Badass. This does not look unfinished to me and what roughness it has lends itself well here. I love the clash of reds and blues here and the lighting is fantastic. It embodies Sol Badguy's and Ky Kiske's battle well.

Of course, I'll critique and I would love some critiques too!! I don't think I would even be where I am without the help of other artists. Speaking of which, I may have some pieces coming up that deal with some things I have major issues with and I would love some pointers on those when the time comes.

My suggestions would be:
Plan out your composition beforehand with light sketchy strokes, rearrange stuff if necessary.
Learn how to draw limbs and legs better when constructing a fight sequence. Action lines and effects also help. Dust clouds do as well.
Lastly, pick your color choices wisely, they can make or break any line art depending on use or over-use of color. Sometimes I start over if my colors aren't what I want....sometimes I just leave it as lineart.

Trust me, this piece has definitely taught me a lot about things not to to in pieces but I didn't want to keep the piece to myself especially after I invested all the time I did into it (which was probably part of the problem). As an artist, I think I need to make the mistakes before I completely learn from them especially as I try to push the boundaries of how I draw my art.
This piece could have used a lot planning more but I got a bit ahead of myself and that happens more than I would like it to. This actually started out as a simple sketch but sometimes my sketches end up going a bit farther. I just needed something to do to pass the time during a somewhat strange time and this ended up being something I would revisit everyso often and each time I revisited it, I had new ideas which may or may not have successfully integrated themselves into the big picture. So if I had to describe this picture, it would be a mish-mash of half baked ideas that I would love to go back and refine when I have really, really thought about what needs to go and what need to change. Lately, I have been working more on my lineart but I enjoy coloring and sketching with blocks of color more than I enjoy doing drawing lineart. I suppose that might lead to my tendency to get to the colors before I should. I guess the good news out of all of this would be that I can learn from my mistakes and that hopefully my future works will be better because of this.
Thank you for your suggestions, they are very appreciated and I'll keep them in mind.

This artwork is awesome! The colors are brilliant, and I love the fighting scene of Sol and Ky. This is definitely stylized like classic GG, and this piece looks simply epic.

Yeah, I agree that those outfits are more intricately designed. Actually, Sol outfit in his story is my favorite outfit of him, and for me, better than his usual and Overture outfit.
Sadly, very few fans appreciate Overture, it gets a lot of hate just for being 3D. Also, not many people knew that those official arts exist.

Yes I agree, Sol's outfit was very awesome in comparison to the one that actually made it in Overture. I felt like this outfit fit Sol's established look better and didn't take him in the totally different direction that the Overture one did (not that the Overture one is bad).
I'll admit I was a bit wary of Overture at first but I am glad I actually gave it a chance. I actually never played it until sometime last year so I was pretty late to the party. To be honest I actually like the story in Overture a lot better than the story in the other games and I am pretty sure that's a pretty unpopular opinion. I felt like it was more streamlined (probably because it focused on less characters). But that's could be because I really like Ky's character and Ky happened to be one of the characters in it. I can see someone not playing the game because their character wasn't in it. I also didn't find the gameplay too bad, there was quite a mean learning curve but I actually liked it once I got into the rhythm of things and I still play it to this day. I just wish it was a lot longer.

I don't like his outfit in Overture for two reasons: I think loose long-sleeved shirts do not fit Sol. He looks more badass and sexier with a fitted black top (badass jacket over it would be fine.) Secondly, his pants fit teenager better than a huge adult like him. I actually don't like Ky's look either. His motiffs are awesome but I think he looks like he's in the dress and the tiara is so girly.
I wholeheartedly agree with you about Overture. I think the story is good, and Ky's character development is both shocking and impressive (And I'm his fangirl.) Sadly, I think the cutscenes are mediocre and boring, especially when you compare it to mainstream 3D games like Tekken and Final Fantasy. But I really wish I could pplay the game.

Yes, Sol's outfit really seemed different and somewhat out of character to me, but I think that Sol really did change a lot from his XX self so maybe it was done purposely, after all a couple years have come by. Sol has an established persona that we have come to know and expect so it was somewhat jarring to see him taken in a somewhat different direction. Ky's outfit took a lot of getting used to. I didn't really like it at first but it grew on me over time and after seeing some other artists interpret his outfit I kind of like it now. Yeah it is still dresslike. Makes me wish he had a "King outit" which would be the one he is currently wearing and a more battle ready outfit. I remember when I first played him I was like "he is going to fight in that?" but whatever it is Guilty Gear and Ky is magical and can make do with anything. However I do not like the hair... don't think I am ever going to like the hair which I suppose is somewhat ironic since I draw his Overture styled hair more than his XX awesome hair.
When it comes to the cutscenes I will admit I was a bit disappointed but Arc Sys lacked the resources to do anything better, this was their first 3D game and they aren't as big as Square Enix or Namco. I remember reading an interview somewhere (I don't remember) but I think the question was something along the lines of "where were the people of Illyria?"and they said they had planned to have a scene showing the people evacuating from the city when Valentine's forces invaded but they didn't have the resources. I think the cutscenes did their job. There wasn't really a need to be overly flashy, that was what the gameplay was for. However I am really happy to see Arc outsourcing their cutscenes and openings to animation studios like in Blazblue and Hard Corps. Hopefully they do something similar with the next Guilty Gear. That would be amazing.
I really wish Overture was more successful, I really did enjoy it and I think it was far from the worst Guilty Gear. I would love to see a sequel done the same way. There was definitely a lot of things such as the overcrowded hud that could have used some tweaking and I would love to see them really refine that gameplay style. But I don't think that is going to happen. If you ever get a chance to play the game you definitely should though, it's great and I am glad I didn't let the somewhat negative opinions of the game keep me from playing it.

Oh I wish I could play Overture, probably by the time I have the money to buy it, it'll be dead.
Yeah, I really wish animated cutscenes for the next Guilty Gear. But since Arc Sys bought the rights back, then I'm sure they have full intent on continuing the series.

You say it's unfinished but this type of art can be pretty interesting to look at as it is with the kinds of solid color and straight shapes that you're using. The lighting coming off of both of their swords is also something interesting about this piece.

Thank you for the comment. I am glad that there is something interesting in its "unfinishedness" or that it can somewhat pass off as finished. It's really something that I like to hear from other people since it makes me feel much better about posting it as is.

Thank you and I know what you mean. I have actually been enjoying Blazblue a lot more lately but it always seems to get me in the mood to switch games and play more Guilty Gear. Personally I think it is harder for me to take an interest in Blazblue characters, beacuse none of their personalities seem to appeal to me but I think it is something that can change over time. I was the same way with Guilty Gear initially. Haha, it took me about a year of messing around to actually find a main.
