly think its better to do your own side things.

btw... is it worse and worse, or wors and wors...

It's worse rather than wors.

I was trying out little more formed (less feathery) wings here as I totally fail at big wings and there wasn't enough space on the paper anyway.

You're right about the brushes, really... On one hand they are made to be used (and I have my favourites) and I have no idea how to make them myself and would probably make them far worse anyway. On the other hand, it is better to make your own brushes and less lazy. Sadly I don't have the inclination to make them myself right now - guess I'm lazy there. But I do take the point and you are right. ^^

wings can be made les feathery, its more a shape thing though

and rather then makeing your own brushes you could also do with basic stroke brushes and make what ever shape you want with those

Ehh, I still think I'd fail at starting with the basic brushes - and an a more cynical note, the brushes people make are way better than anything I could do.

maybe, but being better does not mean a better reult
I like a result way better when it shows the artists own hand, instead of brushed by other artsists hands...
that way it looks more like a whole.

Oh, fair point, fair point. I think all artists tend to have their lazy points - like, some artists always drawing very easy poses, or never drawing backgrounds, or only drawing one gender, or some people never colour. For the near future, at least, I think brushes will have to be my laziness unless I suddenly get into PS in a big way, which I haven't yet.

brushes are a bit of lazyniss in general, at least thats what I think
though they can be very usefull for stuff you can impossably pull of with brushes allready in use...
I guess its up to you though, because I know it can also work out fine

Oh, they're on the lazy side, PS brushes. They look better with some art than others. Like, I don't know that your art would benefit from the brushes, because you tend to digitise pencil work that's already complete as a sketch. I think my digi pieces tend to be a bit more cartoony and less literal... I dunno. When I think brushes are really cheap is when you use them to create a background that's not a "pretty shapes background". I've seen brushes that include buildings and stuff - I think they are really lazy^^

true!
ah well, this picture is the first one where I'm really a bit anoyed by the brushes, so I guess they do work for you

Well, as long as I don't do many more digi pieces with brushes that annoy you when I will be doing well.

very fluffy indeed but I like it that way.
and I'm in love with the pose and the folds in her dress and the dress in general and the poofy cloud and the dress and the folds and the fabric and the fold in the fabric and - wait a sec, I'm repeating myself.

*pats* I enjoyed the folds myself - for once, I enjoyed drawing folds!

Heehee. Celia's no angel. But that makes the picture ironic. ^^

Larissa-Bright In reply to Littleselkie [2008-11-09 18:36:31 +0000 UTC]

Actually, Celia's far more likely to be a harpy or something if we're talking mythical creatures.

I know! Most people will not understand the irony, but it is there to those who know!

I like it! correction: I love it!

I have this thing with angels...^^

Violet is a nice color to use! And yes, violet eyes really are possible: Tamora Pierce said that the reason she had Alanna with violet eyes was that once she saw a girl at camp with violet eyes come up out of the water and startle her: and it stayed with her the rest of her life.

I love the wings, they're so cute!

You are so right! I had forgotten Tamora Pierce and the girl in the swimming pool! Well, I feel better about that now. And yeah, I went for little cute wings as I fail at drawing proper big angel wings.

I knew you'd remember as soon as I reminded you.
I do too. T.T but hey, that's what practice is for, right?
Really really nice!

I really think the colour suits her :3 and even though you call it "fluff" it's really great :3 I like the pose and the folds of her dress but sometimes you just have to draw fluff just for the fun of it
I like it

Larissa-Bright In reply to Chenria [2008-11-08 19:01:03 +0000 UTC]

Oh fluff can't be quite okay sometimes - it's a good thing to draw when you're feeling miserable. And I do like the purple on the character, though next time I must really avoid it as I ALWAYS dress her in purple.

Ardanae [2008-11-08 13:52:51 +0000 UTC]

I think the dress looks nice in purple. It matches the whole tone of the colour palette. I also really like her pose. Nicely done

Thank you! I do like the purple too, TBH - just I always seem to dress this character in purple, so I guess I wanted something different.

I don't mind the violet dress. I think it looks lovely especially the folds and the shade of it (got to warn you though that's probably me being biased I am drawn to everything of violet shades & everything on my comp is skinned violet atm ) I like the realistic way you drew her torso and legs - not super unrealistically stick thin waist and legs like many artists do, but more like a real person would look like. Ooh and nice work hiding most of the foot & the toes... I know for a fact that bare feet are a pain to draw! Her elbow seems a tad sharp but the way you drew the position of her hand itself looks great! I also really like the way you drew her nose & lips, and her hair is nice too! Does she have naturally purple eyes?

Larissa-Bright In reply to atlantiluna [2008-11-08 10:03:05 +0000 UTC]

Ahh, I understand being drawn to a certain colour - everything I see coloured a certain shade of pink just mades me hungry because it reminds me of cheap and delicious sweets. You're right about the elbow - I was thinking "gosh, it's so sharp she could kill someone with it!" when I was uploading actually. And yes, Celia's eyes are naturally a very violet shade of blue. I'm sure some boffin will tell me that isn't possible, but I don't care.

it is possible. it's a weaker form of albinism, actually. blue+redurple.

OMG you are clones! Created by scientists! I wondered why Celia had such a weird eye colour - now I know. The scientists that cloned you did it!
