Description Taken tonight for a photo assignment in another forum, entitled 'silhouettes'. This was taken at the lake down the front of my university here in Daegu, South Korea (as bloody usual - I need to get away from this place and take some different photos!).

Lens: EF-S 18-55mm kit lens
Filter: Cokin Grad-Fluo P1 P (670)

no cropping on this one - dimensions are exactly as they came out of the camera, apart from being shrunk to fit on dA.

Thanks - glad you like it! It was a lucky photo - I hadn't planned to be near the lake that that time, and luckily I had my camera gear with me as well.

thanks a lot, glad you like the photo! It looks great now, but in winter a lot of Korea looks very gray and drab. I think I just happened to be in the right place at the right time to snag this photo in front of the lake.

I really love the contrast between the house and the larger buildings across the way. The color is awesome, and I think the tree on the right adds to the shot significantly. Very nice.

I really like this one. First of all it's very sharp and focused. The silhouette effect is always nice especially with the pink/purple tone. From the framing color to the overall composition - it's very successful and thumbs up from me.

cheers for the detailed comment - really appreciate it. I'm glad you like it, as I was quite pleased with the result as well. It started out as a bit of a test of the filter, but came out well.

Thanks, I was quite happy with the result as well. I also tried using an orange graduated filter, but the pink was definitely the best.

Wow Meson, i keep thinking that you played with that in photoshop to get those colors. They are amazing.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mesondecay In reply to surge2k [2007-02-16 16:21:42 +0000 UTC]

no playing whatsoever. Take an almost dead sunset (I was late getting to the lake, it was almost over), and a pink filter, and 'wha-lah' (or however you spell it). I did fiddle with contrast to emphasize the silhouette for the assignment, but no color manipulation at all. (apart from the filter strapped to the lens at time of shooting, of course)

Thanks very much for your comment here, glad you like it.

There are silhouettes by the dozen that are orange but I can't remember the last one I saw that was shocking pink!!! This is eye-popping lovely

Yes!!!! that 22,000 won Cokin filter was worth it, just from this comment alone. Thanks very much, and I really appreciate your comment...

bodkins [2007-02-16 13:56:22 +0000 UTC]

Filtering not too extreme - suits the shot well. Particularly as only the water and sky are coloured, essentially. Don't think it would look anywhere near as good with pink buildings and trees - the sillhouetting really marries well with the filter.

mesondecay In reply to bodkins [2007-02-16 14:27:46 +0000 UTC]

thanks Forrest, appreciate the useful feedback. Try fiddling with filters to add some 'zest' to pics. Cokin isn't the best, but not the worst. Add a little France to your work...
