I'd love to be a taxidermist but the whole removing the insides is too much for me not to mention the smell.

Most pelts used for taxidermy come pre-tanned (aka leather); no smell/insides etc., that's dealt with in earlier stages during the skinning/tanning.

Well I don't mind it, as long as they are not killed for that, that they were taken when they were dead.

Those humans were already dead, right?! Did they at least get permission from the family and/or the person while they were dying?
Because if not, that's just sick!

I know it does, but that's for science usually.
Nah, just use fake fur and leave the animals alone, if they die leave them for the rest of nature to use, other creatures probably need fur more than we do

Little-rolling-bean In reply to LastMinuteDotCom [2016-04-22 03:48:15 +0000 UTC]
But other than weasels, animals do not use the furs. I believe we should not waste beautiful animals and make use of their bodies, because just because they are dead does not mean we cannot love and look after them.
Taxidermy can be used for science too though, like figuring out the anatomy of an animal.

I said I'm 50/50 on the situation,
like I agree with taxidermy animals that have passed away and is they're rare or extinct, preserve their bodies for museums or science.

You do not have to like anything though, I just like getting into debates about taxidermy, as I like it a lot and I feed on different opinions.

I hate how most taxidermists think they are treating animals with respect by stuffing them and putting them on display after they die... do you even KNOW what riots would be caused if the same thing was done to humans? If they were stuffed/skinned then put next to your hearth for some deco? "It's just skin Steven!" (sorry I just had to xD)
Usually all taxidermists reply with "oh yeah well the animals are dead already, why should they care?" when asked why they believe what they are doing is morally correct
I'm not religious, but I do believe that if something is dead you give it that last bit of respect and bury it and not just make it your newest home furnishing! Animals are not less superior than humans, they had personalities and 'souls' when they were alive too.
What has humanity come too? Absolutely revolting, at least to me.
My grandfather does taxidermy, he had me watch him make a soft mount when I was younger... I can only say I ended up extremely sick, retching and all. How is this FUN for people? Sadism, if you ask me.
I apologize for my rant, but I really feel like I need to get that off my shoulders.

but sadism and taxidermy are nothing alike??
Could you please explain what you meant by saying that taxidermy is sadism?

My grandfather shot the animals himself. Just to taxidermy them. There are some taxidermists that stuff already dead animals, but some go out of their way to kill them.

Troublemute In reply to Limelines [2016-02-20 13:56:17 +0000 UTC]
just to taxidermy them? The taxidermy we have in our house (two deer heads and antlers) were shot and killed for the meat, not for the sport, so I've never heard of killing them just to taxidermy.
I mean, if someone commissions their dead pet to become taxidermy then I can understand, but I guess I prefer it when other parts of the animal are used as resources and not just to look pretty, unless they cant be used.

It's called trophy hunting, where people just kill the animal to stuff it, sort of like a "prize" for what they've kill.
And a lot of animals like extoci birds went extinct or nearly extinct because women wanted them for fashion purposes.

There are many different mediums that go into taxidermy. You need sewing skills to hide your seams, painting skills to recreate the nose/ears/eyes/beaks, sculpting skills to get the anatomy right, carving skills if you are making your own forms...There is a lot of art that goes into taxidermy, but most people just see that it is a dead animal that's been mounted and dismiss it as quickly.
If you look into the process, you'll find it's a lot more difficult than just putting a hide on a form, and that it is, indeed, an art form all in its own right. C:

So...? If it's illegal in many countries, it shouldn't be art.

Where is it illegal? I know certain animals are illegal to have/ship due to conservation or other statuses...but I've NEVER heard it's illegal in a country as a whole.
And no matter what you personally think, it will always be an art.

Like I said, nothing to say to you if you refuse to even write a complete sentence or listen. You're too immature to even debate with; all you can say is "no"? Not sure why you even felt the need to post on here, maybe you were just trying to start drama. Good luck with that and your close-minded ways ^^
