Beautiful art depicting an epic battle! I'm not Hindu but I greatly respect Vedic mythos and lore, and Indra is certainly one to be honoured.

In all honesty, I originally thought this was a picture of the archangel Michael, though as I see dragon-slaying is a very widespread topic in mythology. I also kind of like how Michael and Indra are similar in concept, both rule over the elements and have attributes of warriors and healers, not counting the fact that both are said to wield flaming, or lightning, spears and swords.
There is a theory that states that all deities from all religions are in fact different interpretations of the same entities (aliens?), or simply all humans share a common imagination.
also, is hinduism your native mithology?

Oh yes! I in fact wrote a piece on this very topic long back. I'll share the link to the same below.Β
And yes, Hindu mythology is native to me.

Why is Indra being neglected? Is it because of some schism within hinduism? Also, good job with all that mythology! You really are knowledgeable on the topic.

In fact, it was because of Vishnu that Indra was able to defeat Vritra, as detailed in the Srimad Bhagavatam
Vishnu told Indra how to fashion the Thunderbolt from the Bones of Dadhichi to be able to slay Vritra

I am not a Vaishnavite and I don't consider Vishnu as supreme personality of godhead , I don't consider him superior to Indra or Shiva or any of the gods for that matter etc.

For those who(like me) were thinking of 'who is this dragon like creature'. Β It is VritraΒ ΰ€΅ΰ₯ΰ€€ΰ₯ΰ€° "the enveloper"
Acc. to Britannica Encyclopedia :
Indra, in Hindu mythology, the king of the gods. He is one of the main gods of the Rigveda and is the Indo-European cousin of the German Wotan, Norse Odin, Greek Zeus, and Roman Jupiter.Β
In early religious texts, Indra plays a variety of roles. As king, he leads cattle raids against the dasas, or dasyus, native inhabitants of the lands over which his people range. He brings rain as god of the thunderbolt, and he is the great warrior who conquers the anti-gods (asuras). He also defeats innumerable human and superhuman enemies, most famously the dragon Vritra, a leader of the dasas and a demon of drought. Vritra is accused as a dragon of hoarding the waters and the rains, as a dasa of stealing cows, and as an anti-god of hiding the Sun. Indra is strengthened for those feats by drinks of the elixir of immortality, the soma, which priests offer to him in the sacrifice. Among his allies are the Rudras (or Maruts), who ride the clouds and direct storms. Indra is sometimes referred to as βthe thousand-eyed.β

To be honest since he's the antithesis of water, I always pictured Vritra as being fat and slug-like.

For some reason... the facial hair on his face reminds me of a monkey, like Sun WuKong or Goku (not DBZ ... Japanese mythology one, which I beleive originated from China)
Lots of energy in this art. It thrums with power.

You took the action from one of the oldest, most widely disseminated myths and breathed new life into it in such a crisp, wicked new way. Kudos, young man.

Its unique on how each cultural mythology has almost the same tale about a thunder god battling a serpent. Thor fighting Jormungandr, Zeus fighting Typhon and Indra fighting Vitra.
