Description In 2010 I was getting a lot of interest in this old design of mine: [link]

So I decided to redo it into my current style and I did this design: [link]

Then I did some mock-ups [link] and what you see now is the final result! Made to last, the outside and pockets are made of a durable 100% cotton denim and it's lined with 100% cotton flannel. The hardware is brass and contrasting with the denim are leather belt keepers.

In total there are 24 pockets, ranging from 2 1/2" x 4" (6.35x10cm) for the smallest and 9" x 8" (22.8x20.3cm) for the largest. They can hold everything from pencils, rullers, books, notepads, electronics, knives and tools to groceries, newspapers, phones, wallets, tissues, ferrets, etc. etc. etc. There are also numerous Dee rings around the vest for fastening chains, pouches and anything else to your person, all riveted on with a sturdy leather strap. The chunky center zipper came off a military surplus coat and has a long brass pull. The zipper stops at the waist and the vest is split in front and back to accommodate movement and sitting.

I'm 5'8" (172.75cm) tall and have a chest circumference of 35" (89cm), so anyone with similar measurements will fit the vest just like in the photo's. It will fit up to a 37" (94cm) chest comfortably and a taller or shorter height won't make a difference. The vest is 42" (106.5cm)long from shoulder to hem and the hood is actually full enough to keep the rain off your face.

This vest was also very tedious to make and thus I wont be making one like it again. So don't ask me! heh So many pockets I'll have to have ~Lastwear manufacture it or something for the future.

Being that I have commissioned Mr. Stratus before I can at least from an objective viewpoint say that his work is top notch. What I love most about this garment ( and this goes for most of his work ) is that it is a functional garment that finds its place in some in between place of work and play. Which is the exact mindset you want when working.

I planned on buying this garment for my own little workshop, and would have used it for all of my own little artistic projects. But alas I was slightly outbid. All of the pockets would definitely been of help for me, being that I usually need multiple resources in arms length to accommodate my less than linear style.

Absolutely love the hood. I am a fan of hoods and cloaks in the first place. And it gives the garment just enough mystery to make it a imaginative creation.

also

Some of you may be put off by the price of Mr. Stratus' work. But I found that what you pay for is what you get. And that in Mark's case you will get more than you paid for. And you can take it to the bank that his heart and soul was woven in along with the creation of garment.

You'll be hard pressed to find such quality anywhere.

Bravo! And I look forward to your future work.
Inspiring, indeed!

On it's own the vest is of an intriguing design. I can clearly see it going with a range of other outfits. The pockets reminds me of the Square Enix aesthetic of adding numerous add-ons, which I don't find offputting.

With the extra bits included it does show off the capabilities of the vest, however I am a little jealous of the fact that they aren't included in the sale.

All in all I like it, though I don't like it all that much.

I would like to add, that if the hood was removable then I would give it a higher mark. Sorry, personal preference.

I think it sold on ebay for something over $400.oo If I was to actually charge per hour it would be more like a $600.oo vest.

You said and I quote: "This vest was also very tedious to make and thus I wont be making one like it again." Is this true and if it is then what about somebody else making an identical copy and/or replica, etc.

oh, yeah, I've had people ask about making one themselves. All in all, it's a very simple vest that can easily be replicated.

Just put a Dragon Skin Vest underneath this, and give it a more tactical look, and suddenly you have a military commanders uniform.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Marcusstratus In reply to Rexlare [2015-05-04 02:57:48 +0000 UTC]

Yup, I tend to leave my designs more simple to increase versatility. Would be great to see long vests or coats in modern military...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Rexlare In reply to Marcusstratus [2015-05-04 03:11:55 +0000 UTC]

It's a perfect coat/vest for a survivalists. All those pockets are perfect for containing their gear, and so long as the material is strong your're good. And seriously, just slipping a vest with some DragonSkin armor underneath your jacket and put the vest on top! YOU'RE GOOD TO GO!
(only difficult part is getting hold of DragonSkin.)

I keep saying that all the time. Long coats just add this neat look that I can't get over. I really think they should be offered to troopers OR better yet, a modern Surcoat.

Surcoats are what medieval knights would wear over their Chain/Ringmail suits. The sleevless vest with extensions split down the middle and sides below the belt. I could see a soldier wearing a modern surcoat under their tactical vests.

Marcusstratus In reply to Rexlare [2015-05-04 17:10:55 +0000 UTC]

Yup. This long vest is basically a tactical surcoat... just needs a flag and company badges
