Och mann, ich hab nie soviel glΓΌck.

Wie geht dass denn? Also Brennweite 300mm?

Talk about a first step. It's something that interest me a lot too. Did it require a lot of new gear?

Great work!

Wow, I this is so beautiful that I can't find the words to describe.

I've been an astronomy buff for about as long as I can remember, have seen so many pictures of celestial objects: nebulae, stars and the like, and Pleiades strikes me as one of the most remarkably beautiful clusters man has seen. And I just can't believe the quality of this photograph, and how it compares to pictures taken with the best instruments out there... yet as far as I can see you're a nature photographer...which can only add to my bewilderment and appreciate this even more.

great great picture, the sharpness, the focus and the lovely blue. I'm in awe.

Oooh, another one joins "the dark side"

Well done! Have you tried taking calibrating (with darks) and stacking? This may help: [link]
[link]

And for focusing, have you heard of Bahtinov masks? Very helpful, you can make simple ones yourself: [link]

this is very difficult. i used here the live-view function of my d7000 an zoomed in until you see a bright star on the display. then i tried different focus an d take some test pics.

Unfortunately my biggest lense is a 70-300/5.6 -.-' But thanks for letting me know

Extra dark where you are? We have so much light pollution even though I am 45 minutes from the city.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MartinAmm In reply to wh0rem0ans [2011-10-27 18:00:15 +0000 UTC]

yes lkight pollution is a serious problem. i took this shot near my hometown kronach in the franconinan forest. Here in Germany there are just a few places where the milkyway is visible to the naked eye

I live on the east coast of North America. I can go to the mountains to find stars.

MartinAmm In reply to wh0rem0ans [2011-10-27 20:03:03 +0000 UTC]

well, how are the conditions in the mountains? i mean, there is a high population density [link]
here in europe i have to travel to scandinavia to find places without light pollution.

wh0rem0ans In reply to MartinAmm [2011-10-27 22:36:45 +0000 UTC]

Look on that lovely map and find the place along the east coast of North America where there are too many cities ... then go right bellow that and there is a band of dark blue that extends inland. Those are, I think, the Appalachian mountains and the Blue Ridge mountains. Those are the mountains I mean.
