A poor mans version of the Gladiator Destroid. Still acceptable if properly used.

Yes from ROBOTECH. Also FASA used it under the name and designation ARC-2R AERCHER. It was used in the Technical Readout 3025. It is a 70 ton mech with 4 medium laser, 2 rear firing only, and 2 long range missile launcher with 20 missile per launch. Known as LRM 20. if you could check the original book, you will see them, all ROBOTECH mecha in black and white and line detail. Also included is the Calibur from the series DORVACK. It is a jeep that change into robot. Check YouTube to see some of it. Maybe you could finish the design. It must look great.

Cool design! I like the cockpit design especially.
I agree on the backward facing clip. Unless it's firing some kind of rocket grenades that are larger in front than behind, it makes no sense.
Could I make a suggestion? On the final, think of ammo carriers. How you carry extra ammo on projectile weapon carrying mecha somehow gets overlooked. That clip will only last you so long. You need more to stand up in battle.

yeah haha, i know i clip failed, as you can see the one he is actually holding doesn't have the clip, so idk. And do you mean like an amo feed system attached to the unit?

Wastelander7 In reply to ModalMechanica [2010-08-13 15:35:42 +0000 UTC]
Could be that. Like the belt feed mechanism on some full size machine guns that is flexible but allows the rounds to slide through it. That or else a lot of extra clips clamped onto the armor. If it's a projectile weapon and is full auto, you need LOTS of ammo to keep it fed. In a fullbore firefight the average soldier can go through 6 30rd magazines in less than 2 minutes.
For that reason in most of my mecha/armor designs that have hand held weapons I usually have a laser or plasma rifle on top, and a clip fed grenade/rocket launcher on the bottom. Cause unless the guy/gal is festooned with ammo, they'll run out sooner or later. In Viet Nam a lot of American soldiers got killed with empty guns in their hands because they ran out of ammo.
Go thou, and do not likewise.

Hmm yeah, I'll keep it in mind next time. I dont usually draw weapons on my mecha xD

I understand. I tend to go in the opposite direction and have built in weapons on my mecha. (I really like shoulder mounts for energy weapons and missiles. Projectiles I either like hand held or built into the forearms because you can handle a heavier recoil down close to the center of gravity better than at shoulder height.)
But, of course, that's just my preferences. Do as you see best and happy mech building!

Yeah, I either do a mecha with no weapons, or one, who's arms are basically weapons. But yeah I wil, and you too!

Wastelander7 In reply to ModalMechanica [2010-08-15 03:05:15 +0000 UTC]
I understand. Most of my armor designs have melee weapons, so a shoulder mount frees the arms to wreak havoc at close range while the shoulder mount takes care of long range threats.
About the only good reason I can see for having a hand held weapon on a mech is so you don't have to give your soldiers extra training. They can use their regular infantry training and tactics. The problem is that this would only be applicable if the machine was slaved to the pilot's body. If you're having to use joysticks, it seems to me you're better off with built in weapons.
I like shoulder mounts because because then you can slave the targeting system to the pilot's head or eye movements. Here's one of my armor designs, if you get time to look you'll see it's got shoulder mounted energy weapons and gauntlet weapons as well.
Have a good one!

Love the overall design, the only thing I don't like is the firearm. The backward clip concept feels kinda tacked on IMO...
