Thank you Paula.

Geez, I'm so sorry for being away so much, but I don't see a way around it until I have found employment. I will find out tomorrow if I got the job I interviewed for last week.

It's okay...I understand. I've been pretty busy, too. Our weekends have been full of photography trips and during the week I have been trying to go to the gym every night before coming home to make dinner and then enjoy our favorite tv shows. It doesn't leave much time for working on pictures, though!
But come this winter...you can bet I won't be bored when it's too cold to go outside! lol!
I hope you get the job!

I guess by Winter, you'll have enough images to work on to keep you busy the rest of your life!

Bet you don't 'need' the gym as much as you 'want' it.

La-Vita-a-Bella In reply to LoneWolfPhotography [2009-08-24 23:06:10 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I have a crap load of images that need to be worked on. I just keep taking them and hardly doing anything with them! lol!
I need the gym greatly....gotta lose about 50lbs.

LoneWolfPhotography In reply to La-Vita-a-Bella [2009-08-24 23:09:15 +0000 UTC]

I am the same way....I've gotten into a slump where I am enjoying taking them more than editing them so I have hundreds that haven't been touched yet. Used to be, I'd have all new images edited by the end of the day following the day I took them but not anymore.

I know how you feel, due to my length of unemployment and not working hard every day like I have the rest of my life, I have another small person to get rid of too.

La-Vita-a-Bella In reply to LoneWolfPhotography [2009-08-25 15:13:36 +0000 UTC]

I wouldn't call mine a slump....it's just that time of year to be taking them. There will be plenty of time to edit them in the winter.

A small person... ...that's a funny way of putting it. Hmmmm....50lbs would be the equivalent of a five year old I'm carrying around.

I hear ya....seems like there is much more free time once the cold weather really sets in.

Kind of scary isn't it? I think, that over the period of my unemployment and lack of daily exercise, I am now up to about a 10 year old son.

I am not really fond of being out in the cold. I'm a native Californian and did not grow up with all this snow we get there so I pretty much hibernate when it comes around. lol! But I'm getting better...last year we bought snow shoes and I really enjoyed doing that.

It's very easy for the extra pounds to sneak on. I finally just decided I'd had it....I was pissed that I had to decline climbinb Mt. Adams with my brother this year because I knew I'd never make it. I finally found my motivation and self-discipline (I think they were hiding under the couch) and have been exercising every day and eating less. So far I've lost 4 lbs...6 more lbs and I'll be down to a 4 year old.

Absolutely, she never fails to leave me slack jawed in awe. Sometimes I am so busy gawking at the sky at sunset I almost forget to take the photos.

You have just touched on something I ponder nearly as much as "what is the meaning of life".

I often wonder what my life would be like if I did not turn out to love photography so much. I mean, we spend most of our time seeing life through a viewfinder instead of participating in it as intimately as those who can just sit outside and enjoy the sunset for what it is, without running for the camera. Know what I mean?

RooCat In reply to LoneWolfPhotography [2009-08-24 22:52:37 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I do but I'm not sure I could completely let go of having some magnificant photos to share the wonders I've seen either. Participation is fine but sharing with others who couldn't participate is good, too.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LoneWolfPhotography In reply to RooCat [2009-08-27 04:13:28 +0000 UTC]

Of course I couldn't either...it's why I am a photographer and not one of those other types. I understand you completely...sharing what I have the luck or the blessings to witness with others that weren't fortunate enough to have been there is what drives me.

Maybe one day they'll put her in the show and I can get a photo of her in flight! Wouldn't that be awesome!

JocelyneR In reply to LoneWolfPhotography [2009-08-24 02:20:55 +0000 UTC]

That would be amazing indeed!
But aren't they supposed to sleep all day?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LoneWolfPhotography In reply to JocelyneR [2009-08-24 22:04:52 +0000 UTC]

You know, I often wonder about that too, but I don't think it's really true. I think they just hunt mostly at night so people tend to believe they sleep all day. Truly, I think they are no different than like cats....they sleep whenever they want and just take naps during the day.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JocelyneR In reply to LoneWolfPhotography [2009-08-24 23:01:17 +0000 UTC]

I didn't know that, really. My cats sleep a lot during the day and they become very playful at night but they can be pretty awaken during the day as well, it depends on the circumstances. So, it makes sense to me.

I don't remember seeing owls but one tiny little barely seen fella. Oh.. and a HUGE Barn owl during the Birds of Prey show. Poor Richard missed a few pictures just because of not being able to get settled into his position before the bird flew away...but there are always more trips, no?

LoneWolfPhotography In reply to RetteMichBabe [2009-08-22 21:40:28 +0000 UTC]

She is not on display anywhere currently and is not a part of the show yet either. On this particular day, she was brought out especially for me, which I took as a great honor. I know how Richard must have felt....I'm like a kid at Christmas finding my spot...always second-guessing myself...."would I be better off over there? What if I'm too close here..." and all that. Many times I miss the shot while moving to what I think will be a better spot.

Yes, there are always more trips. I'm personally going nuts waiting for the 12th of September to get here for the grand opening of Predators of the Serengeti! If they delay it again, I'll explode!

I know which tiny little fella you're talking about. The one at the bottom of Cascade Canyon, just before the Cougars by the bathrooms. It took me nearly half an hour to find him...I was looking for something bigger and just couldn't see the little guy. He's only, what....4 or 5 inches tall? Incredible. I think I got a shot or two of him that came out decent...I should upload them.

RetteMichBabe In reply to LoneWolfPhotography [2009-08-22 22:21:07 +0000 UTC]

That could explain it for sure. I would have been very honored as well

He was SOO frustrated. we were basically underneath almost, the perch front left facing the stage with the bones...he got laid back focused and everything then the little vulture flew off. he was cussing under his breath for a while. I was the only one who got any sort of shot at all of her. Or him? I don't remember

He is so excited too. I don't think I'll make it but he's hoping to rent a good camera and take some awesome pictures if he can make it for sure... I hope he does. I love the person he becomes when he takes pictures. He's amazing to watch. His energies and everything, just fantastic.

I was talking to the nest box and he started moving is the ONLY reason I saw him...yeah he's soooo itty... I didn't see him clearly but I bet he's precious

LoneWolfPhotography In reply to RetteMichBabe [2009-08-22 23:34:58 +0000 UTC]

I know just how he feels. When I am in "shooting mode" I am useless to be around. If you talked to me, I probably wouldn't even hear you...I get too focused...like I'm in a little world all by myself, just me and what I'm shooting.

I originally tried to e right in the middle too, but I found it didn't work too well. For one, it was hard to focus, they would be flying right at me too quickly and then all you'd see was just the front profile of them. I found that, for me, it works better if I am over by the restaurant there, to the right of the stage and about midway up the lawn. Then I can track them and their distance from me stays relatively the same so focusing is much easier.

I'll dig up my photos and check if any are worth uploading of that little owl. Can't remember what kind he was...I'll have to see if I can look that up too.

He actually is very easy for at least me to communicate with. But I speak to him gently and make sure that it's not anything he needs to think much about. We are pretty close so we can talk almost without much verbiage

We had a large group and two strollers and there weren't a lot of places left when we got there to accomodate us

If he and I get to go just us then we may sit elsewhere. I'll tell him about where you sit and see what he thinks ^^

Cool. and I did put up that owl picture

I've not had that a lot in my life so, yes indeed, it is amazing

And I know, but I know how much he loves taking those pictures and it never hurts to try it once, right? If he can find somewhere he can get good shots from, I think he'd appreciate it
