They dropped from the sky like meteors
Pounding the earth and throwing up great clouds of dust
Covering their advance

The walls were overrun
Our only warning was the tremors of impact when they hit
We couldn't see anything for all that dust
Dust
Teeth
Death
The earth betrayed us

There are only a handful of us left
We retreated underground
Where they couldn't blind us
They are big
In those narrow tunnels though they cannot maneuver
Using ourselves for bait
We draw them in
Run them smack against steel bars
Then spit them on swords and spears

But they are fast
Even in narrow tunnels
They are so fast
Scales
Claws
And teeth

We dispersed
We adapted
Now we use the earth to fight back
