Description
This is the latest page from my webcomic, Annie. I don't usually color the pages, but this one kind of grabbed me and demanded it, and I had a lot of fun with it ^^Someday I will actually look up how to draw fireworks, but I think what I have gives the idea well enough ~laugh~

Chinese lanterns 
Now that's some real looking fireworks. Much better than mine in the Night of Fireworks lol.

Favorite parts of this: the chinese lanterns, Mei Yi's eye shadow, the blue highlights, and the general richness of it all.
And yes, that first panel works better with things behind it. <3

I'm glad ^^ I had fun with the lighting, and figuring out how to do makeup in the first place. I don't think I've ever actually tried to make someone look like they were wearing eyeshadow before, so I I tried to paint it like putting eyeshadow on a real face.
Thanks for pushing me to add the lanterns and background. They didn't really take that much longer, considering how much time I'd already put in the rest of it, and it looks so much better with them ^_^

I love the lighting effects you do when you stop being afraid to go really dark. Light is made more beautiful by contrast.
And you're welcome. I give you advice based on my own experience and I'm glad it works well. Sometimes it's the little things that make the biggest difference on a page.

I have embraced the darkness! Bwahaha! But it really is true ^^, I was too timid to push my contrast for years, and I think it really looks a lot better now that I try to.
I just need to remember. Shadow = loss of detail ~laugh~ I need to lay my shadows in _before_ I paint any fine detail, like I did on Annie's lips >.> But it was fun to paint anyway ^^
Hopefully soon I'll be able to push myself to add those little details without you reminding me. ~needs to be less people-centric~

Indeed not ^^ Especially since, after staring at a piece for days, it is hard to see what might be missing.
I'm just fortunate I have such a skillful pair of backup eyes to call on ^_~
