Description
From what I know, Earl Grey is actually a blend of teas with the bergamot oil that makes it distinct. Bergamot is a kind of orange, which was one of the main inspirations behind my illustration this time. According to Wikipedia, the tea was a special blend made for a Lord Grey, but it was Lady Grey who made it popular among her friends and associates. You go, Lady! I have to say that when I drink Earl Grey, it tastes like a normal black tea to me, and the citrus fragrance is hard to discern--guess my palate isn't sophisticated enough...

More on the drawing. The character of Lady Grey was intriguing to me, so I wanted to do some kind of late 19th/early 20th century sophisticated but awesome lady. And by "but awesome" I mean a lady who partakes in competitive archery. How could this image not have inspired me??? But I think the costume was actually more inspired by my obsession with Downton Abbey, and I referenced from this picture of Mary Crawley's riding gear. I love how masculine, but also delicate, the outfit feels. AND as for the weird orange-and-white target, I figured it couldn't be any less effective than a red-and-white target!

This one wasn't as rigorous as Darjeeling was but I had issues with Photoshop randomly freezing on me. At one point, I finished all the shading and realized Photoshop would not let me save. Then it crashed and I had to do all the shading all over again! Also, this is my first tea drawing with a background and I think it looks a bit silly and artificial. Oh well...It's a learning process, I guess!
