Description
An ancient city built of books and candles.I imagine the inhabitants of this unmitigated fire hazard worship the distant grandfather clock as some sort of deity. It chimes the hours away for them, provided they offer it a sacrificial silverfish each and every day.

I suppose the answer to that would be, to only read a couple things at a time. But would you have to carry the book you were reading around with you all the time in case you forgot where you put it?

Maybe you can get, like... book caravans... where you travel around with your book/house. And then when you're done you exchange it...
