They're planning a remake of "Poltergiest" next. Do we really need remakes of classic horror films? Imagine in ten years time they remake "Home Alone", why can't Hollywood come up with something original?

because they just can't stand at being original.they always find good classic movies and remade them so terribly awful that you want to knock your head to a blackboard.

The 1939 version of Wizard of Oz is a remake.

Technically, all Wizard of Oz media derives from a book, since the book was the original. Although there aren't many recent ones that directly follow the book due to the influence of MGM's film. (In the book, Oz is definitely real, the slippers are silver, not red, and Glinda is the Good Witch of the South - the Good Witch of the North is a different character.)

Agreed... but there are a few good remakes...
what I really hate is the Pink Panther movie.. it doesn't have the pink cat in it, nor is it animated... rly?

The shittyness of things like Charlie & The Chocolate Factory and The Last Airbender only make me appreciate the originals more.
Goddamn, are we nerds so insecure about this shit.

god! the last airbander was so awful it made me want to make a hole in my brain.
charlie and the chocolate factory ruined one of my favorites books of all time.when it first aired the original 71's movie i liked it even though it wasn't too faithful to the book, but when tim burton's adaptation of the book came out i wanted to scream.yeah, some of the quotes really are in the book, but the characters are totally ruined.charlie an his family were too undeveloped, the bratty kids were terrible actors, the song were annoying and they hired only one person to play all the oompa loompas.this is laziness! also, when willy wonka made his apparition i almost wanted to struggle myself.i have no idea what the hell was johnny depp trying to do in there.not to mention, that wonka's voice was so annoyingly high-pitched that made jar jar binks's and whitey duvall's voices to sound appealing.

Again, how is something ruined if the original is still there?

no! just no! we already have a lot of great movies being transformed in crappy remakes.the 2014's robocop remake was so shitty.not to mention how many crappy remakes have been made in the last 10 years.the only reason because they're doing this it's because they lacked of creativity and need more ways to make money.
my top 10 worst remakes includes : psycho, clash of titans, the pink panther,mr deeds, planet of the apes, total recall, charlie and the chocolate factory, karate kid, godzilla and the woman.

The new Charlie was way too goody-goody. :/ At least the other one had a more realistic personality, like at times he would get mad or even a little greedy. :/
I'm not even going to comment on Johnny Depp's part, you know how that went.

Particularly horror movies. Hollywood needs to leave them alone dammit 8|
I'm still irritated that they remade NoeS, and now they're going after Child's Play.

Are you serious? D:
Jesus buttfucking Christ, I swear they're screwing up on purpose. D: So many horribly done remakes in such a short time. :c
The NoeS remake was awful. I was open to the idea, because I just wanted to see how they'd make Freddy look. But he reminded me of a lizard. :/ It made me miss Robert Englund. xD

Poor Robert's been reduced to B-horror status xD
He was the lead in 2001 Maniacs. That movie...well, it wasn't terrible but it wasn't all that good either lol
Yeah, there's some other remakes planned too that I wtf'd at (ANOTHER remake of Halloween? LET THE FRANCHISE DIE ALREADY, GOOD GOD).
I swear if they even so much as think of touching Reanimator I'm gathering an angry mob and rioting in the streets.

I heard they weren't remaking Re-animator, they were making another film for the series. :/ Either way, I'm sure it won't be nearly as good as the others. xD Jeffery Combs was fantastic, the least they could do is have him play as Herbert West. C:
They're also making a prequel to John Carpenter's The Thing, which bothers me a fuckton. :U

D8 WHY?!
THEY'RE NOT ALLOWED TO TOUCH THE THING EITHER >8C
And do you mean that one with the President-zombie? Cause they stopped that one (thank goodness).
And omg ever since I first saw Reanimator I've been seeing Jeffery Combs EVERYWHERE. He was the evil doctor guy in the remake of House on Haunted Hill, and he was in an episode of CSI.

I don't see how they ruin them when some remakes came out better than the old ones (well a few amounts). Hell even some of those 'classics' were shit (My Bloody Valentine, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, Prom Night)

This wasn't meant to apply to ALL movies and remakes. xD I've actually seen a few remakes I preferred over the original film. But lately, a lot of old movies have been remade horribly, particularly in the horror genre. :/ Like Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Psycho.

Haven't seen the remake of Halloween & I don't plan to. Not until I see the original. Oh God, do not speak of the 'remake' of A Nightmare on Elm street, no way, there are practically no words to how horrible that film is. And, the Psycho remake sounds like a fucking joke already, even though I haven't seen the original.

I can say that Vince Vaughn did do a good job at being a creeper in the Psycho remake.
And Viggo Mortensen was naked.
That was about all it had going for it.

One remake I actually enjoy a lot is John Carpenter's The Thing. c: But this was in 1982, before CGI shat itself on special effects.
