[Personal Data]
• Personality:
> Lover of learning: Maddie is the type that is quick to pick up on things and once she falls in love with what she's doing, be it reading about a new spell or learning a new word in a different language, she will give her 110% to know more about it, and she will be fascinated like a child because of it. And she doesn't just stick to books, she will go above and beyond, up a tree, down a chimney if it can help her gain some new insight. To her, learning something new that piques one's interest should always be pursued, not forgotten.
> Uninterested student: ….Unfortunately, this drive for learning is not directed to her school work most of the time. She loves learning, but dislikes studying. If she doesn't find a particular subject interesting, while she appreciates the knew gained information it is very hard for her to motivate herself to learn more about it. Half of the time she only ever does enough work to pass a subject, sometimes she nearly even fails them. She's the type that studies more about things outside the school curriculum, be it something silly or unorthodox, rather than slaving over an essay.
> Whimsical: If anyone has the patience to talk to her, she can be the most amusing conversation partner. She looks at things in a different perspective, and speaks without tact making her a spontaneous character to be around, especially when excited.
> Capricious: Along with her whimsy, however, Maddie can be moody and unpredictable. Jumping from one topic to another, becoming quiet all of a sudden, asking you if you can lend your hand so she can write notes. This moodiness paired with her straightforward way of talking, that can be borderline harsh sometimes, can be incredibly off putting especially towards impatient people.
> Stupidly Curious: and very reckless. She won’t care if she got injured or was breaking a rule. She will eat that mushroom to check if it was poisonous or not. She will unlock that off limits area if she'll get answers from doing so. Sometimes she'll even selfishly drag others in her shenanigans.
> Quietly Perceptive: Maddie, like maybe any Ravenclaw, is very observant, especially to those around her. While this helps her a lot (especially in gauging out if someone is fed up with her antics), if she accidentally discovers something about a peer or notices them having a problem, she will not approach them about it. If they wanted to explain to her, fine- but if they'd rather keep quiet, that's okay too. She believes everyone has a reason for doing something and it should be done in their own pace.
> Bush lady: A complete slob, from her attire to her bedroom. If you want to borrow notes from someone, never ask her- her writing may as well be an ancient code.
> Protective to a fault: She loves her friends and family, and has zero tolerance for bullies. If she even catches wind that someone she cares about was getting harassed, she wouldn’t think twice walking up to the offender and punching them in the face, and all too calmly too as if she was just asking for the time of the day.
> Good natured: Despite her unorthodox ways, tactless way of speaking and violent tendencies, Maddie is not a malicious character. She’s amiable to almost anyone and quickly gets over grudges. She's a pretty mellow person to be around when she's not running off, and she tends to keep it that way; in her opinion, being mad about something for a long time is a waste.
> Knows her self-worth: For someone her age, Maddie has a good sense of self-confidence, not so much as to become arrogant, but just enough to stand by her morals. She is someone that can face forward without care of what others perceive of her and give her opinions very decisively.
> Self-destructive: On the very very rare occasions that she hits rock bottom though, its very difficult for her to get back up. She's someone who is always sure of herself and confuses others more than they can confuse her, so to be confused or question her own abilities- it is so unheard of even she becomes frustrated. In these moments she tends to bottle up her frustrations and keep them to herself. No point telling others since it's not their problem.
**notes: - Even though she loves learning, she's not the type to ramble about her discoveries to anyone- she understands some people aren't always interested/ get bored, and that's okay.
- Becomes unexpectedly shy/quieter when left alone with someone she admires.
- Doesn't ever sugar coat her words, she'll mean what she says and says what she means.
- She has naturally droopy eyes- so depending on what she's doing she'll usually look like she's sad or in a daze (or if she's really focused on something, super serious) that's just a default look, she's usually very friendly.
• Background:
Family and Childhood
Born to two loving parents, Maddie is the second child and only daughter of a Jonathan and Claire Ridgell, along with an elder brother, Felix, and a younger brother, Charles. From the stories she heard from her father's relative's, she often heard her parent's love story as something that was incredibly sweet and endearing, and yet at the same time, something painfully bitter.
The two met in Jonathan’s cafe back in the day and while her mother was a no nonsense type of person, she quickly found herself smitten by her father’s wit and cheekiness and him with her gentle grace. It didn’t take long before they started going out and eventually become engaged. There was just one problem ,however: Jonathan was a squib and to say Claire’s parents were displeased was an understatement. Still, Claire believed everything would turn out okay. For once the quiet, prim girl defied her parent’s wishes.
Despite the drama on her mother’s side of the family, Maddie grew up in a very loving environment. She and her siblings were never neglected by their parents, even with their own lives and businesses to take care of, and they took care not to constantly dote or spoil their children; they explained what needed to explained in the simplest way possible when inquired. So at a young age, she and her brothers had a fair understanding that no, babies did not come from two people shaking hands, yes, they will burn their hands if they touch the stove and no, knocking out someone else's teeth and putting it under your pillow won't trick the tooth fairy into coming at night. And among these inquires, they understod the simple difference of the Muggle world and the Wizarding world. It helped a lot that her father’s cafe was a haven for both wizards and muggles, there was no time for prejudice to form in her young mind because both were an aspect in her life from the very start.
Curious Cat
Being surrounded by books at a young age, and books that were both muggle and magical, it isn’t surprising where Maddie found her love for learning, but she felt sometimes it wasn’t enough. As a child, Maddie became very notorious for causing trouble- be it in the house, or in the elementary school she attended, all for the sake of answering questions that plagued her mind at certain given times. It exasperated her mother that she’d find her only daughter climbing up a tree to see if the baby blue birds were already hatched, or that she was under her blanket late at night riding a book. Maddie was, to say the least, a lovable yet difficult child to keep tabs on.
Eventual Divorce
As the years rolled on, the pressure from Claire’s family was so suffocating it was almost unbearable. She was to inherit the family business, but knew once she was integrated as head of the family, her own loved ones would be subjected to ridicule and criticism, something she did not want to happen. Whenever Maddie and her family visited her maternal grandparents, the atmosphere was always suffocating and unwelcoming, and her relatives venomous comments served to try to alienate them from getting too close to them. A particular event involving Maddie and her siblings made it clear that she didn’t want her husband and children to get pulled into a household full of malice. It was a difficult decision, but both eventually came into an agreement: Felix had volunteered to stay with his mom in the wizarding world, Maddie and Charles would stay with Jonathan in London.
It was a dark time for Maddie, but somewhere along the line she had a feeling her grandparents weren’t ever going to give her family peace until this was done.
Enrollment
One day, at the age of 9, while reading a book in the corner of the cafe, Maddie sneezed and every light bulb surrounding her popped simultaneously. What was thought to be mere coincidence (and maybe some fault wiring) was quickly proven wrong, however, when it happened every time she sneezed. Any light bulb, be it a lamp or a night stand- would just pop. It didn't take long for her father, a witness to these supernatural occurrence when he was but a child because of his magical siblings, came to the conclusion that she was in fact a witch, and he was delighted. She herself was excited, that she'd be able to try out the spells she's read so much about in books. A few weeks after her 11th birthday, she received an odd letter; a letter about her admission to Hogwarts. All she could think about, after stories from her older brother, was that she hoped she'd get into Hufflepuff since they were closest to the kitchen.
First three years
Her unorthodox tendencies were much more welcomed in Hogwarts than they were in her old school (but then again, anyone would be wary if someone chased them around with a frog whilst yelling ‘just hold him down while I scrape off his mucus!’) Although, she surprisingly had a hard time adapting considering it was her first time away from home- the term ‘dorming’ was so foreign. There were bursts of homesickness which she usually drowned with more books.
Now she is much more comfortable in her school, but old habits die hard and she tends to still cause unneeded chaos every now and again.
• Family:
> Jonathan Ridgell [49 years old || Squib || Cafe/ Bookshop Owner]: A quirky man who influenced Maddie's love for learning since he himself joined in her reading sessions and even talked about what he knew about the wizarding world. She looks up to him a lot. The cafe he owns welcomes both wizards/witches and muggles and even carries books from both worlds. He came from two magical parents.
> Claire Hayden-Ridgell [40 years old || Pure-blood || Formerly a Slytherin]: A gentle, timid and yet ambitious woman, Claire was born from a long line of purebloods. Her family owns a magical perfume business. Although she divorced with Jonathan, she still very much loves him. Maddie still has not gained closure from her sudden departure.
> Felix Ridgell [ 19 years old || Half-blood || Formerly a Hufflepuff]: Someone who many of his peers consider as charismatic and well-liked, Felix was very popular during his stay in Hogwarts. He gets fairly irritated with Maddie's antics, but despite his sharp tongue, he is incredibly protective as well.
> Charles Ridgell [10 years old || Half-blood]: Maddie's sickly younger brother. Between his two older siblings, he grew more attached to Maddie for obvious reasons. She generally worries about him a lot and can be a mother hen to him, toning down her dangerous shenanigans when he's around.

Also because of a previous event back when she was still young, Apple does know how to talk a little- but they’re mostly remarks that would normally make him into a deep fried bird if he pisses off the wrong people. But Maddie loves him, so please get along. In times she feels that he's being too mean she won't hesitate to grab him mid air and tell him to hush up. If he can get away with it, he hides in Maddie's hair or scarf and sneaks into her classes.
