eek. you're getting better too damn quickly. I'm jealous. *pouts*
love the eyes. totally. is it actually, you know, biologically possible for a person to have violet eyes?

Yay! you're back!
I'm not sure if it is biologically possible for violet eyes... I'm suppose I'm just fond of interesting eye colours because I take inspiration from anime. I am glad you like this, though!

yeah... anime eye and hair colours are just WEIRD.
I saw a guy once on the street, he'd dyed his hair white. it really REALLY suited him.

Wow. White hair! As far as anime hair/eyes go, I'll admit to being fond of yellow eyes.

I don't really care. I've always been more on the lookout for cool character traits and less on looks... and as far as that goes, anime boys are spoiling me. *dramatic sigh* simply because the style makes it nearly impossible for ugly chars to appear. so no matter which ones I like, they're always handsome as well.

Anime definitely beautifies people. It's not a great style to use when you're trying to draw someone who isn't beautiful, or flawless, and not make them look ugly.

yeah, and if it gets really bad, the only thing that distinguishes one char from the other is hair and eyes. and that's just boring.

I know - that's why I've tried to break from my anime origins.

I still watch them. but I guess if I wouldn't be able to happily criticize the crap out of them considering plotholes and impossibles and continuity and whatnot, I'd get bored quickly... so I enjoy the good parts and have fun with the bad parts. I love anime.

I agree there! For all the weirdness and occasional frustrating aspects, anime is great.

wow, nice start. THe shoulder looks a bit flat without shadows and highlights.

I guess the shading I've done is too subtle to really be seen... Doubt I'll go back to this pic, though.

You've gotten so much better at photoshop! I like her cheekbones and shiny eyes. Compared to the detail in the face it looks minimally done in colouring her shirt and shoulder and background. The strands of hair are great! Overall it's very nice!

I coloured this during the four weeks my Internet died, so I had a lot of time to try and make it good. To be honest this piece was hell to do and I much prefer the more 'cartoony' way of shading on PS... it took a day or so straight to get the skin done on this.

oopswrongcookie [2007-08-18 12:21:49 +0000 UTC]

Nicely done. However, the fact that the shirt and all isn't shaded, sort of detracts from the overal piece. It makes it look imcomplete. Her hair and eyes are marvelous.

The hair and eyes (and skin) were where the main energy went... There is shading on the top, but I guess it's too subtle to see.

You've done well with the main points. It's good prectice, I suppose.

where is her lipsick and spiked colar?

I wonder whether you should try acrylic paints again. I just have a feeling that they might be more of a pragmatic chpice, especially on large headshot-like pieces.

erm... lipSICK? that's an interesting typo!

Hmm... I'd never really though about trying the acrylic paints again. They were one of my preferred media in art at school and I was reasonably competent with them. I don't get on with watercolour or normal paint so maybe I could try it...

many pros use paints. so there must be something in them.

Good stuff!

How in the world do you do the skin tones without making them so darn blotchy? Thats been giving me a mondo headache lately!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Larissa-Bright In reply to timnomonin [2007-08-15 15:19:57 +0000 UTC]

The skin tones here was a complete pain... to get it looking smooth, I used a combinated of the smudge and blur (very sparingly though) tools and also used a very transparent skin shade over the skin area at the end.

timnomonin In reply to Larissa-Bright [2007-08-16 12:00:47 +0000 UTC]

There is a drawing i have been obsessing on trying to get the skin colors to look like skin instead of stripey plastic. GRRR it's kicking my butt!

Smudge and blur and the extra transparent layer of skin tones...back to the drawing board..err computer. Thank you L-B!

Skin's gonna look like shiney plastic unless you smudge^^

I frickin' love her hair and eyes. How long did this take in PS?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Larissa-Bright In reply to SieTalon [2007-08-13 11:12:33 +0000 UTC]

Glad you appreciate the hair and eyes! They took forever-- though the skin was the biggest pain. I can't say for sure how long this took over PS, but it was a really long time across several days... One eye alone took all morning, and the skin much longer.

SieTalon In reply to Larissa-Bright [2007-08-13 20:40:13 +0000 UTC]

I can imagine the skin would of taken a long time. Jeeeze. It was well woth it at the end though babe~ I can well believe that eye would take a long time. It looks very good.
