Description That couple on the bench are caught in a temporal causality loop!!!:  en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Predesti…
OHHHH NOOOOOEEEESSSS!!

I created a trefoil in KnotPlot:  knotplot.com/download/
Took a strip out of it in TopMod:  code.google.com/p/topmod/
www.viz.tamu.edu/faculty/ergun…
www.viz.tamu.edu/faculty/ergun…
Did some voodoo to it in MeshMan:  www.holmes3d.net/graphics/mesh…
Imported it to Vue Complete 2014:  www.e-onsoftware.com/products/…
Then I rendered it using a Dosch 6kx3k spherically mapped HDRI.
Total poly count approx. 578,000.

Yeah.  I know.  Fascinating.

Thanks for reading all that.
Thanks for viewing and commenting.

Thanks!
It's okay.
They don't know they're caught in a time warp.
They're happy as clams.

nice triquetra, the reflections and transparencies are so well done, how long did this take to render?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mark-Tamaro In reply to tekgfx [2014-04-08 23:58:47 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!  It took about 2 1/2 hours  with 16gb RAM, SSD, i7 2600k CPU overclocked to 4.7.
Blurred transparencies really jack up the render time.  That and going overboard with the  quality settings.

Never thought about stripping stripes from a trefoil
Turms out as a very elegant shape and the most aesthetic component in this (probably German) airport
Just wondering about how to cast a correct shadow on the HDRI background - ist the trefoil placed on a invisible plane that receives shadows?

Grat sculpture - could be real fun for kids to climb

Mark-Tamaro In reply to Schmiegel [2014-04-07 00:02:03 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!
Yes the floor part of the HDRI is mapped onto an infinite plane.
I really wanted to show some caustics on the floor too but I can't get environment mapped global illumination to show any.
I think I'll go back and strategically place a few lights.  A real pain for me to do right but it would be a good learning experience.

Who really likes waiting in Airports?
It keeps the kids busy and happy.

(Oouch - I'm very sorry for alle the typos!)

You're welcome!
Yep, for good caustics it needs one small and bright light source - maybe a HDRI map with a sun would work too. Placing and balancing the light sources always was a pain to me ... can take a few hrs with all the test renders to be done.

Other than the trefoil, that's seriously realistic 3D... I assumed you photomanip'd a lab picture until I read your blurb.
