It's a dungeon, but are we looking in... or out?

Well, exactly. Then it's an exercise in perspective, perhaps?

Thank you, I appreciate you saying so.

Thank you for the recommendations, I've been here for a while now and am already reciprocally watching those five guys but I appreciate the suggestions.

i don't know if i should say this.
when i first see this piece, i felt burdened.
i don't know why. but it really made me feel as if i'm guilty of something.
it's like i just saw inside of hell.
not that it's not a piece
instead, a true masterpiece!

thank you so much for commenting on your response to this piece!
what a powerful reaction...rarely does my work get described as a "masterpiece".
much appreciated.

Is she a housewife with no life outside the home, a child sent to his room, or some famous person who is afraid of the paparazzi? or any of the above?

Though the window in the left has no one viewing out it looks more ominous (menacing) of the two. The bars seem to drip like blood. The saying " what goes on behind closed doors..." comes to mind.

Personally, I love windows with the curtains open; being able to look out & I don't usually care if people can look in. What have they got no life of their own?

Hey Gloria, all three of the above, but there's a painting by Evelyn De Morgan, it was her final painting before she died in 1919 and it's called 'The Gilded Cage' it's basically an allegory for female captivity... i was interested in the definition that If someone is in a gilded cage, they are trapped and have restricted or no freedom, but have very comfortable surroundings, only I didn't want to depict the surroundings, just the misery!

I have my windows wide open pretty much all the time.

beautiful...but hard to look at...esp. regarding the title....very dark...maybe not the stereotype of the guilded cage like you would or want to imagine....that expression is an euphemism really....but you painted it like it feels or would feel, heavy....and crushing to death

...sometimes i think i'm more torturing the canvas than painting it, and i agree it's hard to look at, but these things are the hardest to express, the darker things in ones life, i'm just thankful i have the skill to express it...in fact if someone had commented something like "god, that's horrible" i would have taken it as a compliment, but I'm not surprised only three people have said something about this one...although there is beauty there, or i wouldn't have considered it a finished painting...

I guess so....I appreciate your honesty to show the dark side so drastically, well to me it's drastic.....you know....
at least no one made a 'fun' comment

...I do know...it is drastic...but then it's not art (to me) unless it's honest...
