Love this stamp and I'm gonna be honest: A Sonic character, Nack, actually made me like weasels more, well at least most Disney weasels.

Thank you C:
Sonic never was such a big thing here in Germany.
I remember that there was a Sonic cartoon somewhere around 2002 or something but it only had one single episode with a weasel in it and I don´t remember of the name or the look of the character.
I was into weasels around that time already anyways.
The thing which basically brought me to weasels was the series Animals of farthing wood.

That makes sense. Oh and if you're referring to Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, then the name of that character, the one dressed as a salesman, is named Wes Weasely.

I think the series was called Sonic Underground or something. I don´t remember what he was wearing but I remember that the protagonists reviewed him as a rather untrustworthy character who picks sides to his on profit or something like that. The typical thing you often see on weasel characters. Or what humans imply to see in them.

I think you may be mistaking either Sleet or Dingo as weasels. Sleet's actually a wolf and Dingo's well...a dingo.

I don´t know, since everything was translated in german, they maybe decided to make a weasel out of one character, who knows.

Oh gosh yes, I saw a least weasel at our train station. We had a lot of rats there before they rebuilt it and I saw a weasel there just for a very short moment. Never saw a wild one before.
They are so fast I can tell. You really have luck seeing one.

no they are not in fact they are in the Caniformia group.
like bears and dogs yet people still think they are related to rodents due to the ear shape. and of course there
are people that would say things like wolves and foxes are felines due to having pointy ears and with foxes thier slit eyes with that logic that would mean that vipers, pandas. and crocodiles would be felines due to their eyes. I find it ironic that wolfhavenspiritofthepast thinks wolves are felines. If anything hyenas are more related to fricken cats. as with the weasel family I think that they are interesting to look at. what's weird is that ferrets are illegal in some states like California yet they overshadow the problem with feral cats and dogs. and then of course there is rudy giuliani who decided to ban ferrets in new york city due to him thinking it would be like legalizing tigers in new york city.

But here in Germany we have some idiots who also think weasels or ferrets are rodents. That is so silly.

People always were that way, not only these days. Once they hated wolves that much that they went extinct nearly everywhere in europe and now they are overly protected.

skulls887 In reply to MrWolf86 [2014-04-12 23:00:09 +0000 UTC]
it is true that wolves were almost extinct at one point which explains why some European countries do not have wolves.
but now since they are overly protected by peta members and wolfaboos they will make an protest about wolf killing.
one example of a fairly recent one is the movie the gray. and some species of the weasel family are actually endangered yet no one
is as over protective and the same can be with the chinchilla.

Yes very true. The wolf has a special status to people for whatever reasons. They European wolverine also in endangered and the thyra, a south american pinemarten too and the black foot polecat also is very much endangered but none cares because they are all not that mayestic and like the wolf or eagles and so on.

heck this might sound insane but even the golden hamster is endangered while the Turkish hamster is near threatened same with the Romain hamster.
and the key largo wood-rat also endangered also does not get as much attention at all either. I just wished that other endangered animals like the black footed ferret would get the attention it needs.

MrWolf86 In reply to skulls887 [2014-04-13 22:17:09 +0000 UTC]
Yes, I guess it is because people don´t know that much about some species yet. There is nearly everything known about wolves and they are big animals.
The rats and other small animals are often seen as pest, no matter if endangered or not and because none liked them in the first place, none cares that much about them. Only those people know are interested into animals and maybe want to become zoologists or something know because it is their business. Normal people don´t know and don´t want to know because it is boring to them like math is boring to me since I never will understand it. Sadly more people are good at math than understanding how nature works.

I also think that math is boring too.
and then of course they also get more stereotypes too most people
usually would shout out gross if you have a rodent as a pet while cats
are over glorified.

MrWolf86 In reply to skulls887 [2014-04-14 09:02:00 +0000 UTC]
Here rodents are a taken alternative for a cat or dog for people who don´t have so much money or not the time to care about the animal all day. Many animals have a bad behaviour because they are either not cared properly and don´t have a 'job' and are bored.
Rodents are quite cheap here, like when you buy a guinea pig, a rat or a rabbit for just 20 - 40$ you have to pay 200 - 1000$ for a dog or cat. And those which are in the low segment are often overbred, have issues or are from puppymills.

MrWolf86 In reply to skulls887 [2014-04-14 21:31:34 +0000 UTC]
Small animals also can get a bad behavior, only they are small doesn´t mean you put them in a cage, put food into their cage and feed them with feed so they are stuffed (which is not even their natural diet) makes it good for them.
That is the problem. The big lobbies of breeders and pet shops taught us to buy all that stuff, but I today know it better (have guinea pigs since I was 10) and know these animals need your time too.
They eat a lot of fresh veggies and hey and must be fed nearly every second hour and need a large cage or at least a part of the room to run free there every day. Because they poop all the time, you need time to clean the places every day. They are really no animals people think they are. Pretty easy to keep, once a week to cuddle and once a day to feed. No it is not that easy.

most stuff made for them are actually dangerous
example steel hamster wheels. which I never buy
one day I plan on making a cage that is like their natural habitat.
some do need more time with their owners like the sugar glider
in which you would need a bounding pouch.

Exotic animals are rather rare here and need even more care.
The guinea pig and rabbit or even hamster is known to be an easy to care pet, but is not a children's toy.
Many people don´t seem to be aware about that.
Do you know the movie Dr. Dolittle? That guineapig was in that very small cage and actually there is another movie, Bedtime Stories where a guinea pig sits in a cage of the same size and they think they are really to keep this way?
Man they should at least show how the animals should be kept in real life.
I know that about the hamster wheels. The small versions are not good for them either, they make the mice and hamsters a bent back and is not good for them. Better buy one of the big ones.

Yes that is the problem. Especially when TV shows the kids how to and they say 'Mommy I want a pet like this one' and the parents buy one and are angry when the animal survives maybe for one week and is dead then.

indeed it is a huge problem especially when kids end up thinking
mom I want a pet that was just the movie or tv show. yet when they finally
get their dream pet they never realize the amount of responsibility that is required to own a pet
in fact I have heard from a rabbit magazine
that most people would think that rabbits eat nothing but carrots
but in reality it is actually bad for their health.

MrWolf86 In reply to skulls887 [2014-04-15 19:52:41 +0000 UTC]
Yeah very true.
I didn´t know that carrots are bad for the health of a rabbit. But too much of something always can´t be good, not for us and guess for a rabbit either.
As far as I know like guinea pigs rabbits too also mostly eat grass or fried grass.
Other things like carrots and other vegetables and some fruits can be reached every day and should not be too much and every day something different not JUST carrots or just zucchini or peppers and so on.
We also don´t eat JUST pork, or just potatoes. It would make us sick too.
It is sad how less people know about the animals they like or which is worse want to own as a pet.

exactly
same with fast food. I saw a documentary about a person that would eat fast food every single day.
I know right people should research about the pet that the would desire to own before they even think of having it.
and that is also the same with cars too.
