Description Mac Gargan is a character that I really liked first because of his origin and then because of the way he developed the following decades. Regarding his origin, there's always an aspect that I find so attractive, which is the theme of manufactured superhumans, seen in stories like Weapon X and the whole Ultimate universe. Gargan by himself was not that much interesting to me until his time as Venom with the Dark Avengers, specifically his solo series The Sinister Spider-Man, by Brian Reed. Chris Bachalo and Rob DiSalvo. That four issue miniseries made me know how Gargan thinks and what are his beliefs, finally learning what makes him one of the better dark reflections of Peter Parker alongside Eddie Brock.

For the design I worked from his first more archaic suit, all green and with a mask that shows the eyes and mouth. From there I wanted to try something I've had on my mind for a long time, and that is "what it would look like if someone created an armor using the technology from Doc Ock's arms", Linking this idea to Scorpion came from reading the Ultimate Spider-Man Clone Saga from Bendis and Bagley, where we see a new version of the scorpion that, without spoiling too much, is a sort of combo between Spidey and Doc Ock, hence the mechanical tail. Since I'm making a sort of new personal canon with these illustrations, for Gargan I like the idea that when Dr. Farley Stillwell designed his suit of armor, he used blueprints from Otto Octavius arms, which explains how the tail works so well. Also, I like to think that Stillwell had an assistant during this process: Alistaire Smythe, the son of his old friend from college Spencer Smythe. His work with Stillwell would serve as the basis for his future Spider-Slayers.

As for Gargan, like in the comics, the process that gave him his powers would end up making his whole genetic structure unstable, and he now needs the suit to stay alive, much like the version of the Green Goblin from The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Later in the future he might get the Venom symbiote, who knows.
