Description

The Brandenburg is a prominent class of deep space escort frigate operated by the German Weltraumkommando and part of the Pan-Europa Astrocorps. These frigates carry out primarily escort and patrol operations, but also contribute to joined fleet actions of the Astrocorps.

Characteristics
The Brandenburg is one of the longest-serving german frigate classes, having undergone multiple overhauls and upgrades, particularly of its defensive capabilities. It is one of few german vessels relying primarily on barrelled weapons, favoring medium and short ship-to-ship engagement ranges. This configuration is well-suited to engage many of the less developed rogue worlds, creatures, and Confluence client species commonly encountered on the Coreward Chain.

At 300 meters in length, the Brandenburg is one of the largest german frigates, making up for a relative lack of light cruisers in the Weltraumkommando fleet roster. It is often one of the largest vessels assigned to outer colonial bastions and outposts.

Role and Operations
The Brandenburg-class is one of the most prominent deep space vessels on the Coreward Chain, the most populated part of the known web of System Gates. Serving as a convoy escort and patrol ship in many outer colonial sectors and disputed territories, it has gained a reputation as a very dependable craft with high survivability in combat encounters.
It is rarely part of larger operations against major strongholds of the Confluence, as its arsenal isn't well suited to engage the more advanced enemies of the Terran Mandate.

History
The Brandenburg-class was originally conceived as the primary escort of german Astro fleets, powerful and versatile enough to serve on the frontlines of Terran Space. However, technological advancements and overhauls of the main fleet quickly outpaced the Brandenburg and its more integrated design. To avoid the complete obsolescence of the class, the design was purposefully refitted with a more specialized arsenal. This new weapons layout, emphasizing heavy guns and point-defense, allowed the Brandenburg to excel in engagements against the less infamous Slave Fleets of Tyrmedon. Following the decisive defeat of this Confluence client force, Brandenburg-class vessels were assigned to securing the area and later performing escort duties, first concentrated of the Tyrmedon System and later in associated sectors beyond the System Gate.
