Description Spontaneous hand drawn scene coloured in PS.
Snake skin stock from Rubyfire14 - [link]

Gather around the Monolith and drink in its ancient wisdom. But don't drink too much or you may acquire more knowledge than you know what to do with. Or perhaps you will imagine that you alone have the know how to use such massive amounts of information. Maybe you will and maybe you won't, but don't come running to the Monolith when your brain turns to Camembert cheese!

This is truly amazing! To be honest I had a hard time peeling my eyes off of this piece. It just has so much depth and a smooth flow. A flow in such a way where one thing after another is capturing the imagination. Leading my eyes all around the piece discovering something new. The vivid colors harmonize with each other, and really hold your attention. It is really interesting that this was drawn spontaneously, it lets the viewer see exactly what was going through your head at the time. It's apparent you had a nice constant flow of ideas which I find to be inspiring!

Many thanks Russell, this is the first time that one of my pieces has been the subject of a critique. It's good to know that someone likes a piece enough to take the time to write something about it and it's even better to know that someone understands the technique used and appreciates resulting image.

I have never written a critique myself, that isn't to say that i don't want to but i'm not always confident about the competence of my prose, i would only want to do a work justice if i did bother to critique it.

Perhaps i should return the favour by doing you as my first, i will do my best to give you a shining appraisal!!

many thanks again
Miles.

My pleasure, Miles! This was in fact my first critique as well. When I saw The Monolith it provoked so many feelings, I felt I had to give an in-depth response. I have to completely agree with you about not always feeling competent of my prose. I found your piece to be perfect for giving it a shot since it had such an effect on me.

I like this because it doesn't make sense. It makes you wonder what's going on, and that triggers the imagination. Try listening to "I am the Walrus" by the Beatles, while looking at this picture. Awesome picture. Fav!

thanks Anthony, nice to mentioned in the same sentence as such a classic song. I'm glad you noticed that it isn't meant to make sense, that's usually the theme of my work!

I like your art a lot, the busyness reminds me of Keith Haring's work. I can always find something to interest me in your pieces

I love the detail and how the image doesn't lead my eye in any particular direction.

thanks Chris, i don't always worry about depth and perspective, it gives the work more of an archaic tribal feel and gets those eyes doing some exercise!

The faces within faces and figures within figures are so much fun.

You know, I think people would buy these in b&w to color themselves! Have you ever considered doing a coloring book?

no, but it's an interesting idea, it would go down well in mental institutions for therapy sessions!
