Description JUST the basics....

I think I prefer the question pages over the tutorial it's self. The tutorial is all compressed and gross... and there's alot of spelling erroes.... o_____o;

Not bad for 4 hours of work though, if I must say so myself. XD;;;

I made this using parts of your guide!
Small People Mushroom

I think it turned out pretty good considering it looked like this to begin with.
Small People Mushroom - Lines

Make a new layer, and click-and-drag it underneath your lineart (which should be on multiply, otherwise you won't be able to see what you're doing!).

wait...howd you color UNDER the lineart?? o.O when I tried that it wudnt work... :[

MechaBerry In reply to xXPirsonXx [2009-09-02 01:14:14 +0000 UTC]

Cut and Paste the image onto a new layer, and set to MULTIPLY; This makes your white transparent and your black opaque. You make a new layer underneath the Multiply layer, and colour there. :3

thanks for the tutorial...how do you make the brushed curvy like that. like the strokes? i have ps cs4...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MechaBerry In reply to xXPirsonXx [2009-09-01 20:10:03 +0000 UTC]

Like... a circle?... You should be able to adjust it in your brush option. I think the CS series has a right-click option for that...

nice tutorial^_^ yours is the only one i've been able to follow so far>< i'm pretty dense...

one question though, i couldn't do it all in one go cause i had to go out and i saved it but it didn't save all my alyers just the half finished picture, so i've got to do it all over again.

is there any way you can save it so it keeps the layers there the next time you open it up?? i've got elements 4.0 if that makes any difference...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MechaBerry In reply to phin-chan [2007-08-13 22:03:06 +0000 UTC]

You might be accidentally saving it as a JPEG, which isn't what you want. You want to save the file as a PSD. The first save should be "Save AS", this way you can choose your format to save as. Observe here: [link]

When you are finished your CG, save one last time, and then flatten, size down, and SAVE AS again. You then change the format to Jpeg- (should should also afterward get a pop-up about "quality".... move the bar up to maximum. It makes the file size a bit bigger by a few KB, but the quality stays high and you don't get unpleasant pixalating.) PNG works too, but some computers don't support it for some reason.

In the end you have two files: The original file that you can go back and edit, and then the finished one ready for display.

I HOPE That wasn't too confusing! D:

no thanky ^_^ i told my friend about it, (he does arty..stuff on comps) and he was like yeah don't save as a JPEG, but was a bit sketchy on what TO save it as...
but thanks^_^ now i know how to not lose everything i've done^_^

ooo, that's cool. I've been thinking about getting a tablet and photoshop cs but the price of ps cs is crazy! So I'm glad I can still make cool stuff with the software the tablet comes with. But I guess photoshop cs is better than elements, is it not? I guess it's something I can think about for Christmas, on top of the Wii and a scanner. :woot:

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MechaBerry In reply to Sorano-chan [2006-09-25 23:25:01 +0000 UTC]

There isn't a very large difference between the two, I like Elements because I can do multiple undos without cracking open the history box.

But I like CS2 'cause when I use the brush tool, I can just right click and adjust it's settings right there, without moving to the other side of the screen. (Heh, yeah Im lazy. )

But I do suggest to purchase it. Consider it a good investment in future projects? ;;
