 Introduction to "Leaving the Praying Pools"

Objective: To have your horse travel with the other small group at the praying pools, through the winter storm to the rest of the herd.

Synopsis: The prophet Eiru has had another vision, this time of the bachelor herd. She has told your horses, that have been left behind by their herd to watch the praying pool - the most sacred land in all of the Olde's territory--- that the Bachelor herd means to cause war. Eiru explains to your horses that, with the oncoming weather and the obvious realization that the importance of her vision does not compare to the importance of the pool now.

 Confused and irritated with the sudden change - the horses that reside at the praying pool feel they must inform their leaders, Vasska and Bloom.  After much time simply watching their praying pool, due to the abnormal red color it has been shining for the past few months - they make the decision to leave and tell their leaders of the news. They must move quickly however - because the land bridges open again today and there's no time to loose!

Lukan pricked his ears up again, finding himself strangely talkative, unusual circumstances aside. He was already towards the back of the group anyway; making some use of himself seemed like the next logical step. "I'll bring up the rear." He called out, managing to make himself heard despite the wind and the scratching in his throat. Even if he wasn't the biggest horse, he was tall enough to see everyone at least and that was something. Tansy's help would make it easier on everyone, but the journey would still be a far cry from a simple stroll in the meadows.

Scanning the herd looking for anyone who might need help, Lukan fell back a few steps at a time until there was no one behind him but empty space and hoofprints that were soon washed away by a fresh cover of snow. If all went well, as he hoped it would, nothing sinister would appear there. The last thing they needed was danger before them and behind.

_|Eiru|_
Oracle of Olde | Plains of Olde

The chestnut horse turned as she heard the voice of a familiar mare.  As the wind whipped through her tail, she halted, facing all of the horses behind her, gaze resting on Arriana.  Her ears flicked forwards hopefully, a smile crossing her shivering muzzle.  "I am grateful for your help, Arriana," she chattered between clicking teeth.  It seemed this cold could reach through to the bone, it's perpetual wind cutting through her thickened coat like it was butter.

Eiru had begun shivering violently with the wind's increase, her desperation at the prospect of their journey pulling her mind back to the storm.  Tears formed in the corners of her eyes as the frigged air pulled all moisture from them.  The rest of the herd continued talking as they went, a few trying to lighten the mood with joking words tossed between friends.  Nothing could make her feel better about this. . . Then Arriana spoke once more.  "Let us hurry!"

Eiru could feel the irritation growing in the pit of her stomach.  Of course they would hurry!  She was beyond worried about Vasska and the other half of the herd.  What was there left to do but hurry?  Lukan spoke up with words of encouragement, saying that they could not accept anything else as an option.  Of course not. . . Defeat could not be allowed.  Then Tansy added her opinion to the mix.  And it was a good one at that.

"Yes.  Yes, Tansy that is a good idea," the mare murmured in reply.  "I will walk in front as well."  These horses were her responsibility. . . she had to be sure they would not be lead astray.  "Those who wish to be in front, state so now and take your position.  Also, some one needs to fall behind and watch for any who are struggling.  No horse can be left behind!"  The commanding tone in her voice surprised her.  She had never been this forceful before.

Tansy || Vanner Mare

Those words the Eiru led air were not really necessary, the fact that the wind tore at their manes and the fact that the line of sight was ever decreasing as more and more snow blinded them. Her eyes watered as the cold air and the flying crystals did nothing to help that. Tansy looked back, the wind taking her hair around her face as she eyed the rest of the little herd that moved now and she felt suddenly bad for them coming out here. Some of these were not the most strong of horse, much like the blind one beside her. As the rest caught up to her she vowed to let her emotions sit and work with all of them. Nosing Elian's neck again she whispered softly to him

"Stay near my warmth"

Being on the thicker side she tended to easily keep warm. Her thick vanner trait fur helped also and hoped that it would help Elian as well if he stayed close enough. The wind made a sudden howling blast past them and she hunkered herself against her friend and waited that gust out. As it simmered down to just a whistle again she looked to Eiru to see a pretty pale mare talking with her that she had not noticed before. Nudging and informing Elian to follow her she moved to Eiru as well, this storm was going to only get worse

"Eiru I think we need to make some sort of formation, the weaker and smaller need to follow trails and have some form of protection from this"

Another gust picked up and hit them hard as if trying to drive the point her words made home.

"I can be upfront, i'm a good wind shield"

She tried to smile so that it would seem a little less dark feeling. Tansy wanted all of them to make it to their leader, of course that was what she wanted, even if she never really felt a part of this herd the vanner would never wish harm upon any living being.

It took a good deal of self-persuasion to get Lukan to turn away from home once more. His thoughts turned to his parents who had stayed behind to help look after the others as well; he felt confident that they would be alright and it gave him strength to plow into the snow and wind ahead. Sharp gusts threw stinging flakes and ice at him making him grumble under his breath, but it drove him forward faster then before. The stallion picked his feet up high, kicking up drifts of snow as he bounded forward coming to slow just behind the rest of the group. His ears pricked forward, trying to pick up the sounds of their voices over the howl of the wind.

Overall there was worry in the conversation. The storm was growing fiercer, the danger growing closer, and nothng they could do but hope and walk. Lukan's eyes rested on Eiru and Arriana. The two mares seemed to be the most vocal about it.

"We'll get there in time!" He had to practically shout over the wind to try and make himself heard. "Just don't accept anything else as an option!"

Arriana

The mature mare turned her head against the fierce wind. It was truly awful. Ice in the rain stung her eyes, and snow made her mane heavy. Not to mention the knee deep snow. The walk to the southern shore would be long and tiring, and Arriana still feared what she would find on the Bachelors side. So many faces she would know, all angry she had left behind.

A voice pulled her from thought. Tem, was it? She smiled softly at the bay and nodded slowly. "I hope this storm weakens soon, or we'll never each Vasska."

Vasska. She still worried for him most of all. The pressures of being king seemed to have hardened him greatly.

"Let us hurry!"

Janice

Janice forced her heavy built head against her chest as she fought against the force of the storm battering against her and the others. She grunted as the wind also managed to force the sixteen point three hand mare into a slow crawling walk, but Janice hated the idea of nature winning against her in such a simple way. She growled very quietly to herself and forced herself to move on against the gale force winds.

Her ears swiveled at Tem's word at the minual visual the entire group had in this storm. She attempted to speak in agreement but the snow flushed down her throat and made her cough as she tried to have the words roll off her tongue. Her coughing finally ceased as Tem spoke in her direction asking her jokingly if she could kill the storm, "My royal knight, I shall try. And killing horses is not social etiquette by my eyes, only a small amount of collateral damage." Janice spoke with a deadly grin, hopping it sounded like a joke as her herd was not of the joking type.

Her head whipped to the side hearing a young mare speak earlier to Eiru and Janice studied her. She had a light build and light coloring with a nice white chrome markings splashing like a ocean's wave against the shore. Janice gave a small smile at the mare but didn't speak yet as the mare hadn't acknowledged her yet, and she wasn't about to go rambling of to several strangers she could most defiantly scare off with a few words.

(OOC: Really was hoping someone else would reply at some point, but apparently not. Don't let this die, guys!)

Tem.

Things had taken a turn for the worst. It had been difficult enough trudging through the snow - especially for one as small as Tem was - but now a storm threatened to make their trek even more arduous. Up ahead the sky looked dark, casting the trees and snow in shadow. Wind whipped his mane into a frenzy and his eyes stung from the large snow flakes that came barreling down. It was beginning to get hard to deal with.

Pushing forward against the wind, he kept his head down low and his flank firmly against Elian's. For one, the larger stallion shielded him from some of the force, but it also made Tem feel better, knowing that his friend wasn't getting lost.

"Now none of us can see more than two horses in front of us," he murmured to the other stallion. To be honest, Tem was a bit scared. He was thickly built, or incredibly powerful, and he knew things would be worse for him. Even if he had friends to walk next to.

He turned, with great difficultly, his head to Janice, who wasn't far. "Any chance you could rip this storm apart? I mean, I don't think trying to kill us is normal social etiquette."

He shouldn't be joking, but it made the thumping of his heart less noticeable. With his ears flattened and his eyes semi-closed, he continued moving, hoping the horses in front knew where to go. Tansy would prove to be a valiant shield, though. Maybe he should get closer.

A pinkish mare soldiered through the snow as well and as he heaved heavily with every breath, he tried to smile at her. "Nice weather out, isn't it?"

(( Arriana joins this Objective thread ))

Arriana

Eiru's word had sunk deep into the mares heart. For a long time, she had stood there alone worrying for those she cared about. Her dearest little sister, the guard Ziara, was at the land bridge. Not Eiru spoke of violence, and her heart ached to take her sister away from the danger. But it wasn't just Ziara she cared for. Bloom, and Vasska, two horses she cared about greatly. Particularly her king. Her childhood love was walking in the dark, leading his herd to a battle he would not be anticipating.

But what could she do? She was a mother, a carer, an adviser at best. Politics and war were not her forte. Perhaps she would be better staying behind to look after the younger, elder, and more frightened members of her herd.

She had only been in the herd for no more than a week. The possibility of seeing the Bachelors, the herd she had escaped from, petrified her. Would her sons be there, ready to kill Vasska for the cause? Would Vasska see those two stallion, and recognise Arriana's blood in there veins. She had yet to tell him of her life there, and now it might lead him to pains.

Would she go, and risk enraging the Bachelors more with her presence? Or would she stay with the herd that barely remembered her, let alone trusted her?

Vasska is my dearest friend, and I have sworn to be there for him. He needs the strength of his herd more than ever. Their deep bond would surely give the King the courage he would now need.

"Eiru."  Arriana trotted through the thick slow and joined the Oracle. "I do not know how much help I can be, but I will help you and our King however I can."

Her smile was stead fast and true. Her rich eyes were determined, but soft with maturity. Some argued to stay, some argued to go, but the walk had begun and Arriana stayed with Eiru to support the wise mares decision. Their king needed guidance, and the truth of the dark situation he would soon find himself in.

Janice attempted a chuckle, but it came out more like a hoarse sounding cough. Tem's words were bouncing around her head, "Oh, I would, but my mouth sometimes runs away with me. Why, I'd probably set out to compliment you in the nicest way possible and then find myself calling you a goat in the same breath. Without meaning to! It's a talent I have perfected." he had said, Janice smirked a little bit before she replied,
"Well you have an amazing talent! But be warned, I may be mannerly but I have a bad habit of ripping souls apart... I don't exactly socialize well..." Janice said slowly loosing her smile with a hollowing laugh. She flinched remembering how she had snapped at some of the guards and other stallions in the herd, let alone how she woke in the middle of the night screaming bloody murder before running off to be on her own. Janice shook her head, 'Time heals all wounds... she thought to herself.

Janice's ears pricked forward as she herd Eiru's words, "The storm is here." she said just after the storm picked up, sending the wind strong against them all. The snowflakes no longer danced from the sky and instead no were barreling down from it now instead. Janice squinted and she pushed against the wind, frowning knowing this was only the beginning.

_| Eiru |-

Oracle of Olde | Mare | Plains of Olde

The dainty Oracle's ears swiveled backwards to listen to the chattering of the herd behind her, a feeling of exclusion quickly settling in her chest.  They all seemed so close.  The thoughts were swept away quickly as their purpose again took precedence of her mind.  A sigh sent a cloud of fog into the air as she noted just how far they were going to have to travel.  How miserable this trip would be. . .

As if to prove her thoughts right, the icy wind began to pick up, blowing a strong headwind against her chest.  Eiru lowered her head, eyes squinted and ears flattened, a shiver shuttering her slender frame from her neck to her tail.  The lack of a mane was never more prominent than it could be in Winter.  Cold plunged through her thickened coat as it shook in the blast.  The mare raised her nose, straining to see ahead as her tail whipped about like a lasso.  Soft, powdery flakes were beginning to fall, only to rapidly increase in size and number.  The clouds above swirled as if to attest to the trouble they had in store for the little band of Olde members.

She stopped in her tracks, closing her eyes and drawing in a breath.  The storm was upon them, baring down like a wold intent upon it's prey.  Oh unicorns above, let there not be any beasts brave enough to venture in this storm, Eiru found herself thinking.  If any of the horses behind her now were to be injured, it would all be on her.  They were her responsibility.  Never before had she felt such a weight on her shoulders.  Her teal gaze turned on those behind her, worry written in the crinkle of her brow.  "The storm is here," she mumured.  They had only just begun their way, but nature, as it seems, was set against them.

Tem.

Oh, snow. Snow, snow, snow. Usually Tem didn't mind snow that much. It was fun and turned their surroundings into art. Hell, it could completely change a horse's coat and make him or her appear like their more unique brethren. He'd never been forced to trudge through it quite as much and as long as would be the case now, though. Following the large mare in front of him close, he still found it difficult sometimes to find his footing. Lifting his hooves with every step, he looked much like a deer would moving through the meadows, though he didn't feel it. His muscles ached a bit already and his hooves - coated in ice and snow - felt heavy. He was starting to hate the powdery stuff.

"Whoever invented this stuff surely has a mean streak," he commented, making a face. The other horses no doubt had similar issues, but his height did him no favours. So he just followed the taller, more powerful ones and hoped they didn't notice how tiny he felt.

"You can always talk to me, as long as yer sayin nice things." Janice spoke and Tem spared her a smile.

"Oh, I would, but my mouth sometimes runs away with me. Why, I'd probably set out to compliment you in the nicest way possible and then find myself calling you a goat in the same breath. Without meaning to!" He snorted. "It's a talent I have perfected."

"Tansy?" he heard Elian call. Tem's ears swiveled. The other stallion was right next to him and Tem could swear he was having an easier time. Well, okay, maybe he was exaggerating, but his friend was blind and he still looked fine, whereas Tem's nose was freezing because he'd almost toppled forward once and just saved himself.

"Oh, am I being abandoned for fairer friends?" he joked, glancing at both Elian and Tansy. "Not that I blame you, but it does hurt my heart so."

Behind him some horses grumbled, but he just soldiered on and dipped his head. A brown stallion was next to him too and he grinned. "They're just playing hard to get, but you know they think I'm hilarious."

He watched as Elian and Tansy moved forward together. He looked for Arietti and sent her an exaggerated pout. "I think Elian just broke up with me!" he called.

Trotting along - hooves still high - he tried not to get distraught. Even if the herd was feeling down, he'd remain happy and carefree. It was all he could really do.

He gave everyone a brilliant smile, even as some rolled their eyes. He'd force them to be jolly!

Tansy || Vanner Mare

Tansy had still been in a determined manner, a bit ahead of the rest of the trudging horses but suddenly her ears swiveled and flicked backwards to hear her name called out. Arching her thick neck she looked backwards and paused to let the rest of the collection meet up with her, she had not realized she was moving so quickly that she had gone a bit ahead. She didn't really mind but now she stood, almost smiling waiting for Elian who had called out her name. As he reached a few trot paces away she lowered her head and spoke out.

"I'm here Elian"

Her sing-song voice called out towards the blind horse, twitching her tail at annoyance from little flakes of snow that precariously found their way to the ground around them. She waited again as he moved closer and touched his neck with her nose to let him know she was there and began to move beside him.

"Sorry"

She snorted slightly and looked about, now a bit in the middle of the group

"I can lead and clear snow if you need"

The large vanner kept her shoulder close to his, leaning to brush his coat softly to let him know she was right there.

It wasn't easy moving through the snow by any means, but Lukan found he was having an easier time of it than a smaller horse would have. It was times like these he was glad he took after his father enough to be able to carve his path through the cold rather than have to wade through it like his mother would have. Then again she would have probably pulled of a miracle and walked on top of the snow, defying the softness and refusing to sink through. Cold sank into his legs and he feared they would go numb, but still he trailed t fhe back of the traveling group watching for stragglers and anyone needing help.

His eyes flicked to Eiru first. The maneless mare looked half buried but seemed to be doing just fine at the moment. Tem was clumsy, but he hadn't seemed to have fallen yet which was a relief. All in all, the herd seemed to be workimg together already, even Tansy who was a ways ahead. The mare was leaving an obvious path that would be helpful. As his eyes continued to roam over the heard, Lukan paused and looked back.

As he'd expected, Alabaster and Arabella were lost from sight; he was aready worried about the air and missed his friend. You'll see them again. Rearing up, he let out a sharp firm whiney, hoping they would be able to hear it and know it was him. He was very good at goodbyes, but he couldn't leave without one.

Elian

Elian gave a little smirk in reply to Tem, lifting up his head after a little bob. With the multitude of hooves around him, he was able to keep with the group quite easily. So far. Though with all the different hoofbeats, it was hard to decipher who was who.

Unless they were speaking.

Elian stayed quite, just staying near the middle of the group. He concentrated on keeping up, no matter what. His ears pricked ahead, and small little puffs of vapor escaping his nostrils as he breathed. His smirk flattened into an expressionless line, his face directed ahead. Usually when he walked, his mind wandered and pondered, hopping aboard the thought and memory train. But now, with the whiff of a maybe impending war on the chilly air, and the rush and hurry of getting there in time.. His mind was frozen in now.

His eagerness before seemed to chip off as they went. It was replaced by that sinking feeling of worry. He heard Eiru speak, and she seemed confident. They had already set off. No turning back. With the considerable group around him, consisting of his friends, his advisor idol...the worry started to fade again. They had a good group. They would make it.

"Hello Tem. You can always talk to me, as long as yer sayin nice things."

He flicked one ear, catching a female's voice. Or at least he was pretty sure it was. How embarrassed he was when he once supposed female, but it was male. Quite angry they were. Through some nasty words were thrown from him, still in a feminine voice.

He held back a chuckle that raised up from the thought. He had to be serious! And keep his mind focused. He was so easily distracted..

Elian concentrated his senses, trying to find Tansy. Or he could just go the easier way and speak up.

"Tansy?" He nickered to the Vanner mare, moving his head a inch side to side.

Janice smiled softly at Arabella's goodbye. The little mare better make it out of this Alabaster might end up have a new tail ripped into place. Janice nodded in acknowledge the goodbye as she moved on to the other horses.

Janice's ear swiveled over to Tem's direction and she turned to look at the stallion and she manage a small smile, "Hello Tem." She said before she laughed softly, "You can always talk to me, as long as yer sayin nice things." She said a small smirk playing onto her lips. She was getting better at this... And that was good because Janice hated the idea of letting her past rule over her present self. The idea made her want to colic.

Janice turned her head back to see if Coolar, she thought that was his name at least was coming, and in surprise she saw him starting to follow after Alabaster and Arabella. She was a bit disturbed at this but at least now Arabella was a bit safer. Janice shook her head and faced forward again, it was too late to look back now. She looked ahead, the snow was dancing from the clouds all the way down to where the horses walked, if the sun hit one of the flakes just right it seemed to shimmer infront of Janice's bare eyes. She smiled softly to herself, the bueaty in this world was amazing. It was not too soon before Janice's smile whipped of her face in rememberence at the threat of war. She prayed that the way would be easy, but in reality she knew that wasn't to be.

"Arabella-is-not-going."

Each word seething out of Alabaster's mouth had Cooler shrinking a hand or two, his shoulders hunched and his ears flat in submission. Well. Okay. His eyes were wide and they hurt from the icy sting. He blinked them just in time to hear how he'd disappointed Alabaster. He kept his closed.

"I am sorry. It was just-a-just a...suggestion. If you're sure she will be safer here...how foolish of me to assume you would let her go."

Cool Runnings still thought Arabella would be safe with the rest...but now there was a shadow of doubt in his mind. Surely the entire rest of the herd could not be in the wrong? Then again...perhaps Alabaster was thinking outside the box. That had to be it. There had to be reasoning behind his decision even if Coolar wasnt sure of what it was. Alabaster could be reckless, Coolar would admit that (not out loud of course) ...but not with stakes so dire.

"I don't think we'll be needing your company."

Nobody could see the young stallions heart shatter into a million pieces, but boy did he feel it. Coolar sulked another two hands and made the mistake of watching Alabaster walk around him, because he only got some snow kicked in his face, which resulted in an automatic shake of his neck and mane...and another shake because his mane didn't seem to be helping. Coolar lowered his head and lifted his knee to rub the snow (re: tears) from his right eye.

Then he just stood there. He did not know what to think. Alabaster had never been angry at him, at least not for any decision or debate involving the herd.

Coolar watched the herd as they began to disappear. He knew they were not far off yet, but the air was that dense. A quick glance around and he noticed he was going to be left alone if he did not make his personal decision. He sighed and shivered, though not particularly because he was cold. Coolar could hear the malice of Alabaster's voice echoing in his skull.

"Perhaps it would be good for you...and see just how right I am."

Coolar stood up straight and took only one grounded step in the direction of the herd. No. Whether Alabaster was right or wrong (and he legitimately was not sure which), he could not in good conscience leave him and Arabella alone here.

Cool Runnings turned and trotted back in the direction of Arabella and Alabaster, although he followed a few good paces behind, less he get kicked with more snow. Gosh, his entire head felt painfully heavy.

“I wish you would come too.”

Alabaster watched with a hint of longing as the beautiful mare, Arietti, strayed away. What would become of her in all this chaos? He wished dearly that she would stay with them, but it was clear her mind was set. He’d never witnessed the chirpy mare defy her own father as she did then. He could only hope that she survived the ordeal looming before her.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alabaster came to an abrupt halt, his route blocked by a fairly bulky, dark figure. Coolar. Was his apprentice was here to defy him yet again? He agreed to Alabaster’s flawless wisdom and wanted to join him in guarding the pool, but he also wanted to let Arabella join the others. How very contradictory.
“I thought I had made myself very clear.” The snowy stallion said; his tone unbearably icy. “Arabella-is-not-going.” He growled slowly, narrowing his dark eyes and flattening his ears to his skull. “Promising youth you are, as well as my own student, I expect more from you, Cool Runnings. You disappoint me.” Alabaster said, a frown as deep as the ocean sagging his features. “I don’t think we’ll be needing your company. Perhaps it would be good for you to get out and about with the others…and to see just how right I am.” He snorted, swerving around the large equine and kicking up the freshly fallen layers of snow. “Arabella!” he called again, looking over his shoulder and beckoning for her to follow. He didn’t want the others to sneak her away with them.
Arabella
Arabella watched as the horses slowly faded in the snow. Letting out a soft sigh she could see a big cloud forming in front of her face. The little filly smiled at the clouds, at least that made her think about something else than seeing her herd-mates leave. Once the cloud faded as well, she could see the last horses of the Olde herd fading in the snow.
Arabella's ears dropped down slightly as she watched them leave, it made her feel sad and wished she could go with them and see new things but she would never dare to leave her family behind in a place like this, or even in such a cold weather.
The little creamy filly trotted towards her uncle, sending snow flying away after her. "Coming uncle Alabaster!" Arabella said as she slowed down to stand next to her white-colored uncle. She tried to press herself against him to keep herself warm, the storm had turned even more strong and wild. The snow landed on her back, tail, mane and face making her start to shake a bit from the cold drops of white snow.
"U-Uncle Alabaster, what are w-we gonna do now?" Arabella asked with a shaky voice.
Alabaster
Alabaster was well aware of Cool Running’s trailing slowly behind, but chose to ignore him. It was certainly good he had chosen the smart way, the Alabaster way, but why had the others overlooked him and his genius? He was so irritated! Irritated with everyone and their stupid decisions, the wretched circumstances, and the ominous tension so thick overhead it was nearly tangible! It was as though he was walking through a thick fog at the edge of a gaping abyss! What was to become of them? Well at any rate, they would be plenty safe right here, away from all the action and scary new things.
“Don’t worry little one.” He cooed, surprisingly calm when compared to his inner turmoil. “You’ll be safe here with me and Cooler.” He said, flicking his tail dismissively at the larger stallion. “For now, let’s find you a snack, and then we can all head to the grove for a little nap.” He nickered, smiling faintly. This wouldn’t be too hard! They could survive on their own! Loners did it all the time. Trotting a short distance away, he eyed a spot in the snow with intense scrutiny, as though he could see what lay beneath. Taking a deep breath, he lifted a pretty black hoof, and with a mighty effort…tapped the snow. A small dent could be seen in the otherwise smooth surface. Normally he would just use his muzzle to push the snow away in search of the grasses and leaves beneath, but the surface was crusted with ice. Lifting his hoof, he thrust another dainty dent into the snow. Unicorns forbid he strike anything beneath and chip a hoof! One must be careful when searching for food!  “Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing!” The white stallion reassured the others.
It went on like this for a while, and when he finally reached the frozen earth beneath, his heart sank. Nothing but a shriveled yellow blade and a mouthful of stones. At least I didn’t strike a rock. was all he could think. By this time, the storm had picked up, and he could hardly see beyond his own nose. “I…uh… think we’ll have to skip snack time this time around!” Alabaster said, shouting over the wind. “How about we go to the grove to wait out the blizzard.” He suggested. Suddenly he frowned, swiveling his head this way and that. Which way was the grove? He couldn’t see through this blizzard!
Arabella
Arabella felt the cold strike once more her side as her uncle moved forward. She could feel the drops of snow hitting against her side like tiny teeth, the feeling of cold made her shiver and her legs started to shake as well. There was already a small pile of snow on her back and little snowflakes clinged from her mane and tail. The little filly looked down, she had never experienced this kind of weather, never in her whole life. She had heard stories of some horses telling how it was when it came to winter, how crude and hard it could get to be, but she had never thought it could be this hard.
Closing her eyes, she tried to imagine herself in a warm place, a meadow filled with colorful flowers perhaps? She could see herself running through a grassy, sunny field alongside her parents. They had stopped to rest and they were laying on the grassy ground, covered with flowers of all kinds. They were all cuddled together and little Arabella could feel the warmth of her parents, their sweet words, their soft chuckles...
The little cream filly gave a small smile, but suddenly a cold blizzard trapped them in the meadow and Arabella felt lost in the middle of nowhere. She tried to call her parents but there was no answer. The only sound to be heard was the sound of the blizzard and the little Arabella's teeth shaking violently.
“Don't worry, I know what I’m doing!”
Arabella suddenly opened her big blue eyes hearing the voice of her uncle and looked around, she could barely see Alabaster's white shape with all the snow, it was hard to tell where he was standing exactly for her. She took a few steps forward and shook the snow out of her face. Now she could see more clearly, she could also make out the young stallion, Coolar's shape in the middle of the stom but it was still hard to see. Arabella let out a long sigh and looked up in the cloudy sky. "Unicorns, if you can hear me, please help us..." The little filly said in a soft, low voice.
Alabaster noticed his niece speak to the sky and began to worry. He couldn’t hear her over the wind and wondered for a moment if the frigid temperatures were messing with her mind. “Come along!” he shouted over the raging gales. “I think I see some trees in the distance!” he lied, straining to be heard over the wind. Alabaster struggled through the storm and snow to reach his niece’s side and guide her blindly in one or the other direction. He could hardly tell if he was walking straight! The pale equine could feel the poor filly shivering beside him, despite his best efforts to block the worst of the storm. He lost sight of Cooler, but realized with dismay there was little he could do but hope the larger stallion caught up with them.
After what felt like an eternity of pointless struggles against the blizzard, something dark loomed out of the blinding whiteness a short distance ahead of them. At first Alabaster was hopeful…had they stumbled upon the grove after all? But when they reached the object, he found it to be a most disappointing tree. A leafless oak, its trunk only half as wide as he was long. Hardly proper shelter, but it was better than nothing. Shivering himself, Alabaster pressed against Arabella, trying his best to shelter her from the worst of the weather. “We’ll just wait it out here!” he shouted through chattering teeth. He eyed the tree carefully, disappointed to see its rough bark gnawed away. It wasn’t very tasty, but would have at least provided some nourishment. They hadn’t been alone even a day, and already he was having trouble!
Arabella did her best to follow her uncle without sinking in the snow. She couldn't believe how muc difference there could be between some minutes! She gave her uncle a quick look and closed her eyes then followed him, hoping they would find the grove and maybe get to eat something. The thought of being in a warm place, it was the best she could do to keep herself calm and stop focusing too much on the cold she was feeling.  She felt her uncle stop and opened her eyes, only to see a leafless, tall oak. Oh, how much Arabella wished that if she closed her eyes and opened them again, the oak would be full of fresh leaves.
The little filly took a step forward and looked around, where were they? Were they lost? Where did the rest of the horses go? With all the blizzard it was hard for Arabella to orientate her. She sighed and stood in front of the tree to take a closer look. Arabella could notice that the bark was gnawed, and it surely didn't look too tasty. The little filly let out another sigh, but this time a longer and silent one. She watched it fade quickly and go away with the wind, Arabella's ears dropped down slightly as she looked back at the oak.
But, Arabella still had hopes. She was sure that her uncle would get her and Coolar out of this cold place, guide them into a shelter with food and place to rest... She had faith in him.
Arabella walked past her snow-covered uncle and slowly layed in the cold snow, next to the leafless tree. It barely covered her whole body, but at least it would shelter her a bit. The snow felt too cold for her, she wanted to jump and flee from the snow, hopefully even fly, but her legs were too tired to even stand on them. She just wanted to get a little rest, but her legs would have to cooperate later...
She looked up at her uncle, looking at him with her big blue eyes. She had no idea of what was going to happen but she was sure that her uncle Alabaster would get her out of this, she was sure of it. Arabella let out a low snort and layed her head in the freezing cold snow, waiting patiently until her legs rested for a bit.
Alabaster watched his niece anxiously, his stormy grey eyes brimming with worry.  There was little he could do but stand, stooped against the wind next to the old oak as she tottered about through the snow. After a while of this, his knees began to stiffen from the cold and he felt bone-tired from the wind beating against his flank and threatening to topple him. He shuffled closer to the filly and carefully, painfully, staggered down into the snow, nestling next to Arabella. Exhausted, he began to drift off, hunched against the freezing gales.
He didn’t remember falling asleep, but when he opened his eyes, something was definitely different. Alabaster waited, ears swiveling, eyes darting this way and that. The wind had stopped! The snow was still falling, but much lighter than before, peaceful really. Snorting gratefully, the white stallion pushed himself upward, a heap of snow cascading from his back. He’d practically been buried alive! His joints were stiff, and he noticed an immediate drop in temperature as he staggered onto all fours. Snow was an insulator, but now he was exposed to the chilly open air.
Looking to the sky, he couldn’t quite tell the time, the sky a mass of cloudy grey.  His stomach rumbled. Either way, he need to find food before the two of them starved. “Arabella.” He murmured gently, nudging the young filly. “It’s time to go. We need to search for food and Cool Runnings.”
Arabella
Arabella shook her head, sending out big amounts of snow flying in all directions. The little filly could feel her whole body almost as cold as the snow. She slowly stood up, her thin legs shaked as she tried to stand in her four limbs. Arabella's joints ached, she actually wanted to scream and try to imagine herself in a warm place were she wouln't feel any cold, or even hungry, but she knew she would have to deal with it until the winter was gone.
Looking around, she could see that the blizzard had become more calmed, but it was clear that it wouldn't last for too long. Arabella could still feel some icy, strong winds that stroke against her but they weren't as fierce and wild like before. The little creamy filly shook the snow out of her body and looked around her, hoping to find Coolar and at least some shelter or food, but the only things she could see with her bright blue eyes were her uncle Alabaster and the leafless oak. She sighed and trotted towards her uncle and pressed against him. The only thing she could do rigt now was search, hope, and pray to the unicorns that they would find a comfortable place to rest and maybe a shrub or a tree with fresh leaves... Oh, the thought just made Arabella's mouth water.
Arabella's stomach started to growl a bit, perhaps she shouldn't think about food right now... Just focus on finding Coolar, what had happened to him? The little filly gulped down nervously as she looked at her uncle. "U-Uncle Alabaster, where's Coolar?" She asked in a soft voice.
Coolar wasn't far behind the two, but in this weather a good yard in any direction one was facing vanished into a thick white void. Coolar's face hurt from the wind, so he kept his head down. Also, he was still quite ashamed of himself. For exactly what, he wasn't sure- but the reason no longer mattered. What mattered was Alabaster being upset and disappointed in him and then how their separation from their herd would effect them, even if be indirectly.
"I'm here, Bella". Came an equally meek voice from behind the younger filly. He nudged her flank with his nose lightly in reassurance but did not dare step ahead of her.
