Description Not selling batponies

...
Foreigner exited into the streets of Batpony Market. Adjacent to the harbour of Nilly River, every road leading here went downhill, which reinforced the feeling of flowing into the poorest part of town.
Yet still, the business rooted here generated many bits. Many atypical goods, meeting the demand of batponies, sold every night. Namely fish to satiate their carnivore appetites but more importantly, sunglasses. An accessory no batpony can miss. In fact, this is the product which had originally attracted zebras and camels here, because they too appreciate some filtering layer against the most intense sun in the scorching deserts. Zebras founded alchemy, herbalist and charm shops while the aroma of camel tobacco soon lead even more customers by their noses. Trade flourished and business-ponies protected their income well. It soon became advantageous for both the mischievous and malevolent troublemakers to seek employment, dwell in the shadows of booths for a change instead of criminal hideouts.
...

What's actually going on:
Chapter 4: The Foreigners    For our next story, we will move onto an individual yet to be introduced. A new face, not just for you but all the camels, giraffes, zebras, ponies and batponies of Cartiro. Stay calm now, no need to get rowdy! You may still find a few familiar faces or locales in the following paragraphs.
The name of our next character ... well, we will just call him Foreigner. Coincidentally enough, that is how he introduced himself upon entering a fish shop. Clearly a common orange-coated pegasus by his appearance. A short turquoise tail and mane. A bandanna on his head and a cloak, haphazardly tied, hanging by his left side, but that is just too flattering. Honestly, it seemed like he fell from a low hanging cloud and turned a dusty old carpet into a makeshift 'half-robe'. In other words, a typical apparel for somepony poor who, for some obscure reason, decides to wear something, anything, to feel fancy.
The fishmonger would have thrown him out. N

One word: Perspective, it looks great!

The fact that the foreground has lines and the background is mainly pencils gives a lot of depth, yet everything still fits together. Maybe it’s the sky reaching the edge of the paper in the upper right corner? Or the glasses covering part of the sky?
I do wonder what the red and gold building with the tower is...

Yes, pictures like this would be an incomprehensible mess without the lines. But the thing which makes this really work is the lighting. the foreground is in the shadow so it is much darker in comparison to the opposite side of the street. If the lines fail, the contrast makes sure things are clear. If I had to draw it all bright, I am not sure the glasses would be so distinct against the sky, for instance.
In fact, the lines fail a lot of times if you look at my previous works of this style. I have no idea how to put a lot of things into a picture and make it all clear. There's often too much chaos.

The building with the gold spire and red outlines is a style a stitched together for buildings used by the servants of Solar Flare, my slightly evil Celestial Empress. You can see similar towers in my other pictures. I wanted them to keep some semblance of the colourful, fairy-tale-ish style of Canterlot but make them a bit more intimidating and militaristic, so I added red metallic parts to them.

For some reason when I first glanced over it I thought those hanging goggles were bras, my mind is clearly stupid sometimes xd Love the atmosphere in this one!

Naughty imagination, eyyyyyyyy?!

Well, mind does play its tricks. Glad you like the atmosphere. That's my goal, to create an atmosphere of a city street in these pictures. Make it immersive and alive. Make you imagine what could be around the corner.

Not as many ponies as in your pictures but sometimes, less is better. Wanted to draw some other animals, like a dog or a bat.

Very well detailed, like the idea of the Batponies having their own semi back alley bizarre. Likely a good place to pick up merchandise the Imperial authorities would frown on. Also, the sunglasses storekeep's dog is adorable. BTW, selling sunglasses to batponies in a desert area is pretty business savvy. Good teaser pic, my friend.

That is something I devote a paragraph to in my next chapter. Just something a bit more to further illustrate the atmosphere of the city. Sunglasses will play a critical role in it, actually. It really is business savvy. Turns out it's not just batponies who would want sunglasses.

I will try to finish the rest as soon as possible, but I am having a bit of trouble with changelings. Let's not beat around the bush, if Cadence is there, of course there are changelings around the corner! I am struggling a bit with their dialogue. I want them to be primitive and less vocal. A hive mind would not need speech. Some of the more individual spies do talk like normal ponies but the others, I need to figure out some sort of speech pattern or style for them. A guardian changeling would not speak the same way as a spy among ponies in my opinion.

Interesting idea on the way Changelings talk. We did hear Chrysalis speak normally, so presumably the royalty/leadership caste are on the same mental level as ponies. Agreed that the spies should be able to talk normally as well, as they'd need to blend in and pass for a local. For a primitive dialogue stile, maybe you could look up clips from Far Cry Primal for insperation, particularly scenes with the Udam, and to a lesser extend the Wenja.

Also, this is just me, but I always liked when some fanfic writings have the changelings use 'ling' like how ponies use...well, pony. 'Everyling', 'someling' that kinda stuff.

Yes, that was the idea. Use 'uga bunga pony crusha' caveman talk. I know how it goes. Everyone in Far Cry Primal has broken English for subtitles. Some to a lesser extent, having only minor grammar mistakes. Except for Urki of course, who just uses a common insano trailerpark dialect.

If I look at Udam, that is how I imagine a guardian or warrior changeling to talk. As for the primitive workers and drones, I imagine they would talk very little, mostly hiss or repeat the same words based on what they feel. Naturally, these won't be the crucial characters we follow so mostly, I have to figure out the way each of these individuals would talk. Even a spy would mumble words without restrains or misunderstand some concepts of pony society, I'm sure.

Oh, Urki, I swear I heard stuff like 'badass' and 'bro' mixed in with his dialogue. Fun fact, Ubisoft has confirmed that he's an ancestor of Hurk.

It's actually kinda fun to see a scene where a changeling spy drastically misses the point of something, or just fails to blend in, via that Steve Buscemi meme.

He might not fly or have skin or stone, but he must be the most adaptive creature of this planet to continue his legacy for millenia to come.

I'll see what I can come up with in chapters to come. I actually already move forward with some of the dialogue. With luck, it won't take too long now.

Thanks, I sometimes overdo it with details, but I think this picture is just right.
