What kind of animal is the bottom half supposed to be?

No existing species. This particular type of centaurs would inhabit a giant network of plant trails, so the feet and such are more suitable for holding onto those.

well here ya go, i would've...:
1: put a small blade on the tip of the tail.
2: changed the skin color to a crimson and black pattern.

Thanks! It is for the clergymen of the Caterpillar all the centaurs worship around there when they need to make longer travels. Also a convenient thing to attach stuff like pouches and blankets to.

This is a fantastic take on the centaur character! I can't tell if he is a good guy or a bad guy and in my book that means great character development.
one thing though, I can't spot a single difference between the before and after shots, except maybe the increase in color and dynamic. I really enjoy looking at before and after shots, it teaches me a lot. So I am now going to ask: What did you change?
š: 0 ā©: 1
liiga In reply to ShuiYue [2010-09-14 01:20:09 +0000 UTC]
Thanks a lot! The most notable change is on the arms, the one to our right got the upper arm reworked entirely 'cause it was just horribly wrong. The one on our left got the elbow part rotated around after a lot of exercise in front of the mirror, plus some minor adjustments on the hand, shoulder area and such.
The front legs also got reworked somewhat, particularly the straightened leg to make the lower part of it more natural looking and less stick-like, and the fingers bent in a less stiff manner and more sinking into the moss.
Other than that it was adjustments on the musculature on the upper hind leg, small nubs added to the hind paw which is viewed in profile to suggest rudimentary fingers, lighting adjustments along the torso to show better muscle tonus and small knick-knacks on the hair, clouds, spear, flag, grass and bunny.
Mostly a lot of extremely small things that end up making a lot of difference in the flow of the image. It's maddening how much of a change some tiny nuances can mean.

Ah yes I see the colors are bolder now and you upped the contrast. Very nice. There's something about the flag though that puts me off. Not enough shadows possibly or maybe it's because the whole thing is very saturated without any desaturated or faded areas. Not quite sure...
