The first to return to abandoned shores were the Crown's courageous pioneers. Explorers, traders, and soldiers of fortune reclaimed the lands of old in the name of Fortuna and Victoria. They were appointed sovereigns of those new Caliburn Dominions, a power soon aspiring to reach further for the stars.
Opportunistic to its core, this power values success through alliances, trade, and subterfuge. The Crown guarantees a measure of stability and common law, facilitating a global system of commerce, shared wealth, and information. It is far different than the empire of old, yet draws heavily on those relished symbols and tradition.
United by this one authority alone, the Dominions seize every opportunity to advance their interests among the other powers of the Terran Mandate. Neither despised nor loved by anyone completely, the Dominions are seldom concerned with other's alliances and rivalries. This has made the dominions mediators in many contested regions, both earth-bound and in space.
The people of the Caliburn Dominions live for their frontiers. Be it on the edge of exclusion zones on liberated planets, or among far-flung moons of barely established surveyed systems. Wherever humanity sends its settlers, the Dominion's pioneers are soon to follow. Their expertise and wealth in matters deep space trade are unmatched, and many of their vessels are renown for carrying everything a fledgling outpost might desire.
But no service, aid, or support of the Caliburn Dominions comes free. And further still than their networks of commerce and trade stretches an unwritten web of favors, debts, and secretive relations maintained by the Dominions with authorities of all kinds across the Terran systems.
