Finally decided to jump on this whole Influence Map boat. Mine's more of an Inspiration Map thing, but I think it works both ways. I probably could have done three or four more of these, but this is how I was feeling today.Anyhoo:

If I put a map together I'm pretty sure Cooke, Smith, Miyazaki, Bird, Timm, Immonen and Kibuishi would be on it. And I'd include Scott Morse.
Like all these guys though. Was surprised by a couple.

Travis, Campbell and Thompson. The first two being from 90s mainstream, and Thompson as the king of slice-of-life comics.
I didn't think about TenNapel. And that makes me think of Ted Naifeh. Love his style.
I just figured animation would be your major influence, and the map shows that's true.

i think it's safe to say animation and 90's comics shaped the kind of creator i am today. but thompson's strength as a storyteller is definitely influential to me writing comics (as well as his amazing brushwork).

Is kibuishi the guy who drew Daisy Cutter, that sort of steampunk western type comic? I'd forgotten all about that!!

yup! that's the one. he's working on a series of books called Amulet right now that are also very nice. but Daisy Kutter is why he's on my map.

I can't remember the name of the Daisy Kutter comic I read, I think it was by Oni Press but could be mistaken. Is there just one or was there a series of them? (I'm actually going home for a short holiday soon so I might go through all my cupboards and wardrobe at my folks' house and see if I can find the book again, you've piqued my curiousity about it.)

i really wanted to add some stuff other than artists, but i'm influenced by so many artists! it was tough to narrow it down to just these.
maybe i'll do another one with all the other influential stuff...

hmm.. i think i few are on DA. like Johane. but these are people i got into before ever hearing about DA. cept akamatsu. he's pretty new.
i easily could have made a giant one of these with just DA folks though!

Tons of greats on here! I know what you mean about being able to do three or four more pages of them. It's hard to narrow down influences and inspirations when so many great ones are around!
