chinese ink painting, kisshou watercolor on minou washi.inspired by the poem Tian Jing Sha, A Thought of Autumn by ma zhi yuan, a chinese poet during yuan dynasty.
枯藤老树昏鸦
小桥流水人家
古道西风瘦马
夕阳西下
断肠人在天涯
天净沙、 秋思
诗 马致远
画 默言
壬辰十月廿八
withered cane on the old tree with raven,
a small bridge over running stream by a house,
ancient path with west wind and a skinny horse;
the evening sun sets in the west,
a despondent soul at the end of the world.

The overall image is beautiful, excellent use of Chinese brush work. The wanderer and the horse are eye catching and bring the eye to the foreground, but the house is still easily visible. The subtle use of colour in the sky is also pleasing to the eye.
The only area I feel could be changed would be the characters at the bottom, they look a little cluttered and make the painting look slightly cramped. The stamp at the bottom also looks over shadowed by the characters. Perhaps having them on the right side instead of the tree would work better?
The use of blank space that is commonly seen in water and ink paintings is very well done and helps draw the eye to the darkened highlights of the painting.
Overall, beautiful work, eye catching and reminds me fondly of home after being away for some time. Wonderful work of shades of black and grey, and colour that give the piece a memorable look.

"for comment/critique contest, december 2012" This artwork is simply beautiful , its simplicity and its impact shocked me. It is amazing.
That being said let me start with the vision. Its simplicit yet compact details show just how elegant such artwork of this leuge can be. I love how the colours blend together and form a sort of union to create the vibrant detail you have portrayed in this peice of art.
Next shall be the Originality i find that this picture tells a story , in this case in the form of a poem. The man with his horse and the crow/raven cawing , it is all very unique and seems to have a deeper meaning to it.
The technique and impact can be put together for i think this peice is both technical very detailed and its impact for that reason is much greater. Good job and keep up the good work! ^-^

this is a very famous Chinese poem, and there's a long tradition of Chinese artists illustrating for famous poems, so it's not original. The wanderer, the horse and the crow are conventional tropes in Chinese poetry, so it's not unique. That said it's a wonderful picture still.

the fate of a wondered... haha.. I've reached your drawing.. I like the poem.. quite a lot even...
..now I look at the picture.. a very friendly one.. I don't feel a feeling of despair and of wretchedness.. it is more like coming home/being tired maybe? .. there is the crow and there are some shadows .. but it all feels safe..

I had this picture as my computer desktop background, my Mum saw and she absolutely loved it. She was entranced by the simplicity of the lines, the open spaces and the subtle colours, she also loved how you captured the essence of the horse. Keep up these beautiful works
