Description
A painting that was a long time in the works, 12 or so years. Like my 'Small Shrine in the Emerald Jungle' [link] I painted just a bit when I had a palette out for something else, and then let it sit for a while, drying completely, because I wanted just little streaks of paint of different colors right next to each other streaming out from the center. I just arbitrarily decided when each of these was done, either could have been done a bit sooner, as I was losing detail as well as creating it as I added more dabs. Finally, I just said 'done' because I want to publish pictures, and maybe start another few of these 'side projects' to have sitting around. It's handy to have something to do with excess paint when I'm done with a palette, I hate wasting. The walls and ceilings are good for that too. Those aren't quite as completed, it is quite a bit of furniture rearranging (for the walls) or neck craning (for the ceilings) to work on them. More than once I've thought of building a scaffold inside my room, or maybe bunk beds or something, just so I could lie down while I paint the ceiling, like Michaelangelo did. The name of this piece is a reference to H.P. Lovecraft's deity, 'Azathoth', which I spell differently for no particular reason, but which is otherwise the same.
