Description A while back I decided to try my own interpretation of the Kirin, basically a Japanese unicorn. I have pages and pages of sketches, starting from exact copies of ancient Japanese art and slowly evolving into this, my Kirin design. I had a lot of fun with it, despite how complicated it is. There's so much flowing hair, and all those scales!

This is a detail of the head and neck... and I am so happy with it! Well, aside from the fact that the cheek scales don't know which way they want to go. Other than that, I couldn't have asked for this to be more perfect, from the curves in the hair to the shading on the scales. I think it has a kind face, don't you? ^_^

Thanks! I'm a sucker for detail, it's just a matter of finding the time to put in the work it takes.

This is what most traditional art of the kirin looks like: [link]
The Chinese version often has one or two antlers instead of a horn, and is more dog-like and ferocious.
