I've seen this scene done many times, but what makes yours so fresh and vivid is the viewpoint. Poor Fang!

HOLY! That's really good. Great effect with not showing Harry and Snape, but showing the hut and poor Fang trapped inside. Adds to the drama... and I bet they would do something like this when they do the movie version of this scene.

Harry still has much to learn, about himself, about the world. As his dear friend Hagrid throws caution to the wind to save Fang, his best friend and dare I say brother, Harry rushes to block Severus' escape. He knows he is no match for Snape, he has spent the entire year marveling at the prince's skill and knowledge, but still he is determined to destroy him here and now. Does he think that his actions will undo what Snape has done? Does he no longer care about his own life? Harry, the Deatheaters are on the run, the danger in the now is to Hagrid and Fang. Dumbledore is now the past, he cannot be returned, leave Snape for the future, when you are stronger...The now is what is important. What can you do now?
I truly love this picture, as it seems to reflect my own feelings about this scene. Forgive me if that was not your intent or similar mind, But I will treasure your illustration in my heart forever.

Wow. Thank you. I'm constantly striving in my art to capture a certain essence of what Rowling writes, to distill the complexities of a character or a scene into a single image. And although its a constant (sometimes frustrating) challenge and I don't feel I'm close to where I want to be artistically, its very nice to know that I've maybe touched a small corner of the feelings stirred up by her writings.

I believe that with this image you are, at the very least, brushing up against your artistic goal. And the fact that we are seeing the scene from a different perspective is key. All the Harry Potter books are just that, stories written from Harry's point of view. Because we, who are used to liturature told with the author's omnipotent knowledge of every character's perspective. Harry Potter's story is more real in that we are only presented one side of the story, one person's observations. Thusly, we get swept up in Harry. JKRowling mentions Fang's danger and Hagrid's deperation as background noise and background action because at that moment Harry is so wrapped up in himself, his anguish and his selfish desire for retribution that he perseives the plight of his friends as an annoyance. And because we, basically, are Harry at this point, we feel that going after Snape is everything right now. If only we could catch up to him and yell at him and curse him, if only we could let him know that he has hurt us more than anyone has ever been hurt before, that's the most important thing in the world. And I'm willing to bet that many of us, because we are so busy being Harry, did not truly take notice of the fire and Fang and Hagrid. Thank you for giving us a different viewpoint. Be Fang for a moment people. I see the saddness in Fang's face, the confusion, as though he is seeing this and thinking, "Harry, my friend, why don't you see me?"
Remember, my friends, to occasionally take a moment to look outside of yourselves.
