Description a drawing assignment from last week where we had to create an eerie or mysterious picture from an aerial viewpoint.
uh...its not really mysterious or anything, but oh well. the hills are a little sharp and the class didn't like the straight up borders, but it was fun to do nonetheless!
EDIT- and now i can see why they didn't like them as much. the pure back throws off the mosr subtle contrasts like woah.

it also had to be done in black ink only. ink is so much fun to paint with!
it probably would have helped to put windows on the castle

Amazing did you do this off the top of your head O_O. I really like how you framed the piece, it kinda makes you feel that you've stumbled across this scene through a gab in the forest trees.

I love the sense of depth to this--and I think the "straight up" borders give it an additional frame, which reinforces the idea that you're looking IN to something.

Great job!

i like the black borders of the trees, makes it seem like something or someone is peering out from a dark forest down at the castle

I think the lack of windows actually makes the castle more foreboding, since, to me at least, it conjures up thoughts of imprisonment and danger. You have to ask yourself, "what kind of purpose would a place like that serve?" or, "What sort of person/creature would live in a building without windows?" I also like the border (I'm assuming they were referring to the trees?). I think the way that the trees frame the valley and the castle makes the piece all that much more frightening. The contrast between the blackness of the overlooking forest with the cold white of the castle and surrounding area is very effective and dramatic. It's like there's some terrible creature peeking out from the woods at the world below, which is terrifying in its own, different way.

I have to admit, I like the side border trees, it gives it that 'mysterious' feel for me in that it's like peering from behind them~ anyway, this is gorgeous, such amazing detail and perspective <3

Well, it's not very simple to make something eerie with an aerial view, because it shows almost everything of the subject...
At least you had fun.

very cute! i like it a lot.

i enjoy how very soft you can make the shading, yet at the same time it retains it's detail and feeling.

great job

I think it fits the bill...I love snow![helps that it's so hot here atm,!]
But I like the steepness.....looks vaguely sinister...& the lack of windows makes it seem like someone is imprisoned there?Or it's a sorceror's tower?Could be any number of reasons!I love it!

I think the boardering trees go a long way in making this feel kind of eerie and mysterious. I feel like I must either be peering between these trees because I'm hiding, or that the trees are closing in on me.
They also help stop me from falling, falling down into the valley toward the castle--but also indicate that I could fall. Since I am hanging on between these trees I am grounded, the potiential for falling is that much greater (than if I felt like I was removed from the scene in an aerial view).

I like this

I -REALLY- love this and if this place existed, I would most definitely want to visit it. The trees and the mountains in the background just kill me with amazing ;0; I had no idea you were so awesome with landscape-type scenes like this! I am extremely envious and inspired at the same time. <3

I love it ^-^ I like the really steep hills a lot, too - it makes it more interesting, as I haven't seen other things like it. The foggy-ish effect is quite nice too.

Awesmoe perspective. Such a small piece that captures the vastness of a region. The canyon walls you must view it between is what truly makes one feel uncomfortable, lovely addition.

That is mysterious...I almost feel like I have been questing for a long time in those forests for it...then all of a sudden my troupe and I stop and, I state, out of breath "Ladies and gentleman *pant*...the castle."
....yeah....I make up random/odd stories for a lot of different pictures X3

I think it looks perfectly spooky. I can imagine some sort of terrible beasty or monster hiding in a cave on the hill looking down on the castle! very nice.

I think it does kinda have that ethereal feeling to it, a little bit out of touch with reality, but it still looks well grounded into it as well. The black and white does well to add to over-all the feeling of this. I like the way you did the trees on the distant mountian too, I struggle with those kinds of effects.
