I will definitely be going back sometime. I hope to move to Jordan and work there once I finish my degree (I'm taking Archaeology, specializing in archaeology and history of the Middle East). I loved Jordan when I was there this summer, the locals I interacted with were very friendly and helpful.

I've often thought about Petra, it has long captured my imagination. I hope to see it myself some day!

the moon was so bright that night that i couldnt get a decent shot of it, it kept on showing as this big glowing ball in the blue sky! it was 10pm!!!! one thing we city slickers forget is how bright the sky is when the moon is in its fullest !

Its all the street lights, they dumb down the stars. What we see in cities is about a quarter of what can be seen without street lighting. Its like that if you go to the far south of England, on the moors. You can see billions of stars and the moon looks twice as big, all because there's no light pollution. Pity we (humans) hjave to be so destructive when there is so much beauty in the world to see...

Someone on DA mentioned that it is called Light Pollution! you know you can even feel the change in temperature when you leave the city in wintertime, oh and the stars!! wow the stars!

Yep, London is always about 3 degrees warmer than everywhere else, it's disgusting. I'm glad i got myself out of there, only thing is living where i do - its FREEZING!!! *Cries*
At least the air has oxygen in it though...

Oh yes! I was born just outside london and it's twice as warm as Yorkshire - i don't know why i've ended up moving UP the country instead of OUT of it hahahah. I wanted to be in the countryside, but i think i was thinking more like Cornwall than the ice cold dales....

i think that there are pro's and con's to living in each environments, but i think I'd prefer a major city to the countryside!

I'm so sad that I didn't get to see Petra by candlelight. I was only there two days and it was on the night I had to leave to fly out.
I love your photos of it though, it brought tears to my eyes to see in full sunlight, so I can only imagine how beautiful it must be at night.

hehe yeah frankly i swore i'd never visit it during the day again, its a spiritual experiance during the night, especially because there only about 70 people in the area (compared to thousands during the day)

I'm definitely going to see it next time! It wasn't too crowded when I went there thankfully though, but the road had been blocked by snow in the week before we got there so that might have stopped a lot of people. There were still too many though XD

The composition and angle is so dynamic. The glimpse of the starry sky really makes this a wonderful piece of art. I so envy you of all your trips to Petra!
