why thank you! i've done a bunch of these hands and have yet to get exactly what i want. idea based originally on some comment in an isaac asimov novel about how hands are really our most sensitive instrument of communication, not voice or eyes... something like that i forget which novel at the moment but i thought about it a long time, still thinking about it, and trying to get a composition that reflects that idea. hands are for most people the main thing by which we change the world, anyway.

I believe it was from the Foundation series, not sure which one, like maybe 'Foundation and Earth'? But it's best to read the whole series from the start if you haven't before. Quite good, and classic sci-fi. They're related to his robot novels like "I, Robot" but it's a different basic plot, and the robots only come in later in the series. I think I'm gonna start on another hands project or two maybe today or tomorrow.

this is beautiful. i love the very subtle shading of the hands.. the realism is nicely contrasted by the surreality of the blue and red tones. the background is phenomenal, i cant even begin to grasp how you did that.

i started with the hands, it's just a (not very accurate) outline of my hands. then added a few basic shapes, lightly pencilled. the stars, flower shapes, some circles, and curves, where they looked good relative to the hands. then i picked the colors i wanted to use and rotated through them adding to what was there in the background, but moving from one part of the image to another to let it all develop together. just did a little a day over a while...
mainly i did this to develop the background technique, it's something i did in another drawing and wanted to work on a little more.
