Description We all have decisions to make in life. Some easy, some not so easy. Many times the end result, reflects the amount of effort it took to get there. Just an observation.

I guess there are other ways to represent the concept.
I decided to keep it simple, and be blunt...in a humorous way.
You're very welcome, and thank you for the comment, and the fav'.

Very good representation of life, and the ways it twists the options around you... i sometimes wonder if our selves acctually exist as were seem to be a reaction to circumstance, only doing what were taught, only able to act on what is given....

I still think that this is one of the most brilliant (and poignant) images that I've come across here on deviantART for the sole sake of its message and the simplicity of the rendering.

Seriously.

Another metaphor that I can see this used for, would be the old adage about the path to either Heaven (narrow is the gate and steep / difficult is the climb) or to that of Hell (wide is the path and smooth is the descent into perdition).

Short and sweet...and simple. Or so I thought. If memory serves, a few people missed the message. My rendering, tho' well done, is flawed.
I must admit, twas a bit unsettling drawing a pile of shit but, alas, all for the sake of art,no?
I like your alternate meaning. Very nice.
Thank you very much for the comment, and the compliment. Much appreciated.

- No problem.

- Once again, a very poignant image ... I'm amazed that some people didn't grasp the meaning of it as it is so very apparent.

- Ah, but it is "synthetic" shit for art's sake. A mere depiction of fecal matter. Just be glad that you didn't have to conduct a still life rendering of said shit pile or introduce a "scratch-n-sniff" element to the image. Heh heh heh.

- You are very welcome.

Frustrating it doesn't show what happens to the poo.

Offscreen, I think that there is a giant cauldron in which said poo ferments; is then dried out and sterilized; is then broken down into round discs about 3 inches in diameter and about .25 of an inch thick; and finally marketed to fast food chains as "hamburgers".

Or maybe that should be "Soylent Brown"? ... ala the flick "Soylent Green":

"It's people. Soylent Green is made out of people. They're making our food out of people. Next thing they'll be breeding us like cattle for food. You've gotta tell them. You've gotta tell them!"

No way.

No way on the partially digested corn discovery.

When I was a kid in elementary school, there was a rumour about "worms in the hamburgers" due to the glutenous globules found in the burger patties.

But corn? And undigested at that? Ewwww.

Yes ... Soylent Green. Pretty lame movie (acting-wise) but an interesting concept.

A classic example of the 70's,trying to be futuristic. Fritz Lang could've done a much better job,had he still been around.

vertebrae242 In reply to Meltin [2012-01-04 05:45:15 +0000 UTC]

Quite possible.

Fritz Lang had a incredible visionary streak about him and could very well have pulled off a better version of "Soylent Green". I watched "Metropolis" only once, and wasn't thrilled with it, however, I did like some of the concepts as well as the iconic robot which it is so well known for (actually was an influence upon George Lucas' idea of the golden coloured robot C-3PO in his Star Wars films).

Yes ... be careful about what you eat.

I find that adding Tobasco Sauce / Soy Sauce makes everything taste better.

Well,if you consider it was made in the late 20's,it sort of changes your perspective. I mean, you have to change your perspective, and think about what was possible cinematographically,at that time. Check out L'Age d'or,or Un Chien Andalou. Bunuel/Dali collabs. You probably are already familiar but, just in case.

I might be able to incorporate Tabasco into my Jambalaya.lol I use soy sauce mainly for Chinese. Never as an afterthought tho'. It's not ketchup. I made 3 Pepper Steak for a friend and his wife, once. He thought he was going to put soy sauce on it. He thought wrong. Cooking is art. Don't fuck with other peoples' art.

"Don't fuck with other peoples' art." <--- Is gonna be my catchphrase for the remainder of this week. + =

Agreed with you on the 1920's cinema. Indeed you are correct.

Actually, I am not familiar with "L'Age d'or", "Un Chien Andalou", or the "Bunuel / Dali collabs" at all. Enlighten me oh dear sage one.

Soy sauce and Tabasco (TM) sauce are good on just about everything except pancakes. I especially enjoy it on rice. But no go on any meat / poultry / fish + seafood dishes as I am a vegetarian.

I do agree with you on the friend of yours throwing the proverbial wrench into the mix by adding the Soy Sauce with the 3 pepper steak that you prepared. Did you wind up amputating his hands? I would have done so. Just a big ole machete on each of his hands whilst reclining at the dinner table. Should of if you didn't ... then put the soy sauce on his hands and then forced him to eat them with a retort of "HOW YA LIKE THEM APPLES MUTHAFUCKAH! How ya like the soy sauce on YOUR fookin' hands? Teach ya NOT to FUCK WITH MY FUCKING ART! Wadda ya think I am? The fuckin' cornerstore Chinese take out?"

Now THAT ... that would have made quite an impression. Indeed.

Even better, would have been to have filmed it and then uploaded it to YouTube. A million hits ... GUARANTEED. No doubt about it. You'd be an instant celebrity in Saudi Arabia and those countries that practice Sharia / Islamic law. People would be blowin' themselves up with images of your face emblazoned on their headbands as well as on their bomb vests.

But what if there are no decisions at all... what if the treasure is in you ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Meltin In reply to LesleyCristina [2011-03-02 22:21:31 +0000 UTC]

There are always decisions. That's life. Right down to the color socks you're going to put on in the morning. The treasure exists within your mind. Whether you find it or not,is entirely up tp you. Success and peace of mind, are nothing more than a matter of perception. The pot of gold, and the pile of crap, are just metaphors for success and failure. They represent, whatever you want them to represent.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LesleyCristina In reply to Meltin [2011-03-02 23:14:15 +0000 UTC]

: )
Decisions arent life, but i know what you mean. The treasure exists within you, and you can be conscious of this unexplaninable realization, with mind. Though the joy isnt in mind, its in you. Love and reason are the two biggest realities we will reach to, reflecting life itself, manifesting through forms, with different levels of consciousness though all coming from the same source, life. Your basing your decisions on your experiences through your life situations, but how can you define this as life itself. For instants, a tree... does it choose to be? hmm...
much peace

Meltin In reply to LesleyCristina [2011-03-03 22:54:16 +0000 UTC]

Decisions are PART of life. A huge part,in my experience. I think maybe you've over-analyzed my drawing tho'. It's merely a metaphor, for the decisions people make every day, that have a profound effect on their lives. Many times the easy choices lead to unhappiness, and the more difficult choices end up being more rewarding. Not always the case but, many times it's true.
You seem to be coming from a more spiritual viewpoint. I don't subscribe to that point of view. Not entirely. I believe the mind is the center of everything a person is. I think we all are born with certain tendencies but, experiences in life, color ones personality, and make you how,and who you are. There are many other variables involved but, that's the condensed version.
I am curious tho'. If joy exists within me,where is this place of which you speak? Specifically. What exactly is joy? An energy,or emotion? I'm not exactly sure what you're referring to when you say,"life". Existence,or experience?
As far as the tree goes, how do you know for sure? I don't.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LesleyCristina In reply to Meltin [2011-03-05 15:29:16 +0000 UTC]

Joy is not in your mind. If you give only attention to your head then you are only using a part of your inteligence, because your body and spirit is also part of you as much as your mind. People with amnesia, they dont need to remember how to drive, if they knew, then they will do it automaticaly. How is this? Its not their thoughts, because those are simply past and future reference. You can use your mind to connect with you, once you realize that you arent your thoughts, they are simply a part of you like your lever, your heart... you will let go of all identifications, of all choices, you will be the choise itself. Once there is choises there are separations. You make the decision, but if they werent made in the first place there wouldnt be such thing. Everything is born in the now, this instant moment which holds all life, nothing and something, everything. This moment is connected to everything and nothing. Your thoughts are created in the moment. The past was done in the now and the future will only become real in the now. If we are never here, and we are always wondering and reacting with the conditions of our minds, then of course there will be separation, there will be many decsions to make. But if you are in the moment, there is no choice at all, because you are being and at the moment you do. You wont choose to do. You wont eat because you feel like it, you wont consciously choose pain, because there is no pain unless you become the pain itself, your thoughts, attachment to illusion created from self. What is the point to all of this? This is not joy, thoughts if anything, find joy quite indegisteble... Your ego can only feed itself through YOU, unless you realize its there. Your mind is an amazing instrument, but once we become it we will only destroy because there is no joy, there is only wants and desires. But if you are in joy, then you realize there is nothing needed. Nothing matters, lets just honor every moment that comes.

I don't know what to say. You can believe what you want. It's up to you. I see your point. I don't feel the same. I might have looked at it differently, when I was 20 yrs old. I'm 50 now. I wonder how you'll feel in 30 years? You'll find out,I suppose. Peace to you.

I understand. When I speak to a child there are many things they say that I learn from, like from a plant, a tree, an adult, and even you. The essence of who you are, of who I am, lies beyond and in every form. This essence is the same. Of course my point of view will be different at that time. But this is always the same. If anything, my point of view is about having an open mind, its not about age. Like I mentioned i learn from a child as i learn from an adult is It mysterious when we allow, accept to open our minds. I enjoy talking to you, it is not about age, but simply about communicating with another human being, joy. Much peace to you too : )

You have much to learn, yes. So do I. As long as you live, you should be learning. One thing I've learned tho',not everyone believes like I do. You,for example. You have your way of seeing things. You should keep on that road BUT,never stop questioning.
There are many embellishments,in the stories we choose to believe.
