I did not read all comments, as "sci-fi" mechs are, I try to look at them with a reality... thumbs up! fpr, form fallows function. Β Because I didn't read it all, how is this proportioned to Β "driver"? Β I.E. an appleseed Landmate , Β Heavy gear, or Gundam, in height?

Great dimensions. I like that you lift your line work, it gives it a sense of work history...

Love it! In fact I like it so much I'm currently working on a video game that uses Mechas. If you are interested in this idea maybe you can contact me. My Email is Slayermaster93@hotmail.com I hope you will be curious in Game Artist Design. Who knows maybe with your work the game can gain profit and you can also.

Perfect. If looking for critique, re do the shield. doesnt compliment well with the mech. Larger, indentation for gun placement, heck even throw in a view port for style #1 rule for mechs: form with function.

this is so fking good!!!
It looks great but I would like to see one drawing that would give a realistic look at mech and what it could be done with todays technology...

There's a certain life that you kind of lose without the base linework, I agree. This design is wonderfully slick, definitely needs to be in a comic or something.

Their a particular place your mech skill comes from? I am trying to get into mechs, but I am missing something :/. My perspective skill is still kinda bad but i never have a picture for more than couple hours before I am like wow, this is bad.

Okay, so I work directly into Photoshop using a Graphics tablet. I think at the time I drew this one I was still workign with photoshop 7, so the latest version is NOT a necessity.
I start with a really rough sketch to work out a figure's general position, pose, proportions etc. In photoshop I then add a new layer so I can sketch over the top of my original drawing. I make the first drawing much lighter and work over it, adding details and sharper lines.
Basically I repeat that process, with each layer becoming cleaner and more precise.
In this drawing I left an earlier sketch visible as grey lines beneath the final black outline.
Better example of this process can be found here:
[link]
A much more recent piece, also including colour, but it shows the steps I take fairly clearly.
hope this helps.

Terrific work. I just want to point out that the gun looks "off" - like it's twisted or something.

Heh, in 5 years no-one has pointed that out, but you're right. Looks like the perspective of the muzzle is off compared to where the barrel meets the main grip/workings of the gun.
Well spotted.

NOt really, no. I love the look of the Tau, but I pretty much grew out of Warhammer as they were introduced so never really gave them much attention.
Thanks for looking.

Tablet. Would strongly recommend using a tablet to anyone exploring digital work. Wacom are a very trustworthy brand and you can pick up some good things second hand on ebay. I have been workgin with an Wacom Intuos2 tablet for several years now. It's starting to look pretty tatty, but still allows me huge amounts of control.

No clue.
This has been my most popular deviation from day one. I have no idea how it gets the amount of views it still does. Kinda blows me away that after over 4 years I still have people looking at this every day and faving it almost once a week.
how did you find it?

I didn't look through all the comments so if you already had this pointed out I look like a douche and I'm sorry. His gun looks like Gundam 01's from gundam wing, which by the by has 40 episodes. Sorry to be a snob. /shrug

Yeah. I was properly hooked on G'Wing when i drew this years ago. Had the box set (49 episodes) as was churning my way through it.
Bonus = i was drawing way more mechas, Downside = a lot of them pulled heavily on gundam design as inspiration.
