Description What do you get when you mix 2 old Linux boxes, 2 old laptops, and a crazy mad scientist? In my case, you end up with a render farm....

To be honest, I almost posted this to my scraps area. However, it is the result of the first really usable render farm I have ever made based on the Megapov render engine and python server and client scripts. I wasn't overly happy with this piece as it would appear one of my machines went psycho and introduced some odd banding in the image. I'm not anxious to rework it just yet ,as it took 3 days to render with 4 machines running full tilt.

However, this was a good piece to show some of the more advanced features of Povray such as caustics and other angle of incidence effects.

3 days, 4 machines.... ... you're mad!! ... but then... isn't that the point of it...?

I see that the result are indeed very cool anyway - apart from the "striped" part (could it be a new trend in magic suits? ) the effect on the dress are... magical! good work!

Really impressive, being a techy geek the technologies you use impress me as well, I used Povray a long time ago to do some work, but I've gotten hooked on graphics based front ends, so your work really impresses me. Maybe it's time to relook at Povray, at least to set up a render farm (Me=computer network tech=lots of spare computers)

Not bad looking, even with the problems. I like the iridescence! The soap-bubble effect is VERY cool looking. Three days is way too long a render like this, though. With old machines...not bad at all! ^__^V,,

Unfortunately... The soap bubble effect is what takes the 3 days...... Adding caustics to a scene in Povray just causes the render times to go through the roof. I've never seen anything like it. I guess they never optimized that part of the code.

There is always something. I created a material in Poser that is ambient, transparent and reflective and drove one render to two days. LOLOLOLOL Lordy

Reflections can be a killer as well.
I like using the true reflections, but it is possible to create a variety of reflection maps like poser uses. Unlike poser, you can also vary the reflectivity across the surface as well.

I just wish I had math skills to apply various applications. povray code is beyond me. So I'll stick to Poser and Vue. Dammit. Still is better than crayons!

I was wondering about the banding. Very cool that you made a renderfarm though. Would have faved this but for the bands... great work.

great textures hon, I don't doubt that taking forever to render, such high detailed reflective texture mostly do I love the staff she's holding and the pinkish texture.

The pink is a weird side effect of the glass being red and the lighting having a slightly bluish tint. Still, I like the effect as well.

No if I could just get some more powerful computers.....

this piece is amazing, and I don't doubt it took 3 days with four machines, ! Even with the grainy quality of the image, it's still gorgeous. Wonderful work!

Oh I thought the banding was from the actual materials! If you didn't say I would know those were pic artifacts. The skin shader looks a little "dirty" like Poser IBL sometimes does. In Poser this can be fixed by increasing irradiance caching and sometimes pixel sampling as well. But I am sure MegaPov has other ways to adjust this. All the reflections and refractions are the high point in this render, looks beautiful! ^^

The dirty effect was a problem with converting the .ppm file to something I could work with. The file was corrupted and not quite complete. I've still got some bugs to work out.....

I like to see how much work you put into those renders and HOW LONG they take to render. The longest I have ever rendered was like 22 hours and I will never do that again! LOL
