Oohkay, here we go. I've been meaning to finish this for ages.First off, entry for 's contest themed skulls, stitches and screws. Ends on the 31st.
Anyhow. I got this concept in my head like three days after she posted the journal for the contest, and sketched it on a neon-yellow post-it note. Stayed like that for up until sometime last week when I finally decided to begin painting it. It didn't turn out exactly like I wanted it to but I'm still pretty pleased. I was trying out a new painting style and I'm pretty fond of it, but I kind of ditched it three-quarters of the way through because I was running out of time. Spiffed it up with some overlayed textures and added some details.
Interpret how you like. Actually, share them. I'm interested.

Do you wish for a critique? Very interesting picture overall, must say my favorite would be the skull on the creature lowest in the picture. You gave that skull more detail and form (more of a finished look) than the rest and it holds in more character. The others, including the one with the deer antlers, doesn't seem to hold nearly as much personality and completed look than that one. Overall, very well done job.

I'm most fond of that one too. When painting it, I felt more attached to that skullhead than I did to the main one, even though I focused more on the main since it's the focal point of the image.

I actually thought this was one of skulldog's arts at first. It looks a lot like her style.
Pretty awesome though, even if the concept is a bit beyond me. (The best I can do is a weird satan-worshiping cult meeting) Love the atmosphere too.

First off I want to say the lightning in this picture is epic. Especially on the deer skull. lovelylovely creatures they are!
A certain threat goes out from that deer. Though the first thing that came to my mind was that he's getting prepared to vanish from the earth. Like these skulls are just souls that sort of clinged to their bodies when they died, not ready to leave the earth yet, and are now stuck into a body that's decaying, rotting away. It's driving these once so mighty beasts mad, turning their anger into rage against the living. So they kill, waging war against those who've breath and blood left, seeing nothing but their own poisonous jealousy. However, this particularly mighty looking deer seems ready to accept that he needs to go, and wants to die with the little pride he has got left. His companions are helping him to dress for the ceremony but the guy at the bottom seems to have evil plans, taken over by his own agony, he can't bear the deers acceptance.
Hmm, now I know this isn't a very plausible story, but I just needed to write it

It is beautiful and so epic looking. I love how the creatures seem to go up in a tower, The being that is highest has such an almost regal and overpowering presence about it. I really love the way you did the colours in this piece too and the creatures are all wonderful. The shading on their skulls is amazing.
This is what came to mind when I looked at it. The being in the great black robes was once a high ruler (a king or a prince of some sort) however, the creature at the bottom has shattered his throne and framed him in a way that has had him sentenced to death. Now he walks towards the axe while laughing imps disrobe him and the creature bellow waits with gleeful malice. There is such a sorrow in the king's face and it seems like he is looking up for some kind of strength and courage.

The dramatic lighting really adds a dramatic mood to the picture, and it fits perfectly.
The little strokes and lines also give the viewer something to focus on as well as movement. <3
Great color scheme too, this has to be one of my favorites from your gallery! Good luck in the contest as well
As for what I see in the picture, to me it looks like some sort of ritual. The being in front seems to be looking into the future for some sort of clue due to the 'fibers' movement in the atmosphere.
The creature in the back stands tall as its underlings tend to him while the living worlds' future unfolds below him.

My interpretation:
The little ones are stitching up his coat and skin to prepare heem for battle against the army of his nemesis. The little onse are his helpers but low in his military, yeah the big guy is like...the general of an army of skull-capped woodland nymphs. >:3
