Description "Oh thanks genius, it's not like I was needing to submit that to Odin or anything..."

--

EEEGADS I am so glad I'm finished with this one now. D8 I wasn't originally going to color this (I was planning on making it a rough grayscale image), but somewhere along the line I changed my mind and started coloring.... and it made Photoshop lag like no other..! oTL;;; I think I must use too many layers... |D;;;

Anyway, more Loki and fire, woooo xD
(This time with Thialfi and Thor as well! Glad I got to draw Thialfi again~)

((... being a fire giant, Loki himself can't be harmed by fire. That's why his hand is like halfway in the flame and he doesn't even care. x'D))

... My next goal is to model this building in Google SketchUp so that I'll have an easy perspective guide for it AND so I can draw the designs on those columns consistently in the future. :I stupidfancycolumnsffffffuuuuuu

hell yeahhhh!! Β  I've got no bones to pick with people who associate him with the frost giants of course, but the fire association has always been my preference.

Personally I feel frost giant doesn't fit, even the myths lean more towards fire giant.

definitely agreed! : )Β  to me he's far more volatile like fire rather than icy and cold.

Yep.

While we are talking about Loki, have you ever read the books Runelight/Runemark/The Gospel of Loki?

I have not!Β  granted I've at least heard of runemark, but I've never actually read them! 0:

You need to read them! I just finishes Runelight and HOLY SHIT.

I've also read The Gospel of Loki more times then I have fingers and toes, I have a feeling you'd love it.

hey have you ever tried to draw heimdals golden smile?! gullintani (gold tooth is his other name) i wonder if it is some euphemism for a winning smile i tried to make it.. i found something i liked it took a while.. i dont picture him as a toothey grinner.. i mean he sits outside and doesnt sleep..

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

midwaymilly In reply to ookamikarai [2011-11-22 07:25:59 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I did try drawing Heimdall with golden teeth at one point, it just was NOT working well. xDD It made his teeth look nasty yellow instead of gold. (yuck!) I had never thought of it being a figure of speech or a euphemism before though! I like that idea a lot better, even if he doesn't smile very often.

teenbeen42 [2011-10-30 18:16:17 +0000 UTC]

Is Loki a fire giant then? I never found anything that specifically said... I figured that he was just a regular giant. Only way more awesome cause he's Loki. And what's that he's barbequeing? (I never figured Thor for the type who was able to write... XD) Love the picture, and how Thialfi looks all awed and amazed! I thought for a second that Loki was roasting marshmallows (no clue why but it's what I'd do). He most definitely could make amazing smores!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

midwaymilly In reply to teenbeen42 [2011-10-31 01:58:59 +0000 UTC]

Yeeaah, it kinda depends on your sources.... Some of the more modern interpretations associate him with fire, but admittedly that probably started due to a mix-up between Loki and Logi. I decided to go with it anyway for two reasons; fire matches his personality nicely, and it allows me to ultimately place him in alliance with Surtr and the rest of the fire giant crew in the adaptation I'm working on~ :'D

BUT yeah xD
I figured after being alive for hundreds or thousands of years, Thor probably got around to learning to write at some point. xDD ... And I'm sure Loki could make amazing s'mores if you don't mind them charcoaled and crispy..! x'DDD (naah he could probably roast perfect marshmallows too if he was patient enough with it.)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

teenbeen42 In reply to midwaymilly [2011-11-01 11:54:18 +0000 UTC]

It does suit him really well, and I can see him rocking the magic. I was just wondering if you had a source I didn't. (suspicious face) XD but technically, if he was a fire giant, wouldn't he be under Surtr's rule? Cause he was their king... but ah well, it totally works! Can I see this adaptation by any chance? Cause I've heard so much about it.

After he's tried perfect smores I reckon Loki would take the time to learn to do it right... Until then the hell with that, he's just gonna watch the marshmallows BURN! XD And I dunno, it always seemed to me like Thor would find writing a waste of time... I mean he's got Loki to do all the thinking brain stuff for him when they're on their quests, I just figured he'd rather spend the time fighting and drinking like the boys in Valhalla.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

midwaymilly In reply to teenbeen42 [2011-11-02 20:01:19 +0000 UTC]

Heh, well I won't bog you down with an in-depth explanation, but Loki is indeed under Surtr's rule in the version I'm working on... <: He joins up with the Γ†sir and all, but more or less is actually a "spy" (for lack of a better term xD) for the fire giants nearly the entire time. He's sort of Surtr's right-hand-man, basically. :T
And I don't have anything to show for the adaptation quiiite yet; this past year I've been working on a lot of the final concepting and scripting for it, in hopes that I can hopefully start drawing the comic either over the summer or when I'm out of college :'D

Dude and I can't blame him, watching marshmallows burn is one of the most entertaining things! 8T The way they puff up like that is just craaazy.
Haha, well that reasoning is fair enough too! : D Loki's definitely more or less the brains on the quests; Thor was never good at thinking things out before acting. xD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

teenbeen42 In reply to midwaymilly [2011-11-03 11:45:42 +0000 UTC]

It's so true... although I wouldn't want to go on a quest where the brains of the mission was notoriously a shit disturber. XD I'm much happier being the shit disturber. ^^

And have you ever noticed how much marshmallows look like brains as they burn? 0.o It's so weird... Also flaming marshmallows on sticks are the most deadly projectile weapons known to man.

I hope you start drawing the comic soon, I wanna read it! And while I can't see Loki being anyone's bitch (except for his own amusement) I'm kinda looking forward to seeing this comic. You should start drawing it soon! Poor Odin is gonna be so sad when he realises his brother is an enemy spy... serves him right for being a meanie face though.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

midwaymilly In reply to teenbeen42 [2011-11-07 02:44:12 +0000 UTC]

You know what's even cooler than burning marshmallows? Burning marshmallow PEEPS. I was trying to roast one of those suckers one time and it was WICKED man. :'DD

Well Loki ends up more or less taking matters into his own hands eventually anyway; he never was especially fond of having to carry out Surtr's plans, so he ends up more or less rebelling against him as things progress.... x'D Though at the same time he screws up the ulterior motives of the Γ†sir pretty thoroughly too.... Buuuhhh hopefully it'll make more sense when I actually get the story going~ :T WHICH will hopefully be someday in the nearish future, if I can manage to get it started... x'D YEAH he definitely ends up causing problems for Odin though. x'D

This sounds BADASS! I know that if you stick toothpicks in peeps and put them in the microwave, they'll sword fight. It is quite wonderous to behold!

I really must read this adaptation of yours. I shall be looking forward to it a lot. Loki just hasn't got the attention span for other people's plans. XD

fff I'm glad..! *v* Hopefully I'll be able to get it rolling someday soon~~ Loki much prefers to do things his own way rather than follow other peoples' orders, that's for sure. xDDD

It's quite cool.. the peeps also swell and deflate and stuff, it's rather wonderful.

teenbeen42 In reply to midwaymilly [2011-11-28 12:29:46 +0000 UTC]

That's why you wanna be his friend you see. Then you can even help! XD That's probably why Thor ends up hanging out with him so much. It's better to keep him where you can see him and plot with him. ^^ Also, I only just noticed but is Thor wearing eyeliner in a lot of these?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

midwaymilly In reply to teenbeen42 [2011-12-02 03:56:05 +0000 UTC]

eeeyup. It's better to keep him nearby where you can atleast somewhat keep him under control, rather than let him go off by himself and cause even WORSE trouble unsupervised. :T;;;

Oh haha, nope he's not wearing eyeliner, I just tend to use heavier lines for the rims of his eyes~ xDD

teenbeen42 In reply to midwaymilly [2011-12-04 17:09:07 +0000 UTC]

Always better to know what the trickster's planning! XD Of course, Odin was never any good at stopping him from doing anything... the awesome Allfather just joined in and helped! XD And that's why we love Odin.

Are you sure? It kind of looks like it to me... and makes me giggle. XDDD Is there any reason why you decided to use the heavier lines? Only I've noticed it makes his expressions seem a little... darker? Dunno how to say it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

midwaymilly In reply to teenbeen42 [2011-12-09 04:46:58 +0000 UTC]

Or he atleast let it slide on most occasions. xD Quite a devious fellow he is, that allfather.

Ah yeah, the reason was to enable his eyes to have a more intense quality when need be, particularly in crazed battle moments and whatnot~ The observation of making his expressions seem a little darker is a good way to describe it! That's more or less what I was going for. He's usually fairly reasonable and just, but he does have his own psychotic moments (particularly in the latter part of the story) and I needed his eyes to be able to convey that when needed. c:

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

teenbeen42 In reply to midwaymilly [2011-12-11 15:26:28 +0000 UTC]

XD I think deep down he just wishes he could run around like a looney too. XD Someone needs to have fun. XD

I see, I see. It works quite well! It makes him look older somehow too... Thor's psychotic moments are the best! XD They leave more debris than even Loki's! And now of course the trickster has to try and match it, because "Challenge Accepted" is his motto. XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

midwaymilly In reply to teenbeen42 [2011-12-22 17:58:37 +0000 UTC]

YEAH haha, it's one thing to have Loki running around causing trouble, but when the single strongest being in all the nine worlds decides goes psycho too, then things REALLY take a turn for the worse.... xD; And of course then Mister Challenge Accepted would take the already sticky situation and make it even messier somehow....

teenbeen42 In reply to midwaymilly [2011-12-23 11:43:37 +0000 UTC]

XD GFD THOR PUT DOWN THE GIANT! Because that's what happens, he drops Mjolnir and grabs the nearest giant by the ankles. XD Best. Weapon. Ever. And then Loki can just make it worse by dumping vanilla pudding everywhere while they battle.

haha A9 just stands for "Asgard 9", which was the temporary project name that I started using to organize all my Norse stuff under~ xD

But anyway, a longer story is exactly what I'm working up towards~! c: It's still in the development stages because college has kept me too busy to devote much time for it yet. midwaymilly In reply to Scisyhp [2011-08-12 00:57:11 +0000 UTC]

Ahh! Yeah, the closest thing the Aesir and Vanir have to ambrosia is Idunn's golden apples of eternal youth. <: ... Though there's also the question of Odin's wine, since Odin never eats anything, golden apples or otherwise; he only drinks wine, and still manages to retain immortality somehow.... :T But he seems to be the one exception...

OMG that awkward look and pause they gave Thialfi.... x'DDDD SO GOOD. XD

and I'm glad you like the colors on Loki's clothes, I had a really hard time getting that blue to look not entirely out of place in a golden-colored building... x'D and it probably looks different on other peoples' monitors, too, so even now I don't know if it looks the same to everyone else as it does to me... xT BUT yeah, I'm glad you like it! xDD
