Description
When: October 21, 2018
Where: Zie-ZOO Volkel, The Netherlands
When a mother Kangaroo or Wallaby stands up, the joey gets a chance to climb (half) out and cautiously explore the world. This joey, while having an alert mother, got a chance to grasp some crispy leaves. I especially like how his ear is pushed down a bit, giving him an adorable look
Species: Dusky Pademelon or Wallaby (De Bruijnpademelon)
Latin name: Thylogale Brunii
Originates from the Papua province of Indonesia and Papua-New Guinea.
Current status: Vulnerable
Did you know:
…The Dusky Pademelon was named after a Dutch painter, Cornelis de Bruijn, who first described it in the second volume of his “Travels” in 1711. There, he labeled his description with a name then current: Philander. A later common name for the Dusky Pademelon is Aru Island Wallaby.
