Yes,I love teeth. I don't want to know why.lol Thanks. Glad you enjoy wandering around in there.lol
I really need to get on the stick, and finish something. I'm thinking I should just start a new one, with a plan in mind.
How did you do yours latest drawings? Were they just random?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Larainjp In reply to Meltin [2011-05-03 06:06:48 +0000 UTC]

What about the pieces that you sent to me, I thought they were great? Do you usually have a plan or do they just emerge and evolve? I did have a starting point for my drawings with the Richard Feynman diagrams although yesterday I took some self portrait photos in the mirror and have started some work from that. I also find 'The Surrealists' are inspiring, although I haven't looked at any for quite some time, certain pieces are ingrained in my memory. It might be worth researching the original movement. Have you seen the films L'Age D'Or and Le Chien Andalou? I might take my own advice and do some research and watch the films again myself! When working with surrealism I sometimes choose objects that seem to be particularly evocative which often seems 'archetypal' such as a doll or eyes etc. In the past I have scribbled on the page, worked on it in some places turned it to different angles and just gazed at it until I can see what's hidden in there. I have done this with the fantasy work too. I suggested a collaborative piece as I thought it might be interesting to explore these processes. When it's done digitally or on printouts none of the original work is obliterated or even changed. Just having dialogue about different approaches and techniques in itself is inspiring. I'm so curious about other artists and how they work. I'm tired I only had 1 hour's sleep last night, not enough and I have to take my son round to my mum's so he can do some gardening for her this morning! My driving might be a little wobbly, it's only a 5 minute drive thankfully!

Meltin In reply to Larainjp [2011-05-04 01:11:13 +0000 UTC]

The pieces I sent you weren't finished. I used to draw a main subject, and if I liked it,I was so relieved I would just submit it. I was always afraid to mess it up by adding other parts. Later tho',I looked at them, and realized they were missing something. Imagine "Take Me With You",with just the face, and no background. Or "Prayers For Rain" WITH a background. That's one I'm contemplating revisiting.I have an idea for it.
I must admit,I know very little about artists, and art,for that matter. Since being on da,I've tried to pick up on things but still,I don't know much. Timing has alot to do with it,I think. I've just been in a...less than desirale place in life, the last 2 years or so. I'm making adjustments tho'. I am very curious so,it's really contradictory to my nature. I'm not familiar with these films. What are they about?
My approach is a bit different. I think about things, and try to find ways of representing them artistically. Sometimes,I just doodle on the page,(that sounds funny to me,lol)and come up with an idea, based on what I've drawn. Actually, that's the way it goes most times. I need to explore the work of some of the original surrealists tho'. I think it would be inspiring.
I don't remember you suggesting a collaborative piece. Might be interesting.
You erally need to get moer rest. I really need to get the r before the e.lol I do it all the time. In any word.
Hope the trip to Mum's went well.

Larainjp In reply to Meltin [2011-05-04 05:55:32 +0000 UTC]

I think your doodling on the page and seeing what emerges is very similar to what I sometimes do, which I find interesting, as you know I'm keen to understand how other artists work. I see what you mean about the background, I guess you are doing one for them! I'm looking forward to seeing them finished. Hurry up! I'm not particularly patient. I've nearly finished one of my drawings as a digital painting so that should be uploaded today hopefully. I had some sleep last night, so working towards getting back to the oils, if I can get back into a decent sleep pattern.
I'm curious what has been happening in your life in the last 2 years? What adjustments are you making? I'm a bit nosey
I've been studying other artists since I was a child and had to do this formally when at uni, it's just a matter of accumulated knowledge. I don't know too much about contemporary artists though. L'Age D'Or and La Chien Andalou are not films that I could describe really. They were made by Dali and Brunel and are obviously surreal without an apparent storyline as far as I can make out although I haven't researched the background of these. You may be able to watch these on You Tube or I'm sure be able to order then on Amazon at least. I so miss teaching as I used to recommend particular research for individual students according to what I thought would be interesting and relevant to their work. It seems now my knowledge is somewhat wasted although of course I can use it in my own work.
Regarding the order of your r and e as an ex special needs teacher, in my professional opinion, I would suggest a mild case of slysdexia I'll see if I can come up with a little sketch for you to work on a little and send it via email, just as an experiment. You can send the amended piece back to me etc etc and see what inspirations we come up with, if you like? What do you think? As we work in a similar way I think this would be interesting.

Meltin In reply to Larainjp [2011-05-06 03:12:12 +0000 UTC]

Well,I haven't decided if I'm going to add backgrounds or not...yet. I'm pretty sure I will one day. I have so many ideas but,I'm not really pleased with any of them.lol I'm searching for something but, haven't really hit on it yet. One I figure it out,I'll hurry and finish. I have many more wips but am reluctant to send them to you,for fear of causing problems between you,and your pseudo husband.lol
My life? Hmm. I guess I never really got used to being alone. I'm not as motivated as I used to be. Doing things for just me,isn't as rewarding as having someone to share it with. Altho' no one ever really appreciated my creative abilities. They always wound up being more a matter of inconvenience, rather than assets. Work has been up and down as well. That doesn't help much. It's alot of things I guess.
I'll try to remember to check out the movies. They sound really interesting.
Yes,you can send me a sketch. I'd be curious to see what happens.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Larainjp In reply to Meltin [2011-05-06 07:08:35 +0000 UTC]

Please send your wips I'd love to see them. Why do you call my partner my pseudo husband, do you not think cohabitation is a valid option? We've both been married twice before and are a little cynical of marriage, although neither of us have really discussed it. Strangely previously it seems in most of my relationships I have been engaged in a relatively short time. Thankfully not all of them have led to marriage How long have you been alone? Are you still on a dating site? I don't know how old you are at all, younger than me I think but I don't know by how much? My partner isn't interested in creating art himself although he is interested in music. He does take an interest in my art and I appreciate his opinion but it's not the same as having other artists to share ideas with. He thinks I'm a nutty artist basically! I guess he likes it though I think people are meant to be with someone even though it can have it's problems. It's a matter of the right person I think whether it's an inconvenience or asset. Perhaps I'm just a romantic In fact I know I am you only have to look at my fantasy work to see that I think.
Le Chien Andalou is only about 15 minutes long and so is the best one to start with. L'Age D'Or is quite long and can be difficult to watch it all. One and a half hours (approx guess) of weirdness sent me a little strange myself and took a while to become grounded again. I'll send part of a sketch and finish it myself which I will send once I've received your addition as well as my new addition (does that make sense?). It will be interesting to make a comparison. I will then return it to you with some additions of my own. I think it will be really interesting. Lots of images should emerge I hope. It will be difficult to know when it's finished. Ha! Who will have the last word (pencil stroke) I'm going to make a start on it in a minute. How exciting!

Meltin In reply to Larainjp [2011-05-06 22:52:16 +0000 UTC]

Ok then. I'll send a few more. It was just a joke. I didn't mean to rile you.lol I guess I'm old fashioned in that respect. It seems natural to be married,if you get along well enough to live together. I've cohabitated before. I don't have a problem with it. Altho' I do believe it tends to make you less committed. It's much easier to get out,if you're not married. That's a good thing...if you decide to get out.lol I look for long term potential in relationships. I believe in true love also. I'm tired of being alone but,I also got tired of thinking I wasn't,then suddenly I was once again. I want to share my life with someone who shares my interests. Not a clone, but someone who at least appreciates some of the things I'm interested in. Besides all that,I'm a snuggly guy. I haven't figured out how to snuggle alone.
Hmm. L'Age D'Or sounds like something worth watching.
I got the sketch. Do I have total artistic freedom?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Larainjp In reply to Meltin [2011-05-07 06:27:38 +0000 UTC]

You didn't rile me It was not the first time that you referred to it though and I picked up some dissonance and just wondered what it was exactly. I'm sure you will find the right person to be with. Perhaps we need different people at different times in our life and I really believe that we have lessons we are meant to learn in this life and only certain people can teach them to us, whether we like them or not! I think mostly we all want empathy, someone who understands us at a very deep level. It all refers back to Bowlby's attachment theory I think! I won't launch into a psychology lecture though. I vonder vot 'snuggly' meanz egzactly : Hmmmmmmm Dr Perry is analysing again! Yep, watch the films, is because I said it made me strange that intrigues you? lol
You have absolute artistic freedom, do whatever inspires you. If I was precious about it, which I'm not, I have the original anyway as will you each time it's altered so we don't need to worry about spoiling the image. I'm intrigued to see what the result of this experiment will be

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Meltin In reply to Larainjp [2011-05-07 06:53:16 +0000 UTC]

Actually,I can never remember the word(s) you use for him. It wasn't dissonance, just me trying to think of a way to identify him,and maybe be funny in the process. I assume he has a name?lol
I may find the right person,I may not. What's important I guess,is that I believe I will. That way I'll keep looking forward to tomorrow. Not that,THAT is all I live for.lol
I agree with you there. A partner who really understands,or at least really tries to understand you,is a partner worth hanging on to. Assuming they're height and weight proportionate. That's a joke. Something I picked up from being on the dating website.
"Snuggly" actually means cuddly, comfy time. You're disgusting,Mrs Freud!
I will watch the film. If it freaked you out,it must be good!
Ok then. Absolute artistic freedom. The downside to doing it this way,is the fact that nothing can really overlap.lol A fact you may,or may not, have considered.

His name is Darryl I found I actually liked being alone after my last divorce. It took 2 years with Darryl before we decided to live together. Enjoy your time alone, it has its own benefits. Why am I disgusting? Gee, I didn't mean anything rude, tis you! How'd you get that little pic of Freud in there? Why can't you overlap. I have considered, no reason why you can't delete some if you want. Use tippex then photocopy or anything else, ie copying or tracing, anything, just be as creative and as free as you want. Overlap as much as you like. A little corner of my platform peeping out, or even none at all, complete obliteration. Conceptual! As long as it stimulates some ideas it doesn't matter. Guess what? I have 3D Studio Max, Darryl got it for me, yippee! I'll have to do a refresher course though, wade through the heavy tutorial books. Will probably take me a year!

Meltin In reply to Larainjp [2011-05-07 20:29:54 +0000 UTC]

Ah Darryl. Is he intelligent? I wonder because, there seems to be a stereotype that goes with that name over here. I'm not making fun,by any means. Just for the sake of my own curiosity. A comparison between our 2 cultures.
Why are you disgusting? Because I mentioned snuggling, and you replied with a German accent, and a Freudian reference, which to me,translated into a perverted thought by you. I had a feeling you were human.
What is Tippex? I have no way to go over the top of any of it. I am digital free, here. Remember? lol I have no plan to obliterate any of it.lol What is Conceptual art? What about objective, and subjective drawing? I'm tired of Googling eveything. I'm going to Google you instead.Yes,I'm fully aware how that sounds. I don't mean it that way. It just sounded too funny to edit.
Darryl sounds like a very generous and caring guy. I think it's very thoughtful of him to try and get involved in what interests you. A year of studying manuals? Ugh. I may actually have a drawing done by then.lol You better get started....now.

I think I 'd rather be on the beach at that point too. I'd settle for clean underwear though.

The guy really hits you straight away, but the attention to detail and skill here makes it hit home. It's nice to look at it after that initial impact and appreciate the small things like the finger wrinkles, the gums and teeth. Not too much to make it busy, just enough. You seem to have a good balance in that aspect in your work in general. The way the ears bow in like that makes the mouth stand out and look even bigger.

Plenty of wear and tear in those choppers. I bet he's a lovely guy though. I can almost imagine him as a goofy guy just helpfully pointing out directions or saying hellow to a fellow hiker or rambler.

That's funny. I wondered about the initial impact of that face on the screen. I got so used to looking at it,I think I became numb to the affect. Glad you noticed the details. I still have a lot to learn but...I'm learning.lol Yea,the teeth. Actually,I try and give them a slightly woody effect. Just my thing,I guess. That's pretty much what he's about tho'. A friendly, goofy looking guy,who doesn't want to be where he is. Not a whole lot different than many of us.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. I appreciate it.
