Yeah, pokemon shouldn't be judged based on how many battles they can win, they should be loved for who they are! And you're right that each pokemon has its strength and even if they lose against some pokemon, they'll do well against others.

Yeah, Honchkrow does have a pretty cool cry. I really like lots of the cries of the DP pokemon. I think the more advanced console let them make them sound much more interesting. I can't get over how Gastrodon's cry makes it sound so . . . squishy. O_o

I dunno, is it just me, or do all of the Pokemon's cries in Red/Blue/Yellow sound...similar...? Since I can't give the exact notes on the compy, I'll try to show what I mean...

All the first generation cries seem to follow that mattern - forte on the first note, then go a half step down and a pit quieter on the second, and then a full step down on the third. That's sounds like...and I'm still trying to figure out if Ryhorn and Carizard have the same cry or not. o_o; They're EXTREMELY similar.

Yeah, a lot of the old cries do seem kind of similar, I guess they had limited sounds to choose from . . . or maybe they just had limited creativity at the time. 
Woah, I just listened to Rhyhorn and Charizard's cries, and they DO sound the same. O_o

I remember back in the day, before he got animed or cartoonified, I used to think Electabuzz was like the COOLEST thing ever...especially because of his cry. I used to like listen to it over and over. XD Remember when he looked like a stripe-y cat in Red/Blue? That was AWESOME.

Electabuzz was one of my favourites back in the really early days too. O_o But strangely, I don't think I ever trained one, possibly because I started with Blue version.
