He got it when he was president...it was a lonely job...ya' know, with two of you kids (out of three) and your wife dead. I mean, don't get me wrong, James and Dolly, the Carr's and all his grandchildren were always hanging around, but sometimes you need someone to just talk to alone. He let Dick (the mockingbird) fly all around his presidential office place, and taught it all sorts of tricks. Once he even called an emergency meeting with the ambassador of (France was it? I don't remember...), only to show him that he taught Dick to feed out of his lipps O.o... that ambassador must have been really pissed......

That's wonderful! I love hearing these little character notes on historical figures- it makes them seem more human than just a name in a history book.

I just realized I totally didn't comment on why I liked the picture...

So my favorite thing about it is how you can barely see the shadows of the two people, and how they are clearer at the top than at the bottom. It sort of reminds me of fog in a swamp. Which is pretty freakin' cool.

The picture is actually a companion piece to a short story I was writing at the time, about a woman who gets murdered in an alleyway for cheating on her husband. I deliberately gave neither of them names, referring to her simply as 'the woman' and him as 'the figure'. I tried to show that in the picture by making them silhouettes in the darkness.

Perhaps... I wanted to keep the silhouettes simple, though- you know, with no stray hairs and stuff flapping about...
