Man, time sure has a way of speeding past. I painted this WAY back in 1986, for one of my first college art classes. The assignment was to pick one of our favorite artist's work and try to imitate it. I couldn't resist the challenge of trying to duplicate the amazing work of Iron Maiden's resident artist Derek Riggs.I used to be really fond of working with concentrated watercolors, so that is what I used on this one. I can remember being really happy with the way this turned out, and even today I am pleased with this piece of fan art.
I have heard that there is a book coming out soon featuring all of Derek's awesome Iron Maiden artwork- should be amazing!

Without comparing em side by side, I would've thought this was Riggs' too.
After 20+ years, Eddie looks just as monstrous as ever.

I hear ya- I love the classic maiden, but haven't been crazy about the newer stuff. I got the chance to meet them after a show here in Salt Lake City many years ago, but it was when they had Blaze Bailey as their vocalist... Still cool though. Yep, Riggs influenced many horror artists for sure! Thanks for the comment my friend!!

I'm curious have you done anything with clowns? id love to see your artistic vision of them.

Outside of all the clowns I painted when working as a makeup artist for Rocky Point Haunted House, I once drew up a couple of evil clowns for a rock band called "Clown Slugger"... I would have to do some digging to see if I can find that artwork, been a few years!

It's not to bad considering how old it is- it has some glaring and obvious problems if you put it side by side with Derek Rigg's painting, but it was fun to do, and I am glad you like it!

Yeah, wow- 18 or 19. It has some glaring problems when you put it next to Rigg's actual piece, but it's still pretty cool I think. I did another one a couple years later that I will have to scan and post here. I really love(d) working with watercolors, and need to do more, acrylics too. I have been doing so much digital the traditional is suffering!!

Wow, thank you- I have always loved trying to duplicate other peoples works, and Derek was always a big hero of mine back in those days (well, he still is!) This one was a blast to paint... Need to do more watercolors soon!!
