Description I love the old 1980s cartoon series MASK (Mobile Armored Strike Kommand). If you never heard of them they are a highly trained international special mission team that wage war against their polar opposites VENOM (the Vicious Evil Network of Mayhem), an international terrorist group dedicated to wealth and power by force. Both teams use illusion as their ultimate weapons in their goals and each team possess ordinary vehicles that can become high tech war machines.

If GI Joe and Transformers had a child, MASK would be it.

This is MASK agent Bruce Sato. Code Named: Magic. Bruce is the stoic second in command of the MASK team. A mechanical and engineering genius, Bruce is instrumental in maintaining MASK's equipment and technology and has improved upon the original designs made by the late Andrew Trakker. Bruce also invents new and better technologies for MASK and the Peaceful Nations Alliance to use in their efforts to maintain and promote world peace and unity.

The best friend and confidant of Matt Trakker for years, Bruce has remained by his side through thick and thin. Through the years Bruce has been like a second father to Matt's adopted son Scott whom he as taught many of his considerable engineering and robotics skills as well.

Bruce takes great pride in his Japanese heritage and has studied martial arts, Asian philosophy and culture for most of his life. He will often quote obscure ancient sayings which usually confuses everyone around him but Matt who usually understands their meaning immediately and more often than not helps him formulate a plan of action during missions.

In his civilian life Bruce owns and operates his own toy company that develops high tech toys and gadgets for children of all ages. Owner of many patents Bruce is independently wealthy and spends most of his time devoted to MASK and their various endeavors.

Bruce wears Lifter Mask, a helmet that produces antigravity energy which he can use to lift and manipulate objects of various sizes in a variety of offensive and defensive ways.

Lifter is voice and thought activated and the wearers mind can guide the antigravity energy to take basic geometric shapes like spheres and hoops and envelope anything the wearer decides to manipulate with it.

Lifter can manipulate multiple objects and make them into projectiles though the greater the weight and number of objects the less time it is able to manipulate and move them the quicker the mask drains of energy.

At full power Lifter mask has been shown to be strong enough to halt a crashing airplane and lower it safely to the ground though such a feet causes massive strain on the mask's inner workings as well as the wearer itself.

Lifter can also envelope the wearer in it's energy and allow them to float or fly for short or great distances. At it's maximum energy level Lifter can allow the wearer to fly at a top speed of 400 Mph but only for short burst of speed so it is often used at low speeds to prevent strain on the wearer and the antigravity energy itself can make the wearer light enough to drift and glide with air currents.

Bruce Sato wears a heavily padded and insulated uniform that allows him to withstand air friction and cold temperatures of high altitude flight. The helmet and uniform material can stop most bladed weapons as well as small arms fire.

Lifter mask attaches to the uniform and forms an airtight seal around the wearer and can store an hour of fresh air inside the helmet as well as cycle in and filter fresh air during flight if needed.

Bruce Sato is the pilot of Rhino. A Semi truck that converts into a mobile command center and defense platform. The strongest and most heavily armored vehicle, Rhino is the nerve center of any operation the team is on.

Rhino's sleeper cab is armed with a multi-purpose missile launcher that can fire a number of projectiles that range from lethal to non-lethal depending on what is needed. The airfoil on the cab is a high powered radar dish that is able to track multiple targets as well as send a jamming signal to throw off enemy radar and targeting systems.

The smokestacks on either side of the cab become high powered energy cannons that can be lowered and raised as needed to target enemy vehicles. The cannon blasts are powerful enough to punch through tank armor.

The front grill is actually a three inch thick chrome plated titanium battering ram that can extend in front of the vehicle and smash or pulverize most any obstacle that gets in the way of the vehicle. At top speed Rhino can ram through boulders, and reinforced three foot concrete walls.

The rear half of Rhino can detach and become a small, lightly armored ATV vehicle used for scouting, quick escapes or rapid defense of the main Rhino vehicle if it is unable to move. The ATV can travel at a top speed of 60 MPH for two hours before it needs refueling. The ATV is armed with twin front mounted 50. Cal heavy machine guns that use a use a linkless feed system for ammo. The ATV has a forward mounted camera and can be remote controlled from the main Rhino vehicle and sent on missions unmanned if necessary.

The tires on Rhino and it's ATV are both made of a highly durable puncture resistant rubber. Should a tire be punctured it can be filled with a quick dry sealant to maintain the tires integrity until it can be repaired or replaced.

I always loved Bruce.

That was from the "racing series" episode 05 - Race Against Time. The events and characters are so badly written and so far removed from the history of the previous continuity you have to consider them a separate alternate universe from the regular series. Sort of like how The New Adventures of He-Man is considered an alternate universe to the original Masters of the universe and the 2000 remake.

The American release of the M.A.S.K. series actually refused to include the 10 episodes of the racing series in the box set because they are considered non-canon and universally panned by fans of the series. As far as I know they've only been included in the UK and Australian box sets.

Regarding Brad Turner he also raced for charities so you have to look at him and Matt Trakker sort of like Paul Newman and Steve McQueen from back in the day. They were A list movie stars but both were passionate about the sport of auto racing and had their own cars and teams. McQueen made a fantastic movie based on his love of the sport called Le Mans. I highly recommend it if your into the sport.Β

But I do agree with you, Gloria should have had a proper race car in the series as well as in the toy line. She also should have had a proper Shark vehicle instead of the Split Second series Lamborgini Countache called Stiletto. Β

Thanks for telling me that. Β Also, motorcycles were Brad's specialty. Β Therefore, Bruce should have given him Bullet, the racing motorcycle/hovercraft, and designed Meteor, Ace Riker's stunt jet/mini-jet and tank, with a two-seat cockpit so that Ali Bombay could be Ace's co-pilot. Β In defense mode, Ace could have operated the mini-jet part of Meteor, and Ali could have operated the tank part. Β

No problem

Ali was a professional motorcycle racer and an international champion at the sport as a civilian so his vehicle makes sense. It's literally the sort of vehicle he would be seen on regularly so it would blend in with whatever mission he was on.Β

I agree with you Ace should have had a co-pilot for Slingshot and Meteor and due to their friendship I think Ali would have been a good choice but it's also cool to see Ali with his own vehicle which is really suited for him.Β

I appreciate your love for Brad but you have to consider Brad's vehicles of choice all have speed in common. So whether it's Condor or Razorback both are high-speed attack vehicles.Β

Also like Gloria and Matt, Brad is a race car driver. It's one of the things they have in common with one another.Β

It's really not a good argument that Brad is the motorcycle guy since Ali and Hondo both ride motorcycles. It would be silly to limit any of them to a single vehicle type since all of them are driving something that is essentially two different vehicles.Β

Like I said before with the racing episodes you can't really take most of what's in them as fact.Β

You're right, it's cool that Ali was a professional motorcycle racer and had his own MASK vehicle. Β I only meant that there was no point in Ace having vehicles that required and could accommodate only one person to operate in stealth mode, but needed at least two to function in defense mode. Β One more thing--when Bruce designed Gator for Dusty Hayes, why did he make the hydroplane come out of the jeep? Β Why didn't he make the entire jeep able to take to water in a manner similar to Bullet--by having the wheels flip down and become turbines to propel the vehicle across the water? Β The way Bruce designed Gator, if VENOM agents came along, they could have destroyed the main portion of the jeep while it was still on the shore and Dusty was operating the hydroplane at sea.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MJMJR In reply to blackmamba7mph [2017-02-18 16:07:03 +0000 UTC]

Bruce didn't design Gator. In fact none of the original vehicles were designed by Bruce at all. All the original vehicles of both MASK and VENOM were designed by Andy Trakker, Matt Trakker's youngest brother. Miles Mayhem killed Andy and stole half the plans for the weapons and vehicles he had designed when he betrayed the original MASK team led by Joseph Trakker, Matt's older brother and murdered them. The only person that survived this ambush was Matt Trakker.Β

Gator's jeep shell wouldn't be a threat to them once the hydroplane deployed from it so blowing it up would be pointless. Plus there's a chance the shell has an automatic defense system since the roll bar machine gun laser is still there and could automatically target threats to it.Β

Plus you have to consider if Dusty has deployed the hydroplane then the threat he's facing is no longer on land. On top of this he has the other team members keeping VENOM occupied so it would be a stupid risk on VENOM's part to even bother destroyed Gator's Jeep in the middle of battle when they have other MASK agents engaging them.Β

I honestly hated them. I think the only positive thing was the introduction of the new agents and vehicles but other than that they wrecked everything the series had built so far for no real reason other than to promote the Racing Series toys.Β

I mean honestly they could have done that in the confines of the things already established in the regular series. Matt was already written as a daredevil into extreme sports so it wouldn't be out of the question that he had his own racing team and modified the vehicles to be MASK ones. And VENOM could have had theirs as part of some scheme involving them finding treasure or taking an entire arena of race fans hostage or some such craziness.Β

They essentially took a cool G.I Joe like cartoon and turned it into a shitty knock off of Hanna Barbara's Wacky Races

MDTartist83 In reply to MJMJR [2016-09-13 02:10:56 +0000 UTC]

I agree totally. They pretty much sucked. And by the second season, it pretty much became a joke. I liked the episodes from the first season a lot better, because each episode had a detailed and in-depth plot. One of the episodes I remember most fondly is "Highway to Terror", where VENOM steals a truck carrying plutonium, which they use to power an Earthquake device to ravage cities. And admittedly this subplot with the plutonium reminded me of Back to the Future, which came out around the same time as MASK. Now that's what I call good storytelling.

MJMJR In reply to MDTartist83 [2016-09-13 04:17:27 +0000 UTC]

Exactly! all of the episodes from the first season played out on the scale of a James Bond movie where some small theft or crime would lead to some crazy plot for domination or extreme riches.

Like honestly had they not wrecked the continuity by jamming the racing concept up our asses some of the plots and subplots were actually really good and if it was the regular series they could have gone somewhere.

The hinted at crush Gloria had on Buddie, Boris being a double agent, Max Mayhem being more rational but possibly more of a con artist than his brother, the Mayhem's actually having a droid with AI in the Buzzard vehicle, Nevada and Matt being childhood friends, Ali Bombay and Lester Sludge battling over Ali's home town... take the stupid racing aspect out and make it an actual MASK episode and it would be awesome.Β

YouTube has everything. They even have insanely obscure cartoons from here like Turbo Teen on there.

The whole reason it didn't stay as popular as other 80s cartoons was because the writers completely boned the series in the third season. It went from two elite undercover groups battling each other for the fate of the free world to a bad rip off of Speed Racer and it was never explained why.

Also the comic book adaptions of the cartoon were just badly written here while the UK ones were well written and treated things seriously for the most part.

Ren and Stimpy was a classic. The original run of the cartoon was amazing before Nickelodeon fucked them up.

I think what happened was the toyline was making vehicles based on race cars and stuff like that and instead of incoporaing that into the storyline's in a natural way they just scrapped everything that came before in favor of pushing this line of toys on the cartoon and making them the main focus of everything which was silly.

This happened a lot with series and comic books that were forced by the toy company to incoporate the new toy lines into the series.

It's really why I respect Larry Hama who co-created the GI Joe toyline and wrote all the original comics. If the toy company stuck him with a lame characted in the comics he would kill them off after humilating them and in one instance he flat out refused to incoporate the Cobra-La characters that ruined the animated movie

Inspired-By-Boredom In reply to MJMJR [2011-01-07 01:57:14 +0000 UTC]

They really knew how to mae a fucked up yet addictive cartoon

There is no real reason why, the toylines should just stick with the initail character, making big changes like that makes it less relatable and look fake.

What!! But the toy company makes the ficking toys, if it wasn't for the comics themselves they wouldn't be in bussiness, that' so fucked up!

Cool, someone in his position shouldn't have to compromise those lazy bastards beucause the toymkaers can't be arsed making the changes.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MJMJR In reply to Inspired-By-Boredom [2011-01-07 16:47:30 +0000 UTC]

The original creator of the series did some more Ren and Stimpy cartoons but he did adult versions where there was nudity and the humor was way more adult. It only came out on DVD here though.

Yeah that's pretty much what happened. I understand when most toy series take main characters and do different versions of them but almost all remember to stick with the original concept that made them popular in the first place. MASK unfortunately didn't have people working on it smart enough to understand it needed to stay the same and there was nobody like Larry Hama there to fight against these idiots trying to ruin their own franchise.

It's usually like that though. The crative people always clash with the business people because the business ones always think they can do the creative ones jobs when clearly they don't have the skill or imagination to do it.

Yeah Larry was awesome. I only wish he could exert as much control over the new GI Joe comics series since they seem to keep taking queues from that abortion of a live action movie instead of keeping the characters the same.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Inspired-By-Boredom In reply to MJMJR [2011-01-12 00:11:29 +0000 UTC]

OOO I had no idea!! THAT SUCKS!! I must look for them on youtube!

A few different versions is fine, it's good for business, always making different ones is eventually going to piss people off. Didn't the actual creators of MASK do anything, unless they made the toys themselves, it's almost like selling out.

Tell me about it! only the creators know the work that gets put into every design. it's greedy, the business would rather do it themselves then pay the professionals.

Now that is one of the worst ideas, turing classics into the latest movie the GI Joe movie was terrible, it as cheesy, GI Joe isn't going to last much longer.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MJMJR In reply to Inspired-By-Boredom [2011-01-12 01:39:48 +0000 UTC]

hehe good luck finding the Ren and Stimpy cartoons

As far as I know Kenner pushed the cartoon series to show more of the new toyline in the show each season. But instead of doing it in a natural way the writers fucked up the third season by changing everything to put the new Racing Series toyline into the show. It was just how the cartoons in the 1980s were. If they were part of a toyline they would almost always incorporate the new toys into the shows as a way of getting kids whipped into a frenzy over them.

Yeah the Transformers comics did the same thing but at least most of the artists still draw them as their classic versions and not the goofy movie versions.

The GI Joe comics have a saving grace because Larry was brought back to write a continuation of the original series that Marvel started while the other Joe comics are sort of a different universe version based on the movie. So Larry is still writing the original series and it's become insanely popular from what I've seen. I buy it and the collections of the old comics and gave up on the new ones.

they are hard to find?? NOOOOOOO

That is too much change to get used to, it takes a while to adjust to the new character change but to do it every season. The writers sold out

Transformers wouldn't be the same, they are more human like in the cartoons, they would have to make them into generic looking 3D things which would piss everyone off.

There is still hope! Too many old companies are trying to be more modern for no reason, the traditional and classic stuff wont be the same.

Ren and Stimpy are all on DVD now uncensored. I just meant good luck collecting them since there are a few sets. You can probably find them on eBay.

Yeah like GI Joe and Transformers would just intorduice characters in the show and it would be no problem since nothing else was really changed. But M.A.S.K. went fucking nuts and scrapped the entire format to make it all about the racing series which introduced four new characters and the rest were all still the same people just in different vehicles and masks. It made absolutely no sense.

It would be like if all of a sudden they decided GI Joe and Cobra would do a Battle of the Bands each week and said fuck you to the whole Military Vs Terrorists concept

Yes there is always hope in comics. If something is unpopular and fans demand it stop and it usually will or at the very least be changed.

What the hell, the toy makers just decided to make racing cars! they toyline controlled what the writers did, that is seriuosly messed up. You would thin the toy company would be grateful for the writers enabling them to do so, but they just thought fuck the writers and took over.

I know what you mean, couldn't have explained that better myself

it's bad enough new films of old comics are geting crappy, atleast the fans are able to keep the comics the same.

I think you would have better luck hunting down the DVD sets on eBay.

Some of the characters have backgrounds in racing and it made sense for them to have vehicles like this but the one character who was known for being a race car driver in her spare time didn't even get a vehicle in that set and she only had a small cameo in the beginning of that season

M.A.S.K. seemed to have the same problems in the US comics as well. The whole point of them wearing masks was to keep the identities of the MASK agents secret from the VENOM ones and in the comics they almost always had their masks off and everyone knew who everyone was on each team. It was completely retarded.

So far the newer Marvel Comics films have been closer to the comics than they ever were. And I have to say I enjoy the reimagining of Batman on the new movies than I did on the old ones in the 1990s.

I have an ebay account but the sellers make the bid times ridiculous, even when the history is just one person being you they still wait for months, it's a pain in the ass at times but it's the best.

A few racing toys would have been fine for those ones but why the hell would they ignore the one character that still races

oh lol, what a fuck up. That just defeats the whole reason for the team and even worse the name M.A.S.K. That is really bad.

The Marvel ones have been good so far, but I didn't like Ironman much
Batman has to be DC's best character, Batmans evolution from those good bu oh so cheesy films up to now.

I usually buy outright instead of wasting time with the bidding. If you search enough you can usually find some with the Buy It Now option.

Yeah I know, It made no sense. Every episode that she was chosen by the computer in she was either at a Karate tournament, racing a car or being a driving instructor. Her entire life revolved around kicking ass and racing cars and they left her out of the racing series

It's the same point I make to people who try to defend them being maskless in the comics. Why wear a goddamn mask if it doesn't keep your identity secret? They are fighting terrorists, if they know the good guy's secret identities they can pick them off one by one. They even did an episode in the cartoon that dealt with that before they fucked it up.

I liked Iron Man since I felt they stayed true to the character and his origins. The new Batman's are great though from what I read the 3rd one will be the final one for Chris Nolan so who knows who will take them over after that.

Why do you hate power point?

Yeah it did. That whole season tanked the cartoon and ruined the franchise in america.

I still do not understand how someone can defend them being maskless in the books and the last season of the cartoon. They never have a good reason why this works in their heads they just seem to like it. It's mind boggling.

From what I have heard Catwoman and Bane will be the main villains in the next movie.

I'm happy about this because Bane needs to be redeemed to the public after the shit treatement Joel Schumacher gave the character. He made him into a retarded plant guy instead of Batman's rival on ever level, which is what he was in the comics. He did the one thing no other bad guy could ever do, he systematically beat Batman on every front and then broke his back in their last battle.

Yeah, they are on there there just a pain to find on some things.

They should have lost their jobs for that, or atleast been sued or something.

They must bored assholes who are new to the whole hero thing, no one of any knowledge would defend that ridiculous supposed masked heros rarely wearing them.

Catwoman the movie was a dissappointment, I just hope they try to keep her acting like a hero rather than some stupid flirt, Bane on the other hand I think will prove himself, the joker was pretty good so Bane should be kickass, at the time the writers went with the 'musle means stupidity' and made him into a fool, but it wont work this time.

I know, at the very least they should have beaten the asshole who changed the show's concept.

The Catwoman movie was horrible. They all counted on Halle Berry's tits and ass to carry the movie and fuck writing an actual plotline that makes sense.

To be fair Catwoman is a flirt and sexbomb in the comics but she uses that to distract people for the most part. They showed that part of her perfectly in the 1990s Batman Animated Series.

If they pull it off Bane will rival Joker provided they get the right person to play him. He's a pure nightmare to be up against and all the other villains Batman has gone up against are scared shitless of him. The only other guy who has that is Joker.

he's on the curb drinking his last sip from a wine bottle in a paper bag

They made Catwoman to be a tart basically, there wan't much in the way of promoting her as a hero, what a bunch of jackasses, I haven't met anyone who likes it.

Back then it was as you said a distraction and well she is supposed to be flirty anyway the fact that her persona is well a cat but this movie was just awful, too much sex appeal and nit enough hero.

This is why they MUST get it right, there is much to be expected, Bane is one son of a bitch and he is HUGE, as long as they don't make him stupid, it will be fine.
