Personal Piece. All Painted in PS.The Battle of the Teutoburg Forest, described as the Varian disaster by Roman historians, took place in Teutoburg Forest in 9 CE, when an alliance of Germanic tribes led by Arminius of the Cherusci ambushed and decisively destroyed three Roman legions and their auxiliaries, led by Publius Quinctilius Varus.
Despite several successful campaigns and raids by the Roman army in the years after the battle, they never again attempted to conquer Germanian territory east of the Rhine River.

Germanicus would pay them back with interest at the Battle of Weser River and throughout his campaign in that land, recovering two of the three lost eagles. He'd be the last non-Emperor to receive a triumph, while Arminius would be murdered by his own men.
Good work on the image though. You did a good job capturing the chaos of that battle.

Germanicus bled Germania dry, recovered the eagles, outlived Arminius, and dragged Arminius' wife and son back to Rome in chains. His goal wasn't to conquer Germania but to take revenge for the Varian Disaster, and he accomplished that. The only reason Germania didn't fall was because Emperor Tiberius was jealous of Germanicus' glory and because the Roman Leadership deemed the region too poor to be worth subduing. On your second note, just because Roman historians had biases does not mean they are liars or that everything they say should be disregarded.
