The soft grey washes used on the water and along the horizon help to provide depth to this scenery. Β Meanwhile, the absence of colors and the vast stretch of negative space provide dream-like quality.

www.asia-art.net/chinese_brush...

the above net will give you a rough idea of the chinese ink painting method. it's quite different from the western watercolor.

In regards to the December 2012 critique competition:

Moyan, I initially started following you when I saw your digital painting, "I Can Fly!". Though I enjoyed the light embracing feel of that painting, I became more in awe of your traditional chinese style artwork, specifically pieces like this one above.

Your ability to capture the small details one would only notice when looking closely can only be topped by your truly incredible talent in making the painting look simple. The best part (in my opinion) of this style of artwork is finding that simplicity and adding the hidden details, which you have done quite nicely.

If there was anything to say at all about this painting as far as improvements go, I have to say there really is not much that would really improve your skill that I can recommend, although I did notice that the reference picture was incredibly similar to your painting (as it should be). My only critique is that, in order to improve upon yourself, instead of just taking the reference photo and making a similar picture, maybe add or take away something to make it yours. For instance if you had taken this photo and made a painting on just the closest boat and the bushes while keeping your incredible style, I think you might find it very beneficial to your art. Or maybe it is something simpler like adding a bit of color to the trees or water.

Anyways, I am sure this is over 70 words -.- but I was really inspired to do this. All in all I really enjoy seeing your artwork in my inbox, and all of your artwork is really incredible! Thank you for being on dA!

Hello! I really, really like this picture, and it would be awesome if I could use it in one of my interior scene renderings! I currently work on a school project in interior design. Image would be rendered inside the scene in 3d. I will upload the first test render for you to see if I can get your approval

The black, white and grey contrast makes this drawing super beautiful. It gets your eyes and heart attention immediately. It tracks you right into the environment of the wonderful area. A lake with a boat, trees at the side and in the far back, I see a house and two swans.
You can use your own imagination, where this is. It's super wonderful.

Love it. great job.
