Description Zhenia, yet again, but actually the computer this time (there is actually a huge difference between the character and the computer, DUH)

I started on this a long, long time ago, just about when I started to realise that my computer was slowly dying on me. Or... not really dying, since he can still maintain everyday functions really well, but I've reached the limit for installing new programs, upgrading others and how much I can have on the harddrive before he starts slowing down.
In short, I need a new computer.

I know that's not uncommon, since he's five years old - he should have broken down three years ago considering that it's an Acer, seriously - but that's also the problem. He's five years old.
Do you have any idea how many hours I've spent in front of this damned screen? And how much of my life he really contains? Due to this, it's pretty depressing to have to face the fact that I can't keep him forever. Computers - especially laptops - get outdated, and he simply isn't as good anymore, no matter how much I've learned to keep him as functionable as possible.
It's a machine after all, and they will eventually stop working no matter how well you take care of them.

So that's why I drew this. Of course he can't be hospitalised for real, but it's a good way to show what's really happening, since it's really just a question of waiting for him to break down (although I doubt that he will)
And yes, I am over emotional and silly

But it makes me sad, alright? He's been with me for so long and even though I am quite certain that I will never throw him away - rather keep him as a gaming computer for the XP games I have - I can't keep him either, since he's definitely not in his prime anymore.

And yes, in case you didn't know, those other three people are my scanner Gabriel - the one reading - my tablet Miranda - the girl by the window - and my mp3-player Ilya - the tiny, adorable emo.
They are of course there because they spend quite a lot of time with Zhenia, and because it would have been cruel to draw him alone at a hospital...
Besides, it added quite a lot of emotions.

So. This has been around for a while, simply because I did not feel like finishing it, and what in the end made me do it was the song Soundscape to Ardor from the third Bleach soundtrack, since it put me in the exactly right mood.

Here you have it anyway.
Probably the last tribute to my awesome, cranky, worn computer, who's been with me for years and years, but won't be with me for that much longer.

It's been awesome, but all things comes to an end.
I'll miss him, even if he's just a machine.

I love you dude

She freaked me out too, by telling me I could buy a new cellphone... I HATE new cellphones!!!

Sad picture... well, sad story. Know the feeling, and sorry for asking though I should have guessed how you felt...

She hasn't told me to buy a new cell phone, even though I have a really, really old one That almost surprised me.
She did, however, say that I should buy a new computer when I'm home.

It's really sad

Well... mine's falling apart and shuts down when you call etc. You know the "new" one is totally broken down since a year ago, this one is 5 years old, and we're 4 people who've used it!
Yeah, I read that, and heard.

Yeah...

I have to really old but really working ones
Whatever do you do to your phones?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Louicifer In reply to Lienwyn [2009-12-05 15:15:39 +0000 UTC]

Well, I have a total of 8 phones I think, about half of them working. Of cause it's the oldest of them that's working.

I drop them...
But this time it was from the hight of a living-room table, so it's the phone who's worthless.

I have two phones, both of them working Although I'm only using one of them of course.

I drop mine too, but they still work >_>
The one I'm using now I've droppen on the asphalt, on the stone floor at school (multiple times) so just... get better phones

They don't make good phones these days...

It's really sad to see them go, but eventually they all do and all we can do is miss the days we've had with them...
I like the mood you've caught in this, and the amounts of details - just enough to see them, but not so they overtake the picture - but what enchants me the most is the sky... I really really like it.
Is love, this picture. A sad sad love.

Yes, indeed they do... although... well... he doesn't seem like breaking down anything soon, really, I should just swap him out anyway

Thank you anyway
I'm glad that you like it ^_^
It was strangely important to me >_>

And yesterday my mother called and told me that I can buy a new computer while I'm home at Christmas... it nearly freaked me out

Sjazna In reply to Lienwyn [2009-12-09 14:40:06 +0000 UTC]

Well that's also a way to do it of course... he doesn't have to fall to pieces before one say good bye...

*hugs*
I really do ^^

I can understand that!
Ah well...

Lienwyn In reply to Sjazna [2009-12-11 11:31:58 +0000 UTC]

Nope... because I doubt that he will anytime soon, as said. But he's not in such a good shape that I should keep on using him either... So I will most likely buy a new computer when I'm home this Christmas, yes. It seems like the proper time...

Ya, my laptop's pretty old, too. I acctually bought it off my dad, who's over in Iraq, so it's veeeery special to me. We shall have a funeral for your great computer! But hopfully not for a while.

Enjoy your sick computer! Lol.

Lienwyn In reply to WeirdoOnWheels [2009-10-01 16:49:40 +0000 UTC]

I can imagine that it's very special to you, yes...

And no, hopefully not for a while
I hope to be able to keep him even after I've bought a new one.

WeirdoOnWheels In reply to Lienwyn [2009-10-01 16:51:41 +0000 UTC]

Same here. I might get a new one in the next four years, but I'm still keeping this one.

WeirdoOnWheels In reply to Lienwyn [2009-10-04 17:38:21 +0000 UTC]

Yes, yes it would.

My laptop will live out the end of it's days as either an extra computer (if I get a new one) or a decoration. They'll have to tear it away from me kicking and screaming.

You're not silly ;__;
I'M gonna miss him, and I've never even met him in person =^= ;XD but I understand the feeling. My boy is old too .__. I'm still ignoring it as much as I can.. Will you stop drawing him then? Totally?
..... oh, man this is so sad. The picture is really getting to me DX;

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lienwyn In reply to Jontamar [2009-10-01 13:33:49 +0000 UTC]

Naaaw
Thank you

And... well... perhaps I still have the character that looks the same though, so there will be someone with his looks around, but it's not certain that it will be the computer...

Then you can imagine how I feel

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Jontamar In reply to Lienwyn [2009-10-17 13:33:34 +0000 UTC]

*^* ~ ^__^;;

Aw, but I haven't even introduced my characters yet =3=;;
I know I am the fecking slowest person in the WORLD;;; Can't you let him live on, like, by the side of the new one, whom ever it may become, like a teacher of sort? ObiWan Kenobi, yes!? *D*;;;

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lienwyn In reply to Jontamar [2009-10-17 15:15:17 +0000 UTC]

You better hurry up then

I most probably will, since I'll keep Zhenia as a gaming computer, as said So he'll be around, just not drawn as often

And I have to admit that seeing him as ObiWan Kenobi is pretty awesome
If you finish your computer, I'll draw them together, I promise
(but just the computer... I probably won't have space for all the other things you draw )

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Jontamar In reply to Lienwyn [2010-01-15 01:26:29 +0000 UTC]

Haha, so.. Has Zhenia become an 'ObiWan Kenobi' for the new guy.. um, Kazimir was it? C:

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lienwyn In reply to Jontamar [2010-01-15 15:19:12 +0000 UTC]

Kinda, yes
They're often on at the same time, so I'm kind of checking what I should move from Zhenia to Kazimir and such, but over the last couple of days I've gotten the habit to have Internet on Kazimir and music and Photoshop on Zhenia
It's quite fun, really

Jontamar In reply to Lienwyn [2010-02-12 14:07:15 +0000 UTC]

Ah, sounds cute ;X3
Haha, and I have quite the same situation here now XDD
- I don't know if I told you yet, but I've got myself a new PC-boy now D8
Athocks just can't handle bitch-Photoshop and he can't communicate with the keyboard (I'm writing/drawing up the tragic story about it right now) and I'm in a big pinch with loads of online-based schoolwork, so I just had to buy a new computor Dlll;;; It's a pain really, because I can't figure out Windows 7;;;;
But anyway - he's name is Villiam, and he's a golden teenage prince with a secret multiple personality 8D

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lienwyn In reply to Jontamar [2010-07-17 00:01:38 +0000 UTC]

Late answer but ah well

So... how does you new computer look?
You know I want you to draw him

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Jontamar In reply to Lienwyn [2010-07-17 10:31:53 +0000 UTC]

haha XD

haha 8D well. He's.. cute I guess .___. not girly-flashy-sprakly cute, but more like, normal boy-cute, I guess. Around 16 yrs old. He has sort of a touch of 1860s, like, knee-long stockings and his hair's in a ribbon.. uh, it's kinda hard to explain this cute-but-not-cute-uncool-but-still-a-little-cool-look that I'm going for, lol ;;; I wanna draw him to show, but I am psychotically strict to myself about having some sort of order in which I'm showing my "family". It's a matter of prestige for them to be shown off in the order they have lived and ruled *offically nuts* Next up is my old screen, and then mouse and keyboard, I think.. I'll have to work faster XD;

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lienwyn In reply to Jontamar [2010-07-17 11:20:11 +0000 UTC]

It sounds interesting anyway, even if... well... it's a bit difficult to understand, yes x'D
But I will wait patiently
But you working faster WOULD help a little, yes

Jontamar In reply to Lienwyn [2010-07-21 10:22:54 +0000 UTC]

;XD ;;

I know, I'm slow with some things, and this is one :/ And I'm very slow right now too. I hardly draw anything. It's like my motivation and joy-about-drawing took a vacation. I don't feel anything..

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lienwyn In reply to Jontamar [2010-07-21 22:01:06 +0000 UTC]

Don't push it if you don't want to
Drawing should come because it feels good, not through force

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Jontamar In reply to Lienwyn [2010-08-08 11:17:28 +0000 UTC]

yeah, it doesn't get any good if it's forced. And it don't feel so good either :/ It feels stressing though, to call myself a professional artist(at least that's my only edjucation so I have to go with that..) and not being able to draw OR do anything else like getting a 'real' job .___.;
And many people I know says that forcing yourelf to draw and write is just a normal thing that you have to do - never wait for inspiration because it's a dangerous myth!.. and I'm seriously wondering if I can do it. And that makes the stress so much worse.. gaaah DX
Being an artist is like being in a constant twilight-zone or something X__X

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lienwyn In reply to Jontamar [2010-08-25 15:30:03 +0000 UTC]

It's a really, REALLY tricky thing >_>
I rarely know what to do and lately it's been even worse so I can understand your confusion.
It would be easier if it just came on its own as it always did when I was younger x'D

Lawenta [2009-09-30 21:21:08 +0000 UTC]

You know, it might sound silly and over emotional, but I don't think we'd be truly human without being able to love even unanimate objects - and miss them, too. For some reason I never had this kind of bond with any of our computers, but there are other things I don't want to let go: one stuffed animal, an old armchair worn so deep that you almost sit on the ground in it, and that piano that can't be tuned anymore, the one that saw me bored, furious, playful, dreamy, mourning, and generally was with me most of my childhood. I'd find more if I tried, too

I think some things just deserve to be loved - and this is a wonderful tribute to your Zhenia.
It's heartrending to see him without his usual attitude.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lienwyn In reply to Lawenta [2009-10-01 13:32:49 +0000 UTC]

I guess I care so much about this one because I bought him myself, with my own money and all >_> And I've had him with me practically everywhere I've gone.

It is, isn't it?
It's hard to recognise him, really...

It's so sad when machines die. It always leaves holes in my heartstrings somehow, and for as long as this lineart has existed, of course it's been tugging on them too
It's very sweet, and absolutely my favourite image of Zhenia (which... may come out a bit wrong... I guess) and the other giijinka'd tech stuffs. It makes me want to draw my tech stuff in giijinka form too, but I dunno what the hell to do

Very nice anyway.
